its ok, we'll save £3m or so if we can get him in the summer as opposed to definitely getting him this window

Surely we'd face greater competition for him then though? And we do need players of his ilk in the team at the moment.

Of course we would. I dont understand why people feel we would have a decent chance to get him in the summer when a host more clubs will jump in looking to sign him. The same people saying we cant get players because we dont have CL football are reeling this kind of thing off asif trying to buy him now is a bad idea. Its the kind of thing that sees us miss out on players all the time and we continue to do it

They've paid down debt so false to say they've put nothing in

Part of the purchase price, and they would have had to pay that with no debt.

40 pages discussing a player that is not better than our 1st choice.

i have no issues with him coming her for a small fee, but we need the like of Hazard to make the next step.

we have made these backward and side steps for a long time, yet were now spending big money doing the same moves, battling with the likes of Newcastle for players.

Not only is he better but, and this is the depressing part, he's comfortably better than our first choice.

I assume you're talking about Kuyt or Maxi?  Those are the two players he would be coming in to replace/compete with.

I'm sorry, you're wrong. Have you ever watched him? He's a lot better than Downing. He's quick, agile, skilful on the ball and moves well off it. Probably won't be a world beater, but yes, he's good enough for a champions league team even. He performs well for a poor Blackburn, he'd look good alongside Suarez and Gerrard.
Don't think because he plays for Blackburn that he's poor, not all mid table team players are average (just the ones we bought last year :P)

Any movement on this? Or are we going to continue to dilly dally and let one of our rivals sneak in, only to watch on as he turns into a bloody good player, it's almost like I've seen this happen before..

I've no idea if we're interested in Hoilett, but I'd bet that if we were it'd go to the wire. We'll want to put maximum pressure on Blackburn, who will lose several million if they wait six months to sell him. So we take it to the last day, hoping Blackburn relent or the player hands a transfer request in.

One thing that was clear in the summer was that we wanted players who were desperate to play for us. Downing and Adam both made it clear to their clubs they wanted to move to us, and that helped with getting a deal done. Same with Enrique and Bellamy. We'll be wanting Hoilett to put pressure on Blackburn, both to help push the deal through and show he's committed to us.

Hoilett + Krasic (loan) in

Kuyt and/or Maxi out

We probably make money on those transfers. Not to mention improve significantly.

. Sums it up perfectly. God knows how many posts in the Transfer section, and really not a single person has the slightest idea if we are bringing in anyone at all. I know Kenny likes to keep things in house now, but things were much more fun when there were a few rumours flying round.

Yes ive watched him, Downing is a better player (although hasnt done too well for us - but not many signing do well for us of late) , better passer, more consistant, better footballing brain.

im not saying that Hoilett would not be a bad option, but he is not the quality of player who we should be looking at to move us to teh next level, he would be another squad player.

not to have a go at you mate, but people were raving the same way about Downing when he was linked to us and its a common thing to over boost someone who is linked to us and hype them up, pay over the odds etc and then try to give em away for free when they dont add any value to the team.

Not sure if that makes sense - I'm criticising Hoilett's alleged thought pattern here, not your info Scott. If no UK club signs him this window, that doesn't mean he won't have UK interest when he's out of contract in the summer. If anything, he'll have more interest when there's only a bit of compensation to pay Blackburn. But if he really wants to go abroad in the summer (i.e. he'd turn down a UK club in the summer, which is what Scott's report implies) why would he call that off if some UK club does a deal with him now?
