Bloody tired of prices in this country
« on: January 18, 2012, 01:09:32 PM »
Just walking around town on lunch and i've noticed, again, prices have gone up. Sometimes between 10-40p depending on which shop you go in for lunch.

And its starting to brass me off. And the thing is, im in a good job and so is the wife, and yet we are starting to slowly feel the pinch so for lower income families i cant imagine how tough it is. The cost of living in this country is starting to strain - petrol, food, services, its giving us all an ulcer. Cant see anyway out of it but it makes my blood boil.

And yes, prices going up is horrible right now. I didn't do jack all to cause this bloody recession and the shit is rolling downhill as always. Joy! :)

Can understand this. It's more of an encouragement to buy re-usable bags to make an effort to cut carbon emissions.

Re-prices, what do you expect? With the tories in charge and the economic situation, it's penny counting time.

That's not really 'for' the bag, that is to force you internalize the externalities inherent to its production.

Think yourself lucky you've been able to buy your lunch from retail outlets for so long. I've been taking 'carrying out' for as long as I can remember, anyone who pays 2 or 3 quid for a sarnie is fucking mental imo.

Going down from 5% (or whatever it was) to 4.2% is still rising, last I checked.

Its a bolllocks.

I've resorted to strategically planning my grocery shopping to get more value.

I've seen our fornightly big shop rise from between 90-100 quid to 140-150 quid in the space 18 months. Its crazy.

i blame some public sector workers for inflation, in particular those working for TFL. most of us have been surviving on 1 or 2% pay rises over a 4/5 year period, these tossers have the gall to ask for 5% a year.

I agree mate, they're taking the piss as they are already paid handsomely for what is a pretty standard job.

It's mental how much things are now, food/drink especially. You'll be lucky if you can get 3 pints for a tenner round my place now.

Had a date last week & it cost me just under 20 quid for 4 glasses of wine.

£1.90? I think it's like £2.40 round here but it's been a while. Probably over a tenner by now.

Nobody is saying that. They're saying that inflation is at its highest rates for years (topped 5% not that long ago). VAT's gone up, fuel's going up, utilities are going up... nobody anywhere is talking about 'deflation'.

Dropped in the newsagents the other day, 49p for a pack of polos. I am still stunned, threw a tantrum in the middle of the shop. The charging for plastic bags annoys me as well. If they are that arsed they should switch to paper bags.

A big part of my diet now: Canned food (I just have these as a full meal)

Chickpea Dahl - 77p
Chicken Jalfrezi - £1.38
Chicken in white sauce - £1.48 (I have with brocolli)

I may got out once a week - but normally 2/3 times a month.
Hardly buy any new clothes or splash out on anything.

Full time, well paid job and nowt to show for it.

Get yourself:

Discovery wraps £1.50 for 8 (enough for 3 meals)
Tesco basic frying steak £3 (enough for 2/3 meals)
Turkey £3 (enough for 2/3 meals)
Red Onions £1.30 for 3 (enough for 6 meals)
Old El Paso Fajita mix 80p (enough for 3 meals)

I basically eat this 4 days out the 7, mixing it up between turkey and steak and then have pasta the rest of the time. Cheap, tasty and not too unhealthy.

Yeah everyone I know in Oz are complaining about it, American friends are saying that food costs especially over in the States have gone up loads over the last couple of years too. Feels like the whole world really is feeling the pinch at the moment...

Food prices have shot up to the point where some days I miss out on starters and just have 2 courses for lunch. My evening meal towards the end of the month is only accompanied by house wine instead of something vintage from time to time too. We are all in this together after all? Surely not. I'd have let the chauffeur go before that. There are limousine companies after all, but a good butler is worth his weight in gold. You don't actually answer your own front door now surely. Sorry, I know that's a ridiculous suggestion, but does having the maid answer really set the right tone? Even if it IS the 'tween parlour maid.
