i really would love us to get an m'vila type player next to him so that were far more solid and can win midfield battles again, would be good to ease the pressure off him in terms of being over reliant on him

That's the kind of plan we should have had in January...
Exactly and we did nothing. Getting a dm might well have gotten us an extra 10/15 points and who knows another cup. We just sat back and assumed Spearing could do the job but you should never send out a boy to do a mans job and Spearing will only ever be a boy.

I'd have to say: this team+lucas+wide players -- then i'd agree with you about top4, or even better. It's not a good thing that we're so dependent on him, but then again, such a long injury as his is rare, and is not likely to happen again. With Lucas back, Gerrard hopefully injury-free, and Henderson and Shelvey both a year older, I predict a much more solid central midfield for us next season.

Only concern, as people say, is a defensive back-up; but if Lucas can remain fit, i don't see a problem in relying on Spearing for the odd game, as long as it's not any more than that. Money can be better spent elsewhere, e.g. wingers.

No, not for 'the odd game', unless you mean that literally. Form, rotation, injury, suspensions. We need another DM/CM whom we would be comfortable with playing at least half the available/possible games in a season (League, Cups, Europe).
not really...next season he [Lucas Leiva] wont be here or he'll be here as bench warmer...mark my words

Doesn't surprised me.

Spearing, Henderson, Shelvey all press but they don't really tackle much.

Gerrard doesn't tackle much and Adam isn't known for his tackling.

Just shows what a loss Lucas has been.

I keep forgetting in the 12 games he played (only two losses) we averaged 1.833 points per game a 70 points season pace. Guess what, that would be enough for a thirs place finish and guaranteed CL. I know it's hard to project these out but boy after he got injured we quickly collapsed. In the next 24 games we earned only 27 points.
Let me repeat:
12 games with Lucas 22 points   (70pts season pace) CL worthy.
24 games without Lucas 27 points  (43pts season pace) that would put us at 15th spot. WOW

I got the Lucas thing wrong. Will be right on Henderson though. Play him RM, play him CM - Not good enough and never will be.

Does he get a summer holiday?

Probably not. He'll need to go through a physio program to recover in time for preseason. He had so much time off anyways, he spent a lot of that at home in Brazil too.

My guess would be that he stays and trains at Melwood.

Don't know, but the break has come at a perfect time.....

He would be pushing back towards the first team in 3 or 4 weeks and now he gets another couple of months to get himself really really fit and get a proper preseason in.....

If I were Kenny I would put him on against Chelsea in the last minute of the added time just to end the season on a positive note. Need not touch the ball or run, or tacle god forbid.

to be honest I think when the players do their lap of honour around the ground he Will get a Good enough reception then! Be just great seeing him on that pitch!

Bizarre really when you consider how people regarded him a few years ago, hope for someone like Henderson surely. I think the odds on us next year will be pretty long but if he can stay fit, Carroll can be what he was on saturday and there are a few more players added we could be a different proposition but hey, that's what I thought this year.

Reina
Johnson Agger Skrtel Enrique
                  Lucas
*****                      *******
Gerrard                  Suarez
               Carroll

Henderson Kelly Sterling Coates ***********

Starts to look, albeit squad thin, half decent, its just creatives and some depth up front. But just what difference Lucas makes to that team sheet.

Depth missing though after that.
