Yawn. You boring boring c*nts.

I long for the day you can talk about Ronaldo without Messi being mentioned, or vice versa.

Everyone knows Messi is better, get over it and talk about Ronaldo on this thread for fuck sake. He's a phenomenal player and anyone who says he's anything but the 2nd best in the world (and comfortably so) is on crack.

I agree mate, no need to bring messi into every bloody debate involving ronaldo. The guys a phenomenal player and lets just count our lucky stars he isn't play for the mancs anymore as they'd probably still be in europe if he was there and comfortably on 21 league titles I think.

As someone who doesnt watch a lot of spanish football could do with a question answering from la liga watchers

How many free kicks does Ronaldo actually score, every time he lines one up he does this bullshit trademark 5 paces back thingy and the commentators always jizz themselves and make out that im gonna see the greatest free kick the world has ever seen..........then he either twats it into row z or straight at the wall, must of seen him try that about 20 times and they have all been shite
question is does he actually score many?

Ronaldo is a very good free kick taker. Apparently scores 3 times the average amount, whatever that is. However, when he gets it wrong he definitely gets it wrong.

its amazing the amount of love he has for himself... but nevertheless he is an amazing player... a prick but he is amazing......

If he really cared about Portugal and not about Cristiano Ronaldo he would have taken the penalty earlier (3rd or 4th) but he wanted to be the one who will make the last one...

if it was Bento's decision then he is stupid, Ronaldo had to take it earlier and be a man like Xabi...

He scored 4 free kicks last season. Hardly prolific considering he takes every one that's in shooting distance, and the inordinate amount of free kicks Real Madrid get awarded.

Didn't he have a run of free kicks taken in La Liga without scoring that was second only to Roberto Carlos?  Sure I read something like that.

Quite an assumption that. You know, what with you not actually knowing the man in reality :)

Ronaldo is just very human and that makes him a great character, warts and all. Get the fuck over it everyone.

You judge a man by his actions. And the way he deports himself on a football field is deeply unpleasant.

Suarez is quite a twat on the pitch but supposedly a decent man off it. Do you judge him?

And what does Ronaldo do on the pitch that is so deplorable that people are prepared to hate him? dive? roll around? that isn't a good enough reason to judge a man's character.

I think the preening is the stuff that upsets people the most.  He plays like he's being filmed for a biopic.  Other players are c*nts, but they don't give off the same impression that it's all about them.

He cheats repeatedly. He is vain. He puts himself before the team repeated. His ego is out of control.

Oh and this:

By the way, I agree he should be quietly booted, contract terminated or given notice whatever employment law allows the club to get away with...

But to put his childish antics in some sort of comparative context, here's a description of what I mentioned above....

It is January 9, 2008, and in an upstairs room at Manchester United's training ground five elderly men in smart blazers are struggling with their emotions in front of a hushed audience. It is the club's media day building up to the 50th anniversary of the Munich air disaster and Sir Bobby Charlton's polite smile does not hide the fact he is trembling as he takes his seat. Bill Foulkes is straight-backed and dignified but only a couple of questions have been asked before the tears appear in his eyes and he reaches for a glass of water.

In an adjacent room Wayne Rooney has agreed to offer a modern-day perspective of that seminal day when 23 people, including eight members of Sir Matt Busby's team, were killed in the wreckage of the burnt-out BEA Elizabethan. It is not his specialist subject but he handles the occasion with dignity and more eloquence than some people might imagine. But then Cristiano Ronaldo comes through the double doors and the mood is broken.

He is wearing a white suit jacket and ripped jeans, looking every bit the boy-band hunk, but it is very obvious he is in a bad mood. He begins by berating Karen Shotbolt, the club's press officer, because he is waiting for Rooney and the event has over-run. He is banging his watch with his hand, flapping his arms and gesturing in the way that Portuguese footballers usually reserve for fussy referees and, at first, he is so animated it appears as if it might be a wind-up.

When he flounces back through the doors, cursing loudly, it is very obvious he is being deadly serious. Rooney is professional enough to carry on with his tribute but the attention is no longer exclusively on him. Thirty seconds later Ronaldo appears again, first rapping his forefinger against the glass in the door, then opening it by a fraction and starting to whistle at Rooney in the way that a farmer beckons his sheepdog.

It was such an unpleasant scene the journalists decided not to write about it because we had been invited to the training ground to cover a far more important subject and, when you have sat with men as noble as Charlton, Foulkes, Albert Scanlon, Harry Gregg and Kenny Morgans and seen the hurt in their eyes, it felt incongruous to veer off-track. But coming away from Carrington that day it was difficult not to wonder what had become of the pimply teenager with the braces on his teeth who had been photographed, in his first few weeks as a United player, holding hands with his mother, Dolores, as they crossed a busy Manchester street.

I judge people as people, and footballers as footballers. For example, Suarez and Drogba are absolute twats on the field. But, by all accounts, are very decent off it. Ronaldo, however, is a dickhead both on and off the field.

And yes I do. I would judge any LFC who dives in the manner that he does. There is a fundamental difference between maximising the effects of a foul and just diving. I do not want any LFC player to do the latter. Indeed, I would rather the former was not necessary and the referees actually did their job without the players having to make their minds up for them, but that is another debate.

Suarez is fanatical about the team winning. Ronaldo is fanatical about himself. The team merely being the vehicle to showcase his talents. He is the antithesis of the sporting ideals I want to instil in my kids.

The media has nothing to do with how he acts on a football field. That is completely in his control.

He gets a pretty soft ride from the press considering his on-field antics. Compare the vilification of Ngog to the reaction to his gamesmanship (or downright cheating if you prefer).

Unless we have an extremely close free kick on the right hand side of the box, Ronaldo should be taking them. In that situation though I would want Veloso.

He cheats no often or more than any other player. Vanity, everyone has something of that in them. Disagree completely. What you see as putting himself above the team, i see him as taking on the responsibility of leading the team. Ego out of control, how?

Hard working, incredibly disciplined in honing his talents, willing to take responsibility on the pitch, they aren't antitheses of sporting deals. They are admirable traits. And most importantly he's very human. He fails, he's criticised, abused week in week out very publicly but does he give up, bow down to the critics? nope. He works harder to improve himself, to prove his critics wrong. I'm not ashamed to admit but he's a man to be admired. And off the pitch, he's not a racist, sleeping with the wife/gf of a team mate, nor his sister in law and generally a decent guy.
