12.37pm: So, Stuart Pearce will manage England. Would anyone like to cast their minds back to last summer, when he took a highly-fancied English team to the European Championships ... and failed to win a game. Sturridge, Welbeck, Jones, Smalling, Walker - they were all there but England went home after the first round.
"...British people are highly indebted and obliged to Sikhs for a long time. I know that within this century we needed their help twice and they did help us very well. As a result of their timely help, we are today able to live with honour, dignity, and independence. In the war, they fought and died for us, wearing the turbans" Winston Churchill

Why is it funny? He's only the caretaker for one game and it was always going to be him.

For now, only for the first friendly. I think he'll probably take charge of the 2nd one also, maybe with Brooking by his side to hold his hand, but then move over for Redknapp, just in time for the last one, and then the Euros... There's a thought that Redknapp may have an eye over the squad selection, tactics while Pearce takes charge, and then can walk straight in, when he leaves Spurs at the end of the season.

Niether is Redknapp ;).

Short term its really the only logical choice. Worked with the squad alongslide Capello. He's passionate about team England and has a coaching system in place.

Personally I think they should let him take charge for the Euro's then find a long term guy to take his place while he coaches the olympic team.

If you were to bring in Redknapp in time for the Euro's then you need time to get a system together and a style that works for him.

The U21 manager+the assistant taking over for friendly. Don't see anything wrong with that. Makes sense, got international expirence (and has been quite successful at it) and knows the squad. Hope the U21's don't have a game the day earlier though.

So what was he unlucky not to get when he got to the final the camapign before?

You'd imagine that the FA would be looking to appoint a new manager before this fixture no? OK, I guess not. Jesus fucking wept what a shambles.

So they should, what? Find another caretaker with the goal of taking over for the finals in less then a month? I doubt your suggesting rushing the permanent appointment.

I am fucking praying that England absolutely ANNIHILATE Holland and he gets the job full time.

Now that would be a nightmare scenario.

WHEN STUART PEARCE HAD TO SAY SORRY

THE FA were asked to defend Stuart Pearce’s appointment yesterday after it was pointed out the new caretaker manager has had to apologise in the past for an alleged racist incident of his own.

PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor had to intervene after it was claimed Pearce made a racist jibe at England team- mate Paul Ince during a match between Nottingham Forest and Manchester United in December 1994. “I
have spoken to Stuart and he will be ringing Paul to apologise,” Taylor said at the time. “Stuart regrets what he said. It was said in the heat of the moment. He is sorry and I am sure Paul will accept the apology in the manner in which it is intended.”

Despite the fact Pearce’s appointment leads directly from the allegations of racism against John Terry, Club England managing director Adrian Bevington refused to be drawn on Pearce’s past. “We’re not going to go back over extensive grounds today in that respect,” he said. “I certainly can’t talk about the comment you’re raising.”

Pearce’s brother Dennis is an active member of the British National Party and stood for them as a candidate in the 2009 European elections.

However, Bevington was able to take a position on this issue. “Stuart has made it clear that he is not involved in his brother’s political beliefs,” he said.

“I don’t think we can get to the realms of being judgmental on someone because of what their brother or any sibling’s views may be.”

Indeed, Pearce said in 2008: “My brother’s views are his own and do not in any way reflect mine.”

Gordon Taylor's double standards are phenomenal. In practically every case where he's criticised LFC or one of our players, you can look back in history and find him adopt the complete opposite stance when it's someone else. What a fucking, cunting, manc bastard.  :no

Unbelievable that they allowed this fella to take charge of the English national team, temporary or otherwise.

Aside from the fact that he's an absolutely shite manager he has previous for  a racial exchange, which according to Paul Hayward is OK because it was 18 years ago and he said sorry, the sorry state of the FA's media handling of all this is throughly depressing.
