After an excellent start to his LFC career, I think he has been steadily declining since the beginning of 09/10.  He has become a lot more ‘panicky’.  Rushes passes when it appears as though he has time, will use Reina more often than not almost replicating his partner.  He is also prone to rash challenges when there is no need to make a challenge, like a when the striker has his back to goal 50 yards from the goal and Skrtel will concede a foul.  Also things like letting the ball bounce and then getting muscled out of a physical challenge.  It happens to him too often.

Obviously he has many good points as well but I’m making a case for why we should improve on him and above is why.  I would love if found previous form but I don’t think that’s going to happen.  Still, I hope.

I don't think he is commanding enough, not in this league anyway.

I think he has returned to form to be honest. At least in the last couple matches as well as the last half of last season.  There just seems to be an aura of confidence about his play and his decision making.   Yesterday when he ran back from a corner to tackle the player at halfway.  Against Norwich, when the striker beat Carra I think, and he chased after the norwich player and shunted the attack.  Not to mention the numerous runs  he's been on past the halfway line.  He just has a lot more faith in his own ability than before. Under kenny, I think he's really started to improve again.  As has Johnson

It's Jimmy Corkhill:
Still "heart in mouth" moment when he's near the ball for me.

Not been the same since he was injured at City.

Well the thing with bouncing ball and beeing outmuscled I remember twice during last year....It was awful against Defoe but that was a mare game for martin at WHL and against C. Cole against West Ham last season. Ell, it was in stoppage time, Martin was already on the yellow and Cole came in as a substitute 2 minutes before so there were some reaons why he could  have been done by Carlton. Well to be outmuscled twice in 20+ games is not that bad.

And those rash calleneges from behind are a myth. martin makes one challenge of that kind every 3rd or 4th game but 4 times out of 5 he stopps oponnetns attack with tackle like that. To be a central defender you need to take a risk. I like his active defending, it is his way of playing...rather than give the opponent time on the ball and then making somke risky challenges 20 yards from Pepe...

I seem to remember him getting outmuscled by Nile 'Gangsters Paradise' Ranger as well.  The thing is that type of mistake, letting the ball bounce and then getting beaten to it, that is Sunday League football.  Seriously, it is really poor.  And I think it all stems from him being nervous.  I don't want nerves in my back four.  It's contagious.

That happens with Carragher much more, though it is overlooked for some reason. I remember even Zavon Hines gave Carra an absolute nightmare.
