The point is, we have Downing, a WINGER, playing in the Meireles role?

last season we had a left back playing central midfield.

the point is, if he can pass and move, it doesn't matter where he is on the pitch, he will always have the opportunity to beat players and working between the lines rather than out on the flank will give him just as many opportunities to create chances.

I just can't see where Stewart will fit in with this formation, he doesn't have the balls to play in the hole and with two dedicated wing backs, is there room out wide?

Couple of things people are saying on Twitter about Agger:

Quote
Agger arrived with the team at Anfield, but they said on LFCTV that he got an injury...

Quote
According to the LFC tv agger has a minor knock.

So hopefully it's just a minor knock and he'll be fine for next week.

Good thing is no Carroll, really irritates me when I see him being all Bamby in our front line.
Good line up. Lots of attacking play from the wingbacks who will have license to get forward.

Fingers crossed it is nothing serious but if Agger has been ruled out for a while we need to give Coates minutes on the pitch in preparation. Three at the back is one way of doing that without firing him in completely at the deep end.

Excellent point that.
You know what, I'm writing this here now and I'm going to put it in my signature and leave it there for the next 5 years, no matter how embarrassing it might or might not turn out to be: Jordan Henderson is going to be a fantastic player.

We need to be playing Carroll.  Against teams like Stoke, who park the bus and defend deep, having him causing problems in the box is exactly what we need.  Having two wing backs would suit him as well.  He's going to struggle to click with the team if he is dropped every other game.  That's not a criticisim of Kuyt, because he's capable of doing a job for us but I feel Carroll has to be given game time.

Also, last time I heard Kuyt was looking for his 50th goal (dunno whether for league or overall). This still the case isn't it?

The one game I expected Carroll to start...

...He doesn't.

Then we'd be playing in their hands by just whipping crosses to Andy 24/7 getting cleared left right and centre.

Better we play it on the ground... ie pass and move.  :wave

Would guess it's 5-4-1 with alot of freedom given to the wingbacks. Time for Johnson and Enrique to show their true quality here.

Agger must have a knock. The only logical conclusion I can draw is that he no longer trusts Jim in a two man defence and Coates is inexperienced. Put them in a 3 man defence while at the same time countering stokes aerial threat.

The problem then is it leaves us missing a midfielder. Some of our better football has been our key to control possession.

I just hope we don't concede a poxy peno today.

I'd rather put fabio in there and keep the pass and move philosophy, we shouldnt be overly focused on stoke, playour game first.

Bog-standard 4-4-2, get between the lines consistently and we'll create chances.

People complaining about Carroll not being in the team out of some misplaced sense of being a supporter.
He has been cack, and better to rest him than to play him. I bet Bamby would play better.

We are going to cream Stoke, lots of attack off the bench as well.

every CH has had Caroll in their back pockets, he can't hold onto a ball or even pass in staright line. Agt least Kuyt can hold the ball and if given any of the one on one chances Caroll has had in virtually every game he is far more likely to pop them in. Dirk is far beter as a striker than Caroll.

3 at the back is a good way of breaking Coates in I suppose. Strange line up, expect lots of bombing on from the full backs and Gerrard to break forward at every opportunity as he's the most likely to be able to put the ball in the back of the net. Hoping to make it through the 1st half with a clean sheet and hopefully introduce Bellamy for some cutting edge after half time.

Why are people shocked that Carroll isn't in the starting eleven. He's been given more than enough time to prove himself over the past few games. Now it's Dirk's turn, at least he'll stick to the game plan and keep running for 90 minutes.

Seems the only logical way this formation will go. 5 at the back quickly switching to 3 as Johnson and Enrique dart forward.

Only hope Downing doesn't get in Enrique's way and all confused as they still haven't got the best of understandings yet.

I don't mind that line up that much unless Carra plays as a DM.That would be dead wrong IMO.
Stage 1.  Denial.
Rodgers has massive balls and he's just rubbed them all over everyones faces. Enjoy the sweat of a brave man.
