New stadium to be announced?
« on: November 1, 2011, 02:28:55 AM »
A poster over on YNWA seems to think so

"Just an update on this. heard today there will be a be a bit of a delay on the announcement, they were hoping to have it announced this week. Supposedly, the new stadium design is for 68000, they are still hoping to get that raised to 73k and thats what is holding things up. The designers are the same guys who designed the Beijing Olympic stadium, and the sponsorship/naming rights have all been agreed. its an Asian Insurance firm i think"

They also did Bayern's ground.

Lets hope its true.

Did Bayern's, the 'Bird's Nest' in Beijing, and designed a new stadium for Portsmouth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portsmouth_Dockland_Stadium) which never got built.

Sounds promising.

Asian Insurance firm would that be Standard Chartered?

But I guess we will have to see if this is true or not.

A quick google pulled up these guys:

http://www.aia.com/en/

They're supposedly the biggest life insurance company in the world....and the initials AIA seem like a good combo  for naming rights.

Pure speculation though...

"AIA Stadium", "AIA Arena"? I hope they are really careful with the naming, although I suppose once they are paying top dollar then we can't really complain.

Wonder when work will start, hopefully this summer.

Also, very impressed with the capacity. Thought we might only get 60,000.

If the name sucks we can always just call it Stanley Park (or Stanley park Stadium or whatever).

They only have 115 million in total assets so they are not that big.

The 4 that I listed have market valuation expressed in billions and China Life Insurance is biggest by far.

AIA is definitely one of the big names in Asia, I think they broke off from the american parent or something like that.

Another possibility: http://www.ms-ad-hd.com/en/ (better link)

I don't know where you got that value from, but here's an article from 29th October last year stating that their worth is over 35 billion:

The strong start boosted AIA's market value above the $35.5 billion Prudential had initially offered for AIA in March, vindicating AIG's decision not to accept a $30.4 billion bid that followed.

herzong & de meuron are about as good as it can get stylistically when it comes to stadiums.  if this all turns out to be true i'll be ecstatic.  thank christ hicks and gillette's stadium never got built.  i think they had halliburton doing it or something

Herzog and de Meuron, swiss architects were the designers of the Allianz and Olympic stadium, known for being very innovative with materials, particularly in relation to a building's skin. Would be great if they were the designers as we might end up with a stadium not only known for Liverpool, but also known based on its design excellence, whilst a lot of stadiums are not as they are more or less just takes on a stock-standard stadium type design.

Of course what really matters is the inside atmosphere but I'm sure the promise of good design and a recognizable image of the stadium was important in luring potential naming rights partners.
I tried signing my name here like it said but the ink went everywhere.

The commercial side and the football rivalry are two different things. Not too arsed about who else they sponsor even if its the mancs. Don't think there will too obvious overlap in terms of branding. They would not like that and neither would we and sponsors would garner nothing but negativity. So thats a lose-lose scenario for everyone. Lots of clubs have common partners on the commercial side but it is not made visible much.

Speculation... Some bloke says...

It doesn't tie in with what Ian Ayre has said in terms of capacity. The last few times I've heard him talk about the stadium it's been a question of the economics of adding 15,000 capacity. Either at Anfield (economically sound but huge practical problems), or a new stadium (not viable without naming rights).

And what do they mean 'hoping to get it raised to 73,000'? The only restriction would be the planners and there isn't a scheme in for planning at the moment - it's a public process.

This smells of bullshit. If anyone has any reason to beleve it's true PM me and I'll unlock the thread.
