Ten years on at LFC
« on: November 4, 2011, 01:12:57 AM »
Given the players we have now, realistically which will be contenders (or even Definates) for being in the first team in Ten years time?

We have first teamers that are relatively young and (After Rafa changed it around and built on the foundations set by Ged) we finally seem to at last be getting some real, real talent though the acadamy - both in the reserves (And on loan) and in the under 18s.

Which will make the grade? Which really catch your eye and which are nailed on certs?
Football has reached the ninth gate of farce and pathetic, unbelievable trite nonsense. It's supposed to be a game and it's turned into pantomime, hype, quilts and bellends.

In ten years I think Reina (what a prospect that is!!) and Coates will be the only first teamers left, with maybe Carroll. I would also have hopes for Shelvey, Robinson, Morgan, Wisdom and Sterling.

And Joe Cole  :P
Let us never forget Rafael Benitez and what he did for us. A fighter full of guts and passion. A gentleman full of class and dignity. A football manager full of intelligence and pure genius. A Legend.
Adios Rafa, buena suerte.

Not sure he'll play for us at 39..

Raheem Sterling and Coady are the only dead certs for me. Think Shelveys got a chance of being first team at some point.

That's actually an interesting one. Ok, 39 is very ambitious by me, but how long can Reina go on? Considering how long James, Friedel and Van der Saar went/are going, I think 36/37 isn't out of the question. Which would make it 14 seasons in total for him and more than likely make him our best ever goalkeeper.

Football without fans is nothing.

We've won 18 titles, 5 European Cups, 7 FA Cups, but today must be the greatest victory of all.

Kelly.
Coady.
Morgan.
Sterling. (If RM doesn't pick him away. :()
Hendo.
Shelvey.
Wisdom?
Coates?

Idk... 10 years is too long. ._.

Why not do something like 5 instead?

LUCAS!

Can't believe anyone forget this man. But while I hope he would stay for another 6 years, I have sinking feeling his stay will be a bit shorter.
Would sacrifice Fordy in a sacred Mayan ritual to have him (Jurgen Klopp) as the next Liverpool manager

i've actually thought about this in terms of a 5-year window.

sterling(21) carroll(27) suarez(29)
suso(23) lucas(29) henderson(26)
robinson(23) wisdom(23) coates(26) kelly(26)
reina(34)

in keeping up with the youth/reserves thread, i realize  a lot of people do not see it with suso. i'm hopeful.
people are right in that lately, he hasn't shown much patience in the nextgen tournament. i concede that.
i do sense, however, that he has the discipline in him to retain possession like lucas shows masterfully and jordan henderson as well (a bit too much at times). in an odd way, suso appears right now to be a smoother version of charlie adam in his blackpool/early liverpool days in that he's too frequently looking for the killer ball when it isn't always needed. what a talent nonetheless.

this is the team that i hope makes it through the years but if i'm being honest i'd say the biggest question marks on that list are suso, carroll, robinson and kelly (to a much smaller degree).
that probably is outrageous to some given that we haven't seen wisdom in the first team at all, and we've barely seen coates but just judging on what i have seen of each player, i like those two immensely. the pace and strength of one. the aerial ability and reading of the other.
part of me wonders if our manager five years down the line will prefer a more cunning right back. it's not to slight kelly; i just think he offers a different style. queue the ongoing future center back argument.
jack robinson is one who confuses me a bit. i haven't been able to pick out one thing he does extremely well. this sounds like another slight; it's not. jose enrique boxes out attackers extremely well. ashley cole supports the attack as well as anyone in the world. maybe jack's just more of an all-rounder rather than a player who does one thing extremely well. he's 18 mind you.. but this is a thread for indulging in footballing fantasies.

and before i get fucking crucified.. i don't cheer for any liverpool player to fail. i'm just trying to opine on players' potential.
hell, i wanted to see the best out of paul konchesky and christian poulsen.

From what I have seen thus far, the ones I'd say that are good enough (and will still be young enough) to ply their trade here in 10 years time are Lucas, Sterling and Young Ben Foster
Roy. Shut up. Just shut up.

Good question Andy.

But the days of players spending 10 years at a single club are all but over, apart from one or two.
NO ONE will ever play the amount of games at top level that Cally did or come even close.
The game today is full of mercenaries. Cash is king in today’s game.
Our recent history of bringing on promising youth never materialises. Not so long ago we had 4 or 5 youngsters all in the U21 set up. All went elsewhere. First we loan them out, then we let them go.
Even the talented foreign youth players aren't coming through.
Daniel Pacheco is probably the best example.
Every time I’ve seen him play he’s spellbinding. He was the one I thought, he has a great future that lad. Amazing pace, scores goals for both club and country.
Where is he ? ON LOAN

Some threads like this, should be put in a time vault/capsule  (RAWK archive) and release them 10 years later. I bet the fans in 2021 would piss themselves laughing.
Most I bet would be saying who the fuck was he ?

My Prediction for 2021, lets see……
New Owners (Indian)
New Manager (German)
New staff (inc Carra hopefully)
100% New players
75% New fan base (mostly TV based)
New Ground (don’t make me laugh)
Music when we score a goal (God forbid)
Season tickets £3500 +
TV Season tickets £800 home £1500 home/away
Scouse Pie £7.50
Programme £12
Myself, slobbering from both corners of my mouth, smelling of piss in an old folks home and pining for my youth as an Anfield Road End Hooli.
