Tell us your invention
« on: January 12, 2012, 08:03:05 PM »
Rules:
1. Describe something new that would entertain or be useful.
2. It doesn't exist yet. If we Google it, we won't see a photo or story of one. (Allowed: someone else as incompetent as you  ;)  has theorized one on their blog, but hasn't built one yet either)
3. I'm stealing everyone's ideas. One of them will hopefully make me rich. I will give you a 3% cut as a thank you.  ;)

I had an idea not long ago to prevent cyber crime somewhat. If google/facebook/emails linked your account with your IP in some way then you could choose to turn on the option to only be able to log on from your home IP/MAC address. Thought that might be a handy tool against hacking perhaps.

Don't have any invention myself, apart from shit you think you've invented only to have a quick google and realise hundreds have got their first.
Quite like Michael McIntyre's idea really though. Walk on to Dragon's Den, with a shotgun and an empty bag, just stand there and point the gun at them and after a bit of a pause they'll go "So...eh....whats your idea exactly?" and you respond

"It's quite simple really, put that cash in this bag"

Right. This is an awesome fucking idea right and it'll happen but I'm not smart enough to make it happen.

You get laptops and where you have the webcam, you put this sensor that tracks your eye movement. That way you can scroll without actually using your hands to scroll. You can click links by keeping your eyes fixed on it. Shit's awesome. Because sometimes I want to eat and lol at the same time and it's annoying if I have to scroll and click an shit.

This is happening.

I guess with technology like the wii tracking your arm movements with a sensor this isn't far off and probably already being done. In fact I think I might have seen something about a laptop that responds to your hand and eye movements.

A website - that is super secure of course - that combines all your bank and credit card and mortgage accts etc onto one page. I have about 6 credit cards for whatever reason, now I'll only use one at any given time, but I feel a need to check all the others out frequently to make sure nothing fishy is happening. Also have 3 different bank websites I need to check for checking, savings and joint accts. That's a lot of log-ins to remember.

Now that I've written that down, it's occurred to me that maybe I should just simplify my finances.

The Gecko Mini Duster Vacuum.

A grapefruit-sized robot that can crawl up and down walls, furniture and across floors and countertops. The bottom of it would have sticky treads and a miniature vacuum cleaner, and it would have little arms that would have twirling feather dusters on it. You'd set it free in a room and it would run rampant all over everything in the room. Up on the walls to dust off your pictures. Across your desk top to vacuum up crumbs and lint. Onto your bookshelf to dust your books off. Across your floor scooping up all the dust balls (like a Roomba does now).

It would eliminate 90% of your housecleaning chores. It will be invented someday -- it's just a matter of time before the technology is available. :thumbup

Tie them all together so a fraudster can get access to all of them at once?

Most likely impossible but...wireless plugs.

Basically you stick a tiny device in the back of the tele/skybox/hi-fi etc and then put the plug in the socket as normal but instead of wires its powered wirelessly...

Not all that easily. You'd have to know who was who and it's not like many people know how to spoof an address. You'd have to know whose MAC it was in order to know the correct log in information.

There are experimental rigs that do this. Horribly inefficient though.

Was just about to put something similar. It's ridiculous when you think about it, that with all the advances in electronics, we're still plugging things into the same wall sockets that we were in the 1940s

I have one that I mentioned somewhere else and someone actually gave it a go, not sure how it's progressing or they gave up on it or what.

An advanced ear plug alarm clock. Think about it. I'm not married but I bet one of the biggest complaints of sleeping with someone else every night is some type of noise they make, so just use ear plugs, right? Well, then you can't hear your alarm. Also, I'm sure many partners are woken up by the others alarm when they don't need to wake up til hours later.

My idea was somewhat of a bluetooth ear plug alarm clock. You can connect up to two pairs of earplugs to a device where you set the alarm time and other settings. Basically the alarm is a slight ringing noise (wouldn't have to be loud/disturbing as it's in your ear) that plays through the earplugs, it can ascend in loudness so it wouldn't startle you or anything. Also, another worry might be if a fire alarm went off, or a window broke and a burglars entering. You can set the sensitivity of the alarm for certain noises to play through the same speakers that the alarm goes through, but that's a whole other dilemma I haven't completely figured out yet.

This won't happen for 500 years but... you take a pill that eliminates your need to ever go to the bathroom. Food enters your system, and this pill breaks it down so that it simply evaporates through your pores odorlessly.

I got the idea from big saltwater aquariums I've had. If they're operating right, the fish waste is naturally broken down by trillions of bacteria in the tank. You still need to change water out once in a while, but a non-aquarist would be very surprised at how all that waste seems to just disappear. My invention would be a few steps beyond that technology.

Self cleaning clothes, that clean the bacteria off your skin whilst you wear them, so never having to shower or bath again.  ( or only occasionally, to self indulge and pamper yourself, obviously)
