Skrtel has said he's happy at the club.
"My coach told me to warm up just before the break. He told me I was going to take care of Kaka. I didn't think it was possible to turn things around but in the dressing room at halftime Rafa Benitez was calm - "We are Liverpool FC, we have so many fans, we are not going to be slaughtered. If we can score a goal quickly we push on from there.""

'Apparently'. Fact remains, he's said he's happy here.

We should keep him by all means. Not a good time to change our defense.

I would estimate the he earns between £50-£70k. Who can blame him for wanting a slice of the big boys cake? I mean watching Carra pick up all that cash for warming the bench is sure fire way of creating unrest.

His agent is playing a clever game in possibly touting his player. He either gets  big move or his client gets a pay rise.

Intersting to see what the club would do should an offer come in around £20m+ would we sell? I think we might be tempted to cash in.

He only has 2 years left on his current contract. So this is the last time to get maximum sale value. Once a players get into his last 18 months his price drops with every passing month.

So for me its very simple. He either signs a new deal or we should sell now. The problem we have of course if we want him to sign a deal is that i doubt we'll won't be offering him anywhere near the kind of money he could earn at rich clubs.

If Skrtel goes to Man City, I can see him forming a nice partnership with Kompany, starting every game and scoring 5-7 goals. That would really hurt my eyes. He is also only 27 year old, which means for a defender he is coming into peak and has at least good 6 years on him. Give him a new contract, 80-85k I think. Yes, 20M is a lot of cash, but defenders can have problems settling at new clubs and pretty much the only 2 things we have remaining from a very strong squad in 2009 to now is Reina and Skrtel, god knows what will happen if they both leave.

Skrtel may genuinely have had his head turned or may be after a pay rise, one thing for certain is he can't be happy Carra is being paid more than he is.

Pay for the privilege of replacing Benitez with Hodgson. Give Cole and Carragher 90k/wk contracts. Make a loss on Mascherano. What a summer of 2010 we had.

And we're still paying for it 2 years later.

I dont see him going to City, Kopmany plays on the right side of the two CB and Lescot on the left. Skertel looks shaky on the left when pairing Carra so unless he is there to be an understudy i dont see it myself.

That'll be Carragher making him look shaky rather than what side he finds himself on.

This'll be a big loss to us if this goes through. The defence was very good last season by and large, it was something to build on.

I tend to agree to some extent.

I think him and Agger compliment each other well and struck up a sound partnership when paired together. The first time they have had a run of games together.

We need Skrtel and a fit Agger (even though I did suggest selling him last year) with Johnson and Enrique. Great cover too. But Skrtel has emerged as the ace in the pack.

Its a real testament to our home game fans et all that he feels part of the fabric. That doesnt happen at many clubs.

A player has to GROW into that post. Also remember he is not just replacing any old CB. He essentially is taking Carra's spot.
It would take me a year to build up the courage to ask Carragher if wanted 'fries with that'.

Skrtel is now the man.

I would be disappointed if he left due to the fact he's had one great season. Sort of like an RVP situation, he shouldn't think he's too good for the club suddenly.
Fuck it, I'm taking me dog for a walk. The pair of us are completely bollocksed and take turns a piece dragging one another along. We look a bit like one of Roy's midfield pairings, but with a wee bit more guile and panache. Well, on the dog's side, anyway

I'd take £20million in a heartbeat for Skrtel.

He has been terrific this season but part of me thinks he has played above himself.

Its usually us who spend ridiculous cash on players on the back of 1 good season, only to see them plateau when they sign for us the following season.

£20million is the price for a world class defender, although he is very good, Skrtel is not world class.

How about: He has established himself this season and from here he can be great. A great. Sami had his issues too. As did Carragher.'

Why am I involved in this already?

Keep Skrtel or regret it every time we conceed.

Check the stats for the past couple of years, not just last year.  Skrtel is up there with Vidic, but for some reason was not so fawned over until this year. Some players are over-hyped, some are over-looked, such is life.

We couldn't replace him like for like, it's more of a case 'can you improve the squad for £25m' - I don't think we can and I certainly don't trust anyone at the club to spend that money.

We'd end up with Clint Dempsey and James Tomkins.

Skrtel is prone to being rash and can be a little naive in terms of his positioning. If money was an issue this summer, i'd take 20million for Skrtel and we could find an adequate replacement for less than half that fee.

Vidic is mad overrated, not worth 20million either by the way but he is still a better player than Skrtel.

Ladies!!

Skrtel is the mainstay of a very cohesive defense.
If you watch his career in red hitherto...you will see him.
Martin Kelly is exactley where he needs to be. In school learning from messrs Carragher, Agger and Skrtel.
And he will be AWESOME next season and therein...if he stays.

Are you saying Skrtel isn't a little rash and still learning his trade, in terms of positional sense?

I think he's a very good player who is still a little rough round the edges. Last year he was fantastic, but he's only going to get better, which excites me.

Every player is still learning their trade and improving their knowledge of the game, I agree he will only get better as he comes into his peak.  The "rash" tag stuck early on when he made a few mistakes for us, but I really can't think of many instances at all last year that would justify the continued accepted of this perception.

If hes not willing to sign a new deal THIS window and a bid comes in which is 20M+, we have to sell. It'll be sad but he either has to commit or go away.

I look at all the Arsenal fans crying about RVP, Nasri, Flamini etc. I don't want us to be in that position.

I dont mean rash, as in giving away pens and fly kicking people in the back.

Just little subtle things that the highest class of centre back dont do.

Its not a major concern, but sometimes Skrtel is a little too eager to attack the ball. Its a positive trait in some cases but he needs to learn to read situations a wee bit better.

I'm being picky, only because I think Skrtel could become an absolute monster.
