Just got back from the game.

Lucas, Enrique and Suarez apart we looked like a bunch of journey men footballers.  In many ways the game reminded me of our 4 0 demolision of R Madrid - as Arry said, they murdered us when it was 11 v 11.

Henderson and Carroll worry me.

Carroll movement was appaling - he only seems to come alive when the ball is hit long and even then Kabul consistently got the better of him. Does not appear to have the game intelligence to make up for his lack of mobility.
I think his technique is better than some on here give him credit for, as he is always gonna look a bit ungainly, but his feet just dont seem quick enough for a pass move side.

Conversely, Henderson appears to have the guile but has no modicom of confidence, he was an absolute passenger.

Adam was also disappointing. Think he will look good at anfield against the dross and when we are on top against good teams but away from home may be an issue. Not sure he is good enough defensively.

Dalglish was a bit naive in his team selection today and it showed from pretty much the first whistle. The man is a legend and a hero at the club but we have to hold our hands up today and say he got it wrong.

I was thinking this and perhaps yer right, BUT we just didnt get hold of the ball today from the off.
Then we get a man sent off so we'll never really know.

Quite amazing the amount of people who keep saying that our start to the season has been a good one. It really hasn't. We have 7 points from 15, that's not good in anyone's book.

The only bright side is that we have already played Arsenal, Tottenham, and Stoke away from home, and not many sides will go to those places and come away with a win either.

Let's face it though, if you're honest you're being blinded by the Kenny factor, we all are. If we had 7 points from 15 under a lesser manager we'd all be pretty fucked off with that, but it's Kenny so it's all alright. And I'm not having a pop at Kenny in the slightest, even if I do think he got it bang wrong today. I'm just saying that there's still a fair bit wrong with the side, and it's acceptable to not be very pleased with it.
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

Fuck me, the people in here questioning Kenny.

See I hate this attitude.
I have no doubt that Kenny is the right man. I have no doubt that he'll do well, but he's a human being and does not get it right all of the time.
I have to agree with people that his selection today was a bit misguided.

We need Stevie, because he will press the issue. Too much back passing IMO. Skrtel & Carra aren't confident enough with the ball, so with a team pressing like Spurs were they were reduced to passing it back to Pepe.

You're right that it's 1 game but when we lose we want 2 lose fighting till the end. This was definately the worst display by Liverpool under King Kenny and dare I say it worse than any Roy Hodgson game he was in charge with.
we lost at home to wolves and blackpool and looked dire in every game we played under roy hodgson so dont you fucking dare compare a defeat away to spuds playing an hour with 10 men and half an hour with 9 men to roy hodgsons tenure dont you fucking dare :no

No excuses. Completely outplayed. Spurs were better in every department, and once we started losing our discipline, it was over.

Massive improvement required.

Agreed. Even before we went down to 10 men we were being outplayed. Fair play to Spurs. Feckin hate them but they played us off the park well before Adam got his marching orders.

Will Skrtel and Adam just miss the Brighton game or does it not affect Carling Cup games? I guess it doesn't matter as Coates looks solid and hopefully we'll have Jonno and Gerrard back.

Three of our toughest away games in Arsenal, Stoke and Spurs out the way though.

Al i hear what you're saying, but i know of 3 more away games that will be far tougher.

United Chelsea and City - we just gonna write those off because they are difficult? - realistically we should be aiming to pick up points from those around us, Stoke and Tottenham fall into that category.

Does anyone have any idea what Carra was doing when he pulled Skrtel back onto the pitch and was trying to signal to the bench to make a substitution?
Or was he basically waiting until Coates was ready to come on and told Martin to wait?
I'm guessing Carra was thinking Kenny might make a tactical change to bring on another defender (Robinson? who looked like he was about to come on when Skrtel got the red) and replace someone else but it didn't happen. Coates was already on the pitch at that point having replaced Agger.

What I don't get was why Carroll was played on the wing after the first red card. He should of been the lone forward, with Suarez dropping deeper. This way, Suarez would have seen a lot more of the ball, and Carroll would have been able to hold up play for our other attacking players to push on.

Tottenham we argued had a better squad than us last season and the table showed. I think it is fair to say that despite our summer spending spree we still have quite a way to go before we can match their quality. People think they will implode during Winter but they didn't last year and I'm not so sure they will this year.

I think it is fair to say that Spurs out of us and Arsenal look more likely to get 4th (I think Arsenal will come good eventually). They have bought smartly in the summer and showed balls in keeping Modric who has more technical ability than our entire midfield put together.

Before the Stoke game I was hoping we would get 3rd but given our defensive, midfield and Andy Carroll issues it is going to be one mighty struggle to get 4th. Teams that close down and are physical (most Premiership teams) will make life very hard for our midfield. Right now it doesn't feel like our squad has improved that much Enrique, Suarez and Downing (has gone into his shell a bit after a bright start) aside.

As pointed by Al 555 we need to play with a higher line, make things more compact in midfield to help out our slow players. Also 4-4-2 when you have Adam/Henderson/Lucas and Carroll in the team is asking for trouble, only Downing and Suarez offer any type of speed. If we are to persist with playing Adam/Henderson/Lucas then Carroll needs to be dropped so Kuyt or Maxi can come in to bolster and help out the midfield which when pressurised struggles to string passes together.

When was the last time we have caught a player-offside? Has it happened this season? We are so stretched because of our defensive line that stringing passes together in midfield when harried is almost impossible. We can make changes to our formation but I think we have not bought that wisely and ultimately may have to bite the bullet on a few players if we are to progress as genuine CL challenging team.

In Holland, they don't say they are developing players - they say they are developing future coaches.

That's true, but then without looking for excuses, if the referee's had got decisions right we would arguabely be 2-3 poins better off (beating Sunderland and getting a draw at Stoke).

Other teams could of course say that though, but we have played 3 tough away games so I don't think there is much to be concerned about.

One thing does need to be said: in the post-Benitez era, there was media-led clamour (but also some politicking going on at the club) to make the club more English; the idea being that the club had lost the very essence of what it means to be ‘Liverpool’. Guillem Ballague 18/11/10

Saw it the same way and to be honest it's baffling as it has happened in other games as well. Suarez being the furthest forward with Carroll ending up somewhere in midfield or on the wing. He's a good footballer, but that's simply not a role that suits him.

Anyone else think Carroll looked a lot more lean and mobile today?

Nope, I thought he looked clueless and completely unnecessary.

Really don't understand the point in playing a striker, and not a very mobile one at that, in a wide midfield position for ages after a sending off when you have two players who are used to playing the position sitting on the bench. Not entirely Carroll's fault today, but he was out there for the entire game and offered nothing. Take him off at half-time when we're still only 1-0 down, bring Kuyt or Bellamy on instead, and we might have got something from the game. As it was we just had Andy Carroll standing around for most of it instead. Daft.
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

Also if Hodgson bought Andy Carroll, Adam and Henderson (young and most potential of all three, but no denying has been quite poor) I suspect a fair few of us would be fuming. It is because it is KK that we are holding back, wishing, hoping it will turn out all right despite the mounting evidence that it might not.

We were until people like you got itchy feet though weren't we. So I honestly don't think you are in a position to lecture people on having patience do you ?

Also if Hodgson bought Andy Carroll, Adam and Henderson (young and most potential of all three, but no denying has been quite poor) I suspect a fair few of us would be fuming. It is because it is KK that we are holding back, wishing, hoping it will turn out all right despite the mounting evidence that it might not.

But if you mention it on here that you're concerned you get slaughtered.

Just got in from the game. Thought our fans were superb today - majority stayed and sang YNWA at end. Today wasn't our day. Pure and simple. We've a cup tie to win this week then a home game vs Wolves Saturday.

Daft.

Wasnt saying he had a perticularly good game mate, just that he looked leaner and more mobile  :o

As for the wide midfield shizzle, god knows why he was played there. Possibly so he could exploit the small tottenham fullbacks aerial abilities? He should have scored that one at the far post v Assou Ekotto
