If we lose this with United and City winning, whatever slim hopes anyone thought we had of winning the title are already looking over.

We're already five points behind and that would make eight and curtains.

Beat that for pessimism Siannn ;)

The refs are such morons in our league you practically need.to hold up a sign saying "I've been fouled"...and imo that is what Suarez does.  Why should he stay on his feet or give up the ball when some talentless ogre has shin kicked him or pushed him in the back? He tries to stay.on his feet but if he then loses the ball cus his balance has gone he has every right to a foul.

He wont be able to handle either Suarez or Carroll

Suarez and maybe carroll played at the end of last season when they beat us 2-0 and he got man of the match
Take us back to the champions league....

Would be nice.

Really hope we win. We already dropped more points than I expected, and we are due for a win at Spurs.
Hopefully Kelly will be fit. And I'd like to see Bellamy and Kuyt start.

Are you serious?

The referees in this league are so inconsistent it's far beyond a joke. Some refs will give a penalty/free-kick if someone falls over without another player near them.

Suarez will dramatise and go down as easily as many other players at times - and you would say exactly the same if he played elsewhere.

Most players today go down far too easily...so it's lucky they aren't prostitutes, or they wouldn't make much money.

Flanaghan was big time at fault for Sunderland's leveller on the opening day.

This is the squad we sent for tonights Europa League game:

Corluka or Walker the only players out of that lot that would have a chance of starting Sunday.

Small time Spuds. The Europa is now beneath you lot eh? One fucking season in the CL and Spuds are now too big for the Europa. Rich European history you lot have. Disgraceful.

EDIT: Not having a go at Tommy. More about their general disdain for the competition which for a club that aren't exactly the stature of Real Madrid or Bayern Munich is laughable really.

To be fair, mate, we played weakened squads in it last season and probably would have played our youngsters this season.

Why?

That squad is ridiculous, its an insult to the opposition as well. A few changes here and there is understandable but that team doesn't remotely resemble their first team.

We did try out a few players but we had a lot of 'first teamers' playing too. They might as well as withdraw from the competition.

Most players today go down far too easily...so it's lucky they aren't prostitutes, or they wouldn't make much money.

True but referees are to blame as much as the players.  Referees hardly ever give penalties if players stay on their feet despite them being fouled and give penalties regularly when players are touched and go down.  We watch in excruciating detail a slow mo replay to see if a players been touched or not and if he has had the slightest touch we actually call it a good decision if the ref awards a penalty.  It should only be deemed a foul, in my opinion, if the contact has caused the player to fall down or the contact has obstructed the player's progress.

Players like Nani, Suarez, Ronaldo, etc. are a product of poor refereeing.  If they were given fouls when they stayed on their feet under contact and were not given fouls despite minimal contact when they went down - they'd stop diving pretty quickly.

We fielded severely weakened teams against much better opposition than PAOK last season (Napoli).

Difference between a 'weakened' team and a an eleven consisting on one player who would make the first team squad.

It reminds me of Villa under O Neill where they took a piss poor squad to CSKA and were knocked out because they wanted to 'concentrate on getting a CL spot' only to end up 5th again.

Its not the CL but its still a competition that merits a wee bit respect(not to mention their opponents). But Harry and Spuds are just too big for it after one lucky season in the CL.

Hate Spuds , hope we thrash them.

So can you let us know how many players they should play before they past your 'respect' test? Is it 4, 5 first teamers? How many have to be over the age of 23? How many must've played a minimum of 3 Premier League matches this season?

I would tend to see it more as they've got a tough match coming up at the weekend against fellow top 4 challengers and don't want to risk adding more injuries to their already long injury list.

I think people are complaining about Spurs fielding a lesser side tonight because they were hoping/expectant of playing a tired side on Sunday so we can have the upper hand. I said it before when Mick McCarthy was getting bollocked for making 8 or 9 changes when he played against the Mancs - they have a squad and should use whoever they want for any given game.

We shouldn't have to rely on our opposition having tired legs to be able to win a game. As far as I'm concerned, Spurs are well within their rights to field squad members tonight and use their main eleven against us on Sunday.

I don't agree.  UEFA have ensured the Europa League is a practically pointless venture these days by allowing so many clubs into the champions league.  You could half the size of the champions league, half the size of the Europa League and you'd get two quality European competitions as opposed to one, both competitions with high viewing figures, both competitions which top players would want to play in and both competitions which clubs would take seriously.

I'd quite happily take a 1st round departure from the Europa league with our manager playing the under 18s if it guaranteed league success.

Its mostly some English clubs that don't take the competition seriously. Most European clubs see it as a good competition to play in.

The quality of the competition is underrated anyway. We were not good enough to beat Braga last season with an almost full strength side. City got knocked out by Kyiv fielding 'first team' players mostly.

Its the financial side of things that is underwhelming.

Flanaghan was big time at fault for Sunderland's leveller on the opening day.

His much older and more experienced colleagues manning the left-hand side of our defense (Jose Enrique, Downing and Adam) were also 'big time at fault'.

I'd play Flano. The kid is both good and fearless.

Carragher on the bench. Skrtel-Agger in CB. Jose Enrique at LB.
not really...next season he [Lucas Leiva] wont be here or he'll be here as bench warmer...mark my words

I'd like to see:

Reina

Kelly
Skrtel
Agger
Enrique

Henderson
Lucas
Adam
Downing

Kuyt
Suarez

Subs: Doni, Flanagan, Carragher, Spearing, Gerrard (Shelvey if not fit), Bellamy, Carroll

However, I expect to see Carragher start at CB instead of Skrtel, and Robinson on the bench instead of Flanagan (coz Skrtel will be seen as an adequate replacement for both CB and RB... I don't agree!)

Fingers, toes and testicles crossed!

Well.. you can't compare us playing a 'weakened' team with them playing an anonymous team. Besides the fact that we've won it 5 fckin times, we've been in it almost every year. Unlike them qualify for CL one, just one fuckin season (thanks to our catastrophic injury record that year) and now they pretend like CL is where they belong.

We have to win this.Especially after the Stoke loss.A loss here, and Arsenal will be breathing down our necks, and the top 3 would have a considerable lead over us.Spurs arent very strong this season, and we need to take advantage.
What is the United line-up?

Well.. you can't compare us playing a 'weakened' team with them playing an anonymous team. Besides the fact that we've won it 5 fckin times, we've been in it almost every year. Unlike them qualify for CL one, just one fuckin season (thanks to our catastrophic injury record that year) and now they pretend like CL is where they belong.

It's nothing to do with how many times we or they have won it (or not won it). It's none of our business who 'Arry decides to play in that competition. Let's just focus on ourselves instead of being holier-than-thou eh.

any team that Kenny puts out is expected to play to their best no matter who they are or who they play against! i think we will get a result out of this game and i do have an idea of the team id like to see but il be happy if we can get 3 points no matter what side is on the pitch come match day! COME ON YOU REDS!!!  :)

they did the double on us last season, it's time for us to get even this season.

sunday is going to be interesting, over in the states our game is at 8:30am, mancs v. chelsea is on 11am. so this means all morning at the bar. hopefully there will be some good football, at least if there isn't i'll be drunk by 1pm.  :P

my line-up would be:

reina
carragher---skrtel---agger---enrique
lucas---adam
bellamy---suarez---downing
kuyt

subs: kelly, carroll, coates, maxi, henderson, spearing, aurelio

2-1 to us, bellamy and suarez, adebayor for them
