Cheap gaming PC, advice needed
« on: December 25, 2011, 04:14:30 PM »
Wanting to buy a cheap PC, could theoretically build one myself but I've only ever done it once, and don't really have time to get all the parts together. Also petrified I'll end up breaking something when putting it together!

I'm not really a big gamer, though I'd like to play something like Skyrim, would be happy to play on a low res (1280x1064) as long as view distance was high - AA not needed - would be nice, but not essential.

I Found a few new PCs on Ebay which are close to me:

£299
1155 socket Intel G530 2.4Ghz Dual core tower PC
ATI HD6670 1Gb DDR3
(or with Nvidia GTS 450 OC 1Gb DDR5 for £49 extra)
4GB of Memory (will upgrade this to 8GB)
CD & DVD re-writer drive
250Gb SATAII hard drive (already have a 2Tb external)

or

£395
AMD Athlon 631 Quad Core 2.6Ghz tower PC
ATI Radeon HD 6770 1Gb
4GB of DDR3 ultra fast memory (will upgrade this to 8GB)
CD & DVD writer drive
500gb SATAII storage hard drive

or

If anybody lives near to Chester/Manchester/Liverpool and have something to sell which is better, or can build one for close to these prices then let me know.

Thanks for any help, and hope you are having a very Merry Christmas

Get this.

Will play games like skyrim and batman on medium/high settings with res you said.  You can also buy a cheap second hand ATI card on ebay and the graphics cores on the CPU will work together I think.  Doesn't come with an OS though, but I'm sure you can fix that up ;)

Very nearly purchased this, but ended up spotting this, a bit more expensive but quite a nice machine for the price:

£380

MEDION® AKOYA® P4323 D (A622) (REFURBISHED)
Intel® Core™ i5-2300 Processor, Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 2TB HDD, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA® GeForce® GTS450 DirectX® 11 graphics, MEDION® Data Port 3 for USB 3.0, WLAN

I've had a Medion in the past and liked it, so should be alright - got a guarantee on it as well.
