To some, but for me never good enough for us, wish him well though.

To some, but for me never good enough for us, wish him well though.

The lad we have got playing at Left back now absolutely oozes class but a couple of years ago the Newcastle fans absolutely detested him. Stuart Downing was a laughing stock amongst Boro fans. Adam couldn't cut it at Rangers and Andy Carroll a couple of years ago was rated at £1m.

It happens players careers aren't linear they have peaks and troughs. Usually their lack of inhibition and lack of fear means they look better than they are initially and then when there youthful exuberance subsides their form drops off because of their lack of experience.

For me that's what happened with Insua, sadly we didn't give him the chance to recover instead we brought in a 3rd rate hasbeen in Koncheskey. I wonder what would of happened to Jose Enrique if Newcastle had of done something similar.
One thing does need to be said: in the post-Benitez era, there was media-led clamour (but also some politicking going on at the club) to make the club more English; the idea being that the club had lost the very essence of what it means to be ‘Liverpool’. Guillem Ballague 18/11/10

I wish the lad the best but like I say he just never really did it for me.

Insua went on a free.

That's the whole point though even Insua's biggest fan hasn't said he is definitely going to be a World star but none of us know how he will progress. Not only have we missed out on the £5m that Fiorentina were prepared to pay last season but we have also missed out on a sell on clause.

Instead we contributed to the Paul Koncheskey retirement fund.

Another I'm sorry to see go, especially on a free.  Probably for the best for him like but still reckon he could have made it here

He's been under some harsh treatment from Liverpool fans since he arrived in the first team. He possibly didn't get the chance he deserved. I still think he'll make it though. At the very least he'll have a decent career in the top leagues. I wouldn't be surprised to see him start at the next World Cup (maybe because his country are lacking in his position).

Best of luck in Portugal lad.

Shame it never worked out for him here. I think one of a few players seriously effected by the off the pitch activities. Torres got jittery when the new owners only bought some 'bad boy' from Uruguay. Insua was moved out for a 30 year old journeyman who, due to no fault of his own, was never good enough.

Hope it all works out for him. Good luck fella.

Emiliano Insua once told me he wanted to stay at Liverpool but Purslow wanted him out. Even Roy Hodgson wanted to keep him. True story.

#LFC sold Insua for £500k, re-signed Aurelio for 2 years & bought Konchesky for £4.5m plus two make weights. Top business.

Insua has played well for Sporting all year, even scoring quite a few goals. Including tonight.

Revisiting former players now they are doing well is pointless. Only pisses everybody off and we end up with a load of ''what could of been'' posts.

Glad Insua is doing well but at the same time he's not a Liverpool player.

Purslow is the ultimate example of the fan that nods in agreement to the musings of the sunday supplement sages, gets their tactical education from the minds of Le Tissier/Merson and readily accepts that the 606 caller is the voice of the ordinary fan.

Purslow took all this information and that he  knew it all.

He knew nothing

Purslow was a fool for wanting rid of him, but we had a chance to keep him when he came back from Galatasaray last summer. That Kenny or Comolli felt we'd be better off without him is not Purslow's fault. Big mistake in letting him to to Gala, and an equally bigger mistake not keeping him when he came back.

All I'm going to say is... it's going to take a long time for the dust to settle on the last few years and for us, as fans/supporters, to get over it. I hope an FA Cup can start putting it to bed. What a fucked up mess it all was.

Spot on. The more I think about, adding up all that has happend and the decision made, all looks like a very bad joke.

Insua? Would have come good for us and will end up at bigger club than Sporting at some stage.

We all can sit here with the benefit of hindsight and slate Purslow, but the fact is that the received wisdom from the majority of the media in the summer of 2010 was that the rubbish Benitez had brought to Anfield - Insua and Lucas being amongst the prime targets - was the reason we were struggling so much. Nothing to do with the governance vacuum and civil war playing out behind the scenes.

Much of our support bought this line when it was obvious that both were excellent prospects to anyoe with half an idea about football who took the trouble to actually watch them without prejudice.

The lesson isn't that Purslow, Hodgson or anyone else was a prick (though not saying they were or weren't). The lesson is watch the fucking player, make your own mind up, don't be scared to be ridiculed for having an opinion that deviates from Hawksby and Jacobs, and and don't be scared to defend a manager who is going through a bad time because of his bosses.

I'd say an excellent alternative mate rather than just cover. He's better on the ball than enrique and better going forward, would have made an interesting option against park the bus teams.

Not sure it was easy as that, for obvious reasons, and I know the lad never came out and said he wanted a transfer, but he was out of contract, could get himself a decent deal, we had never shown any inclination that he was wanted. You could even go back as far as Rafa when the club allowed a young player, p[laying regularly to get to the final year of his contract.

Have always thought he would go on to be a good player and think plenty of our fans were very quick to see weaknesses in a young player playing in essentially a struggling team with nightmares going on in th background.

Good fucken goal in any case
