No way. Apparently, United have conceded 3 goals in 10 games when he has played, whereas they've conceded 19 goals in 13 games when he's been absent.

On average, we conceded around 8 shots per game with Lucas. Without Lucas, we conceded 14 against Fulham and those shots eventually pressurized us to conceding a goal.

Lucas' blow to us was more heftier than Vidic is for them.
That's your opinion mate and it's one up for discussion but, imo, Vidic has been immense for United these last few seasons and has helped cushion the blow of losing Ronaldo and Tevez by making their defence solid.  I think United have kind of reworked how they play and defence has become the strength.  Vidic is one of the reasons they can fall back on that part of their system because he is so consistent.  Rooney is a brilliant footballer but is prone to long periods without goals etc (although shouldn't just purely judge him on this).  Vidic is a consistently high performer, his level rarely drops.

Spot on. As much as I can't stand the sight of him, it still baffles me how anyone could describe him as average over rated.

I'd swap any of our central defenders (bar probably Agger) for him

as much as we miss Lucas we conceded and lost to Fulham because of the terrible refereeing and ridiculous sending off

Lucas is a huge loss to us....but im in the camp that believes Vidic is an even bigger loss for them

Vidic out even for the start of next season, apparently.

Ferguson's coming out with his usual shite about having the Glazer money but not wanting to buy because it disrupts the squad or something, despite having an injury list as long as your arm. Could be interesting if he really buys no one and they get a few more injuries or suspensions.

They've dropped 9 points in the league all season...wtf  :o :o

Just saw one of their fans posting :"I love Hodgson's interviews. Liverpool would be way less mediocre had he started in charge"

Let's be honest, we know how good/bad we are and don't make any bones about it.  So there's nothing wrong with revelling in seeing that shower of shite failing at the first hurdle in a competition that they think they have some divine right to win.
I think most of us are chuckling at the mancs not because they're in the Europa League (a fine competition), but because as you state they think they are 'above' that. They're not. They're just one of six strong clubs in the league, with not much separating us.  Their run is over, but many of their deluded supporters are still expecting everyone else to bow down to them.

I predicted that Wolves would be beaten 9-0 because McCarthy would have only have had interests in helping his chum out in their time of need. Terrible game. Non existant 'defending' and no desire to win.

I mean, what do people expect? You have fucking nothing that are completely rubbish in Europe that give Manchester United a lesson in football and then you have midtable clubs which regularly lose before they've even walked on the pitch. League's not bent though

Man Utd to be reinstated into the Champions League?

Just seen this on the Sporting Life website, surely it can't happen?

MAN UTD 16/1 FOR CHAMPIONS RETURN
By Andy Schooler

Sky Bet's Odds Compare All Prices
Click here for our interactive football stats

William Hill are offering 16/1 that Manchester United are reinstated in this season's Champions League.

The price comes as a result of a row between FIFA and the Swiss FA. The latter are refusing to give up the fight against FC Sion's removal from the Europa League for fielding ineligible players.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has upheld the decision to boot them out, but the Swiss continue to use their domsetic courts to challenge it - something which is against FIFA rules.

A statement from FIFA read: "The executive decided to give a final deadline of January 13 2012 to the Swiss FA to enforce the registration ban imposed on Sion by the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber and confirmed by the Swiss Federal Court and to sanction the attitude of the club repeatedly trying to circumvent this decision in a legally abusive manner.

"As a consequence, all matches in which the relevant players participated shall be declared forfeit or three points shall be deducted respectively. Should this deadline not be respected, the Swiss FA will be automatically suspended from January 14 2012 onwards."

Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe said: "FIFA are trying to kill off FC Sion's long-running legal case against them and has threatened to ban all Swiss teams from international competition if it isn't resolved by January - which could just open the door for United, who finished behind FC Basel, to be reinstated."

On Friday, Basel were drawn against Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the Champions League.

United, meanwhile, are currently due to meet Ajax in the last 32 of the Europa League in the New Year."

I say let them! They'll be forever tainted by the spineless, soulless way they got back into the knockout rounds just to fatten the Glazers' wallets even more, and they'll get fucking slaughtered by Bayern or Real or Barca and with no hope of winning the Europa League.

Good luck you Manc bastards! Hope you get back in it.

Interesting. I thought it was going to be one of those stupid joke threads.

It's really unlikely obviously. But if they DID eliminate Basel, then, logically, Bayern (?) should get a bye, rather than reinstating United. Remember, Basel have qualified fair and square; if they LATER make a decision that eliminates Swiss clubs then you can't go back and reinstate a different club, because that club did not suffer as a consequence of the reason Basel have been eliminated (unlike Celtic). It's a different set of circumstances. So you have to make a decision based on where you are in January, not looking back.

I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

Fifa now want the Swiss League to award 3-0 defeats against Sion in every domestic match in which any of the six players were fielded. "The executive committee decided to give a final deadline of 13 January to the Swiss FA to enforce the registration ban imposed on Sion ... and to sanction the attitude of the club repeatedly trying to circumvent this decision in a legally abusive manner," said Fifa.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/dec/17/sion-manchester-united-champions-league

I'm going to stick up for FIFA over this.  It's good that they're taking a stand and enforcing the rules of the competition, you can't pick players who weren't registered properly.  Contrast this with our FA who decide to fine West Ham for playing Tevez but decide any actual punishment that involves changing results is just too bothersome to do, hard luck Sheffield United (but fuck you Warnock).

Since Man Utd and Spurs are already busy in the Uefa Cup then they should take the next highest placed team from that country.
Well, seriously, I think if they want to ban Swiss teams then the most reasonable choice is to give Munich a free pass to the next round. It wouldn't be fair to bring any failed team in to replace Basel.
