i've actually thought about this in terms of a 5-year window.
sterling(21) carroll(27) suarez(29)
suso(23) lucas(29) henderson(26)
robinson(23) wisdom(23) coates(26) kelly(26)
reina(34)
in keeping up with the youth/reserves thread, i realize a lot of people do not see it with suso. i'm hopeful.
people are right in that lately, he hasn't shown much patience in the nextgen tournament. i concede that.
i do sense, however, that he has the discipline in him to retain possession like lucas shows masterfully and jordan henderson as well (a bit too much at times). in an odd way, suso appears right now to be a smoother version of charlie adam in his blackpool/early liverpool days in that he's too frequently looking for the killer ball when it isn't always needed. what a talent nonetheless.
this is the team that i hope makes it through the years but if i'm being honest i'd say the biggest question marks on that list are suso, carroll, robinson and kelly (to a much smaller degree).
that probably is outrageous to some given that we haven't seen wisdom in the first team at all, and we've barely seen coates but just judging on what i have seen of each player, i like those two immensely. the pace and strength of one. the aerial ability and reading of the other.
part of me wonders if our manager five years down the line will prefer a more cunning right back. it's not to slight kelly; i just think he offers a different style. queue the ongoing future center back argument.
jack robinson is one who confuses me a bit. i haven't been able to pick out one thing he does extremely well. this sounds like another slight; it's not. jose enrique boxes out attackers extremely well. ashley cole supports the attack as well as anyone in the world. maybe jack's just more of an all-rounder rather than a player who does one thing extremely well. he's 18 mind you.. but this is a thread for indulging in footballing fantasies.
and before i get fucking crucified.. i don't cheer for any liverpool player to fail. i'm just trying to opine on players' potential.
hell, i wanted to see the best out of paul konchesky and christian poulsen.
