A forward. Any promising, young or experienced journeyman forward will do me. Someone who knows where the net is. It's been concerning me how no-one (a forward) looks ready to make the set up from the ressies to the first team. We haven't seen anyone on the bench that I've noticed, not even as a wildcard to throw on for 20 minutes in a game like yesterday. Instead we end up with 5 defenders on the pitch, and 3 on the bench.

Based on the comments from Brucey above, this is encouraging.

True.

But who's to say this would be the wrong move?
Only the club know that if they have scouted him intensely, but it looks like a risk if he is the player mentioned would you not agree?  I don't know what to make of our transfer dealings and reported targets, I'm worried but perhaps these are the best we can attract. right now.

Honestly couldn't say if it was the right thing or not. Ive never seem him play.

It could be a risk, or it could be an absolute no brainer as he might be a potential star.

But we really couldn't say either way right now could we.

You'd have been brilliant at 3-2-1.

Not everyone was alive then ;).

Not sure this guy would move so soon after moving to Groningen. Would be nice to have a younger up and coming striker in the squad though.

Looking at his goals on youtube one thing jumps out, when he gets a chance his 1st thought seems to be to get his body over the ball and keep his finish low. It's a very under-appreciated skill IMO and usually points to the player being a natural goalscorer. Looks very promising, this lad.

At the very least he's a striker. And we need one, so i'll be happy if we do sign him. Can't hurt to add to the Uruguayan/ South American contingent in the squad either.

found some uruguayanese  8) press reports but i'm not sure they're not making the same mistake as some in this thread to be honest

this one seems to be relying on the grobelaar comments partly and partly on english press reports that the 'deal' is almost done

Quote
The media in England are almost as a fait accompli that the contract to another Uruguayan Liverpool: David Texeira.

The forward 20 years, born in Salto, currently playing in Groningen in the Netherlands (Suárez first club in football in Europe) and generated great interest in the European concert for their ability in the execution: in 12 Dutch League matches became seven goals, a mark that is already highly praised in the Netherlands.

"The football in England is faster. In Italy football is strong, but I think it plays as an equal. It is not easy to get there. You have to be with his feet on the ground doing the right thing and minded in the one, then things come alone, I think you can give, "said David Texeira in an interview with Goal.com.

Groningen striker also said in the interview that is to follow much the Inter Milan team that was from the time of Alvaro Recoba.

But now there is another big European team is close to signing him, and Liverpool is the club where he plays his compatriot and striker Luis Suarez. The set of Anfield in the transfer market would sign two forwards, one renowned and one would Texeira.

http://www.ovaciondigital.com.uy/120117/futinter-619052/futbolinternacional/salto-al-liverpool/   (posted 15 hours ago)

in other words - vickery is quoting uruguayan press - who are quoting english press - who are reporting jaoa teixiera as being nearly a done deal

the uruguayan press article doesn't mention the money in the supposed david teixiera deal - if they did it would be apparent that they're citing the guardian articles etc.

I think he got a hat-trick recently didn't he? Not that that makes any difference, but 4 goals in 11 games gives the anti-everything brigade something to talk about.

I would welcome any extra option up front myself.

I'm a big fan, he's very knowledgable and to be honest his blog on the BBC is the only one I always enjoy reading.

of course him defending Suarez on the BBC put him up even higher on the pedestal that I've already put him on

Apologies if this is a crap source but some guy I'm following on Twitter (not sure why I started... I get confused with all these different "sources") said the following recently:

Kippy2011 Kips
David Texeira is a done deal.

Kippy2011 Kips
youtube.com/watch?feature=…! just a few things need to be ironed out but this is #LFC new striker

Sorry if not reliable.  Delete if deemed necessary ;D

When did he post that? Wouldn't be just after Tim Vickery's story broke by any chance?
