So, Schumi got a five-place grid drop at Monaco.  How does everyone else see the incident?

Personally thought it was a racing incident. But if you were to punish anyone it would be Schumi for his indecisiveness.

A perfect pit stop is a work of art. A perfect double pit stop is even better. Shame Mclaren haven't managed it this season

what are the 2 guys in the middle doing?

My guess would be keeping a drivers eye view of the wheels and front jack to ensure a safe release.

Looks to me like they are there to prevent any rocking motion of the car whilst it's on the jacks. Could be wrong but that's what I reckon.

So, Schumi got a five-place grid drop at Monaco.  How does everyone else see the incident?

I've looked at it quite a few times and nothing could be done. Schumacher couldn't have backed out and Senna did what he could to prevent an overtake. One move left and then move back and brake for the corner. That Mercedes has a lot of straight line speed and he caught the Williams super fast after getting in the slipstream. Couldn't be avoided.

what are the 2 guys in the middle doing?

That would be to balance the car. It could tip either way. Looking at it they both stick their hands into the sidepods and the engine intake. Whatever that thing is called, I always forget. That or their holding onto the camera mount.

That documentary is brilliant and really sobering viewing. My dad's said before how even watching the GPs in the 70s was a wierd experience - the sport itself was incredibly exciting but he said you could never really enjoy it completely because you were always wondering in the back of your mind whether you'd see someone get killed. Think the worst thing is how many of the fatalities were completely avoidable if they had had any proper marshalling/barriers or sense of risk management. That incident with the guy in the car made out of magnesium is just sickening.

The spectator that was interviewed who said he was hoping to see some good driving and crashes summed up the attitude of acceptability. Amazing how Jackie Stewart was treated by the track owners and race authorities whilst campaigning for better driver safety.

If that's the thing that I watched a while back the ending to it really kicks you in the gut.

Heartbreaking.

Want to know what setting fire to a £10 Million car and multimillion pound equipment looks like

:(

If that car makes monaco in 2 weeks it will be a miracle

The flames themselves were nowhere near the car, i'm reliably informed.

There's no structural damage to the chassis (key thing).

Cant wait for the weekend. Monaco may be one of the least enjoyable tracks on paper but its Monaco and its F1 perfection.

Looks like it'll be lovely weather here too so I'll be cracking a few beers and chilling Sunday afternoon to a great race

Haha,  class. I would love to drive round there. They added it to google street view a couple of months ago which is the closest I will get for now!

I bloody love Monaco, despite it's flaws. I love the way it punishes drivers for a single mistake, it can really spice things up.

For anyone who has never seen it, I just thought i'd share this - the last two laps of Monaco 1982 - the greatest example of the commentator's curse I have ever seen.

Was that the one where Vettel got a fresh set of tyres? He would have lost the race if it wasn't for that. Why the hell should teams get new tyres under a red flag, it's the one thing that is the teams decision. If the car breaks then yeah fine, fix the car. They didn't send a broken car out at the start of the race. They did however decide on the tyre strategy which is where teams win and lose.

yeah i tend to agree. the only way i think they should be allowed change is if the weather stops the race and for safety every team has to put on full wets

Apparently they've resurfaced the run out of the tunnel into the chicane and moved the barrier back 14 metres or so after Perez had his shunt there.

Interesting side story on Sunday

While we all watch the Monaco GP Rubens Barrichello will be starting in 10th place at the Indy 500. He's already had 3 races at IndyCar level so far and has been consistent (8th, 10th and 17th)

Good luck to him as we all know how dangerous that race can be

I did think of Rubens during the final few laps of the Spanish GP...wish so much he'd had the opportunity to bow out during a competitive points-scoring season.  Enjoyed his interview last year, at Interlagos - hope Sky do a Legends episode on him before long.

See I think he adds to the drama ;). Backmarkers around Monaco are a pain and hopefully wont let someone run away with the race

Plus the FIA will never enforce the 107% rule. Not at its showpiece event at least.
