What's this about Bellamy? Don't you need 10 yellow cards to be suspended after new year?

Or is it five? Or seven?

If only they'd be clear because ten is just a figure of speech.

Given Bale, we need Kuyt +1 on the right, probably Kelly, although Kuyt plus Johnson is a good partnership

We also need to press in the middle, to keep Modric from having time. So I'm not looking at Adam

We have enough rest time before and after this game to assume all are fit

Front 3 is then the challenge. If Kuyt is one, then it's perm 2 from: Carroll, Suarez, Bellamy, Downing. Spurs aren't great down the flanks, so Downing isn't a bad shout, with Carroll in the middle. But no Suarez? No Bellamy? Hard to call, but here goes

Reina
Johnson/Kelly Skirts Agger Enrique
      Spearing
                                 Gerrard
Hendo

Kuyt                              Suarez
           Carroll

Apparently Walker & VDV are injured.. good news if true.

Tough test.  Spurs have been a bit of a thorn in our side.  Hope Suarez starts - he's not been injured and has been training with the team, so no need to take it slow.

Also, I really like Kelly, but think Johnson is more suited to this.

Agree with eventhough last year we had Spearo & Lucas in the midfield.Modric & Co.totally controlled it.So kk must have some thinking to do.

Totally agree with this. Let's get at them.

Suarez (2) and Bellamy to score. We win 3-2 in a cracker.

Suarez has to start. He's the best player in the league.

I would just like to make a quick point. All of the formations that people are putting up all seem to have Carroll at the head of either a three pronged attack or the main striker with 3 behind him. If, as suggested, bellamy and suarez are in this team surely are we not just falling into old routines with Carroll and not actually playing to his strengths.

In those systems we will have very little natural width given that Johnson and Enrique are going to have their hands full with Bale and Lennon/Van der Vaart. It just seems that once again we will be expecting Carroll to do a job that he is not really suited for and not getting the ball into the box that he requires and should get.

It's not inconceivable that we'll go 3 at the back, as we did against Chelsea when Torres played the lone striker. Adebayor plays a similar kind of role, and Bale is much more effective cutting in from the left. Plus we'll need a compact central midfield to combat Modric, who has run the show in our last two meetings at least. I wouldn't be surprised if we went 3-5-2 or 3-5-1-1 with wing-backs. Alternatively it might be 4-5-1 with Dirk on the right to pin Bale back. If they lose Assou-Ekotto (who is often average, but always seems to play well against us), that may imply more defensive responsibility for Bale - and it may mean switching Kaboul to LB which might expose their CBs where they have, or appear to have, injury problems. That's an opportunity.

No problem if he does, but I'd rather play Bellamy, Carroll and Suarez up front. Bellamy is our most inform forward, Suarez our best, and Carroll is improving lately. I think he'd benefit more than the rest from another start, but any front 3 with Suarez and Bellamy plus any one out of Downing, Carroll, Kuyt and Maxi sounds pretty decent.

The striker situation is a proper Dilemma. We have Carroll playing himself into form, and Bellamy on fire from the left, and Kuyt chipping in with a couple of goals. For Tottenham I think we need Kuyt on the field and Bellamy to expose Walker. I would hate Carroll to be dropped so maybe we could play something like:

                Reina
Johnson Agger Skrtel Jose
          Speo   Adam
Kuyt         Suarez     Bellamy
                Carroll

Let Kuyt tuck in to a 3 man midfield when we don't have the ball. I think we will probably see a similar 11 starting as last night with Downing in for Bellamy though (and possibly Gerrard for Adam if fit), and Suarez to come off the bench.

Suarez won't start. He'll be used as a sub. Andy'll batter them, then on comes Luis to scare the shit out of some tired legs.

Agree with whoever said Modric has been key in this fixture recently. Jay needs to get right on his case from the off.

And now the question is, will Kenny drop Carroll for Suarez even though he's in good form.. ?

Got a feeling he will play them both, Carroll dropping deep. Didnt really like that though  :( would rather Carroll play on the last man and give Suarez a free role.

MEH, im just glad to have Suarez back  ;D

Think Suarez will start from the bench. His match fitness must have drained during the lay off. Carroll deserves to keep his place.

Suarez will start. The way he plays and the way he is built, he's that kind of player who returns to fitness very quickly (unlike Carroll, who needs a run of games to start firing on all cylinders). Also, why not start him to give him even more match fitness for the following game?

We had Lucas and Spearing in there last season and he still bossed us. I think it's because he plays deeper than the likes of Silva so it's harder for Jay/Lucas to nullify him from their positions. Hopefully Gerrard's in for Adam, because I think Charlie could cost us with his lack of defensive ability.

I reckon I'd go as far as placing some money on it that he won't start. With Andy and Bellamy in decent form going into this one, and Suarez not match fit after the lay off, he'll be more effective from the bench. Plus, regardless of the score, the lift Luis coming on later in the game will give Anfield is alone a reason to have him on the bench. The place will go fucking spare when he comes on.

Keys for us (my point of view)
1. We need the speed of Johnson to minimize the impact of Bale
2. We need a 3 man midfield to stop Modric/VDV/Parker playing around us like the last time
3. Carroll needs to start, kills all the confidence he's gained by putting him on the bench
4. A fit Suarez always starts for me

                  Reina
Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
        Spearing   Henderson
                Gerrard
   Kuyt                     Suarez
                  Carroll

Bellamy's red hot at the moment but his knee has gone through a lot of football of late and I reckon he could be really dangerous as an impact sub on to the left wing. Let Suarez work over their make shift right back (Walker apparently injured) and then let Bellamy come on and do a number on him.

If Walker (Groin) and Adebayor (Hamstring) don't play that's a massive blow for them. Adebayor's hold up play brings Modric, VDV & Bale into the match and without him hopefully they are less dangerous. I have full confidence in Enrique bullying Lennon.

Fuck I hope we twat them 3-0

Have to agree with others. I don't see Suarez starting this one. Reckon he'll come on around the 60 minute mark or so to terrorize defences for the last 30.
You can't really drop Bellamy after his form, nor Carroll for that matter. If there's a way to effectively play them all then maybe eh?

I don't see why Carroll and Suarez can't both start.

--------------------------------Pepe----------------------------------

Johnson-----------Skrtel---------------Agger------------Enrique

-------------------------------Spearing------------------------------

-----------------Gerrard----------------Henderson----------------

-------Bellamy--------------------------------------Suarez---------

-------------------------------Carroll---------------------------------

Would love to see that anyway, Andy has been very good the last two games and I think it'd be unfair to drop him, at the same time Bellamy has been class aswell and Suarez will be raring to go so get those two either side of them. Get Spearing to try do a job on Modric, will be difficult but Jay is a very underated player. Bale will be very tough to deal with aswell, we've just got to be at our best. 3 points please.
