How many games before Suarez is back now?!

Time to get real people...

-- Kenny / Steve need their arses smacked for the bizarre formation / tactics AT HOME TO FACKING STOKE. What is it? Is it fear or is it an arrogance that says "yeah, we'll play kuyt up front - he'll be alright to score a few against this lot"?

Or is it the exact same formation, with Kuyt up front again, that we used last season at home against them when everyone praised the performance? Yes, indeed it is.

The players just didn't execute it well today.

At least in the previous home draws we created a hatful of chances. From the off it was difficult to see where a goal was gonna come from. Some great long passing from Adam invariably followed by no quality in the final third. Downing is a waste of space.

The problem with that set up is that it requires incisive runs from a sharp knife of a frontman, and I'm afraid Kuyt at this point is a spoon.

Some may complain about Webb, but we deserved nothing more than what we got.  Frustrating.

Liverpool's style of football is absolutely atrocious. No movement, nobody attacks the space, every attacking move is plodding and mechanical, and totally predictable and easy to defend against. We play the worst football in the league relative to the quality of players we have.

On the plus side, the defence remains watertight, mainly thanks to Skrtel who has become absolutely commanding in the air.

Kenny Dalglish - what the fuck was you thinking when you picked this team, formation and tactics?

It was fucking Stoke City, not Barcelona at the nou camp, why start with some random 5-3-1-1 formation or whatever it was, why did you change the team SO much, and why did you play SO defensively, also why do you persist with Downing when everytime he plays he doesn't do shit, and why do you persist on leaving Maxi on the bench, why did you play Kuyt upfront on his own - a man who ain't scored in the league ALL SEASON, why, fuck sake yes the players were utter shite today and they take a lot of the blame today, but you cannot fail to criticize Kenny for the way he set us up and had us playing today, that was utter shite and now we are 5 points off 4th, could be 7th by Monday, and have the likes of Stoke breathing down our necks in the league.

Absolutely fucking gutted.

The team selection was abysmal. How can we let Stoke of all clubs dictate the way we play? THEY should be worried about how WE are going to play. 5 at the back at home against Stoke with an out-of-form, past-it Dirk Kuyt up top. Just.... ugh.

We've had too many "off games" if we're serious about top four. :\

Still believe we'll make it if we win the Carling Cup though. We have Bolton and someone else before Suarez is available again for the PL. Really need to get 6 points out of them. 2 games out of the top four atm, and our goal difference isn't going to help us at all.

Garbage. While you can argue it's the change in formation, or personnel, for me we are just mentally weak as a football side when it comes to the business on the park. We don't commit enough men forward when we should - in most games, today they had 7 or 8 players defending for most of the match and yet until Andy came on, the most we had going forward was about 4. Indicative of a team that lacks confidence in itself. Doesn't help that we have several players woefully out of form/simply not good enough.

Sad to say, but the next two weeks determine whether or not fourth is well and truly out of sight, and I'm not even talking about results. We need to buy at least 1, probably 2 creative attacking players in this window, to try and address this issue, because this current make-up is absolutely not good enough to score enough goals and win enough games to catch up to the teams ahead, and I think even with Suarez back we're still relying on good fortune to get back into Europe. A bleak reality-check after the Man City result.
You have posted literally nothing of substance to flame about.  Your "points", and I dread to call them that, were superficial and completely arbitrary.  Nothing you said could be argued against because nothing you said elaborated a position of any kind.

Its over half the season and we are still waiting?

People cant really complain about Stoke. What they did to us, we did to Man City, we simply dont have the quality to break down Stoke and Kenny? You got it wrong ...... badly wrong.

What should Kenny have done with the players available?
It's just sex and violence, melody and silence.

Not even shocked to be honest....basically the only way we get 4th is if Chelsea and Arsenal continue to fuck up. And somehow I doubt they will drop more points then us at home.

If we played Top 4 teams all season we'd probably do better then playing the rest because we never seem up for these games, and that's pretty damning.

We didn't quite have the personnel to win that one in the way we were trying to. I don't think any of the players played horrendously poorly compared to what you'd expect of them. Tactically we should've set up a little different, and started flooding players forward earlier in the game that in the final 15 minutes.

Overall it was a depressingly limp performance. One of our worst this season. Dean Sturridge accurately pointed out that normally we've had frustrating home draws wherein we've failed to finish good chances we've created for ourselves. Today we hardly even tested their goalkeeper. Pretty worrying, although Stoke are brilliant at defending with 9 men in their box.

Skrtel MOTM for me, the lad developed into such a complete defender. Very nice headers from him.

Kenny has to shoulder a lot of the blame for that, why he felt the need to play three centre-backs against that attack is beyond me.  This season has been extremely frustrating, up until the final third we're one of the tidiest sides in the league, but we're also probably one of the least creative.  We're desperately missing Suarez as we haven't got an attacking player close to his level.

Coates, Skrtel, both fullbacks and Adam are the only ones to come out of that with any credit in my opinion.

Stoke defended like their lives depended on it, and credit to them for that. Probably could played another 3 hours and not scored.

Frustrating as hell that. Bring on Bolton. Should be another 'fun' game.

Yikes.

I didn't get too worried over some of the previous bad home results, because we were creating chances and it looked like it would eventually come together.  But that, ... that was really poor.

I'm struggling to think of a really good chance, apart from that one Kuyt header wide.  I thought we should have shot the ball more often; they were giving our attackers 2 yards of space 20-25 yards out, and I thought Gerrard in particular was going to make them pay for it.  Instead he had a go, missed, and then seemed to decide not to do it any more.  We were never going to Barcelona our way through the 8 men they had standing on the 18 yard line every time we had the ball.

To sum up: we were poor.  Not just with our execution, which has been the problem thus far in the season, but tactically.  I still thought we'd win when I saw the team sheet, but my confidence was way down from what it was before I saw it.

Well, we didn't lose and I guess that was a huge part of our gameplan if you look at the lineup and the way we played. It's good to not lose but when you're trying to get into the top-4 which I assume is our target, or am I completely overvaluaing our team?

I think it's clear we need to make changes in management, there's no structure whatsoever and most of our players isn't good enough to win games individually. I can't believe how swiftly things have changed, under Rafa we one almost every singel home game against the poor sides with ease.

Terrible day and we're far off fourth place right now. We badly needs Suarez and Lucas in the team.

Fucking shit

Fuck of.
Couldnt agree more, henderson was rubbish and downing slow with passes and movement. Adam couple of hollywood passes but then everything else is short or back and when he doesnt have the ball he doesnt run on beyond it to create movement between the lines he stops and waits 5 yards inside which gives us know option.
Dirk thanks for the service but please find someone who can hit a barn door
Its 15th of January the window has been open for 2 weeks and we have known we'd be missing suarez possibly why isnt the striker signed yet, we are throwing away points and the CL place which will cost us more money then if they just hurried up and did it. Surely we have identified someone otherwise whats comolli being doing other than getting suarez into trouble so if we know who we want and we've started discussions when we identified them first day of the window it should have been done instead we'll overpay again in the back end of the window and have chucked away 6 or so points which will sink us again this year.

i found it hillarious how webb blew exactly on 94mins. you know after a whole 90mins of time wasting by stoke. but its nothing to do with the ref today.

its all about how slow we are. we have no attacking players bar stevie and luis who can beat a man. NOBODY. its terrible. sell downing now before we lose anymore money on him. bring in someone who is a) fast and can b) take on a man. i dont care who but we have enough grafters, we need some flair on the flanks.

tactics were all wrong as well. 5 at the back, with nobody in the air to make use of the crosses from the wing? kuyt couldnt hold up a ball with glue stuck to his feet today. woeful. i mean that was our worst performence this season by a long way.

and please lets not have people knocking stoke after we did the exact same at city midweek.
