of course the sending off helped, but it doesn't surprise me Raul was more effective in the central role off the striker, as opposed to his LW/LM cameo against Sunderland.

Enrique was terrific again! Great cross for Carroll's chance in the 1st half. the left channel of Enrique-Downing looks really promising.

50+% possession at the emirates against a team recognised for dominating possession.

Aye. I thought we'd see little of the ball today and expected to keep it tight for 60 mins or so and push a win in the last 3rd of the game. Was pleasantly surprised to see us commit numbers forward right from the off, even if a lot of the play broke down in the 1st half and didn't trouble Arsenal a great deal.

Also surprised at just how poor Arsenal were going forward themselves. Fair enough though, they missed Song and Wilshere. Both of those are good young players.

This fixture has been so fricking annoying in recent years - so good to finally get a deserved win!

Second game of the season, team still getting used to paying together... it's all about the points and trying to improve game by game. Regardless of who we play or the form of the team we're facing. Some great performances from Enrique, Kelly, Lucas etc and feeling pretty confident that the team will click into a very good unit over the coming weeks.

Suarez and Raul obviously made the difference and great to be able to bring them on as impact subs, even though in an an ideal world they would have started. Assuming it was a fitness thing for both of them - Raul hasn't exactly got a full pre-season under his belt - so not sure why some are talking as though they are not expected to start together in the future.

Good day today... bring on the next match! :)

Vermaelen and Agger - my dream CB pairing!

Since they are in such disarray. Maybe we can make a cheeky bid.

Would be wonderful to see them together. Proper ball playing centrebacks.

Don't want to start an argument on here, but he didn't look a happy bunny after either goal. The players were trying to calm him down and he looked massively pissed off with something.
Hope it wasn't aimed at the bench for him not starting this season.

I said exactly the same, he seemed riled by something.

hahahaha, gotta love Raul!

Even if he's doing it to the bench? Not saying he is, but it's as likely as him doing it to the ref / Arsenal player. He didn't look too happy.

Hoofing my arse!!!! Agger carried it out of defence on a number of occasions.  Kelly played very well and ran down the line beating players.  People have to learn to differentiate between good crosses/long accurate passes and Hoofing.  We played in triangles in midfield for a lot of that game, unlike "Barcenal" who got so desperate that they started giving every ball to Walcott to fuck up.

Have any of the Carroll haters thought that maybe it was his strength and movement that tired out the Arse defence?  Suarez and Meireles came on at exactly the right time to capitalise.

Fair enough Hendo and Adam drifted in and out but we are 2 games in.

I wonder if some of the posters were even watching us in the first half of last season.......this is a GREAT result!
Darren from Thetford............................FUCK OFF!

"Lucky Liverpool Edge Young Gunners..."

Yeah so lucky that Kelly's shot didn't hit the post.

So lucky that Atkinson saw Arshavin's two handed shove on Kelly and denied RVP a golden chance.

So lucky Carrol's header went in and didn't get saved.

So lucky Suarez's dink over Sczezny(sp?) went in as well.

The media never fail to amaze me with their crap.

Where to start? We got the 3 points and thats what matters but if anyone thinks that was a good performance like the skysports presenters do...oh my.

It was interesting to see the team without Suarez...just proved...we have the same issue as we do last season...without a torres or a suarez or gerrard to make anything happen we have no other players in the team to create genuine chances and be an attacking threat to the opposition.

Adam - did nothing for me today, poor set pieces too.

Downing - Good addition...the only one who seems like he can step up and do something as the season goes on.

Henderson - Looked afraid to have the ball at his feet...passenger....how Aquilani and Miereles are behind him in the pecking order is beyond me today.

Enrique - solid...does make a few errors but gets himself out of tricky situations with his pace and strength.

Carrol - I feel for the guy...in a team with good service the guy has a great head and a great left foot to score goals...he does need more mobile players around him to be effective though. If suarez is not on the pitch everyone else is too static.

Suarez - We'd be nothing without him at the moment. We definitely need to sign  another player of the suarez mould or some skillful flair players like Marko Marin or someone who can come in and add some Suarez magic because I really think Suarez will be Barcelona bound (as a David Villa replacement) within 2 seasons if he continues to play soo well.

Well we got the 3 points, not because of our own play but because of circumstance I feel. If the team needs time to "gel" we'll need a few more fortunate fixtures like this one.

Ha ha, you couldn't make it up.  2-0 away to Arsenal and these classics come out

Kenny tactics today were spot on. We dominated possession, passed it well, controlled the game, fashioned enough chances to win, brought on the right subs at the right time, and scored the goals to take all three points. There is nothing to complaimn about today - everything went to plan.

Abso-fuckin-lutely spot on Neil.

For those who love to nit-pick even after a good win, you might be better off looking at the players execution rather than how the team were set up.

Excellent performance against an albeit weakened Arsenal. Well in Kenny and the team.
"My coach told me to warm up just before the break. He told me I was going to take care of Kaka. I didn't think it was possible to turn things around but in the dressing room at halftime Rafa Benitez was calm - "We are Liverpool FC, we have so many fans, we are not going to be slaughtered. If we can score a goal quickly we push on from there.""

Delighted with the 3 points.  Dissapointed with the performance, we needed luck to beat a team who were vulnerable.

Carroll is not a Liverpool player, hope Im wrong but I just cant see him being a success. Doesnt have game intelligence or Football ability. Teams who rely on this type of player are usually average teams who rely on playing percentages.

Henderson was ok but unspectatculor. Im sure he will inmprove but cant see what he brings to the table at the moment. Raul and AA are far better players.

Adam, has a good left foot and I think he was brought as another way of feeding Carroll with dead balls and deep crosses, similar to Barton at Newcastle. However he seems to lack the mobility to be a top midfielder. Will be v usefull at home to lower teams though. eg Sunderland fre kick

Downing looks good

Enriqure was great

Henderson had 2 chances and came up okay, but I would prefer Kuyt or Meireles starting in place of him for crucial games. We have Downing and Adam for Carroll.  We need some players to support Suarez and his inventions.  Kuyt and Meireles are best for this purpose.  Henderson appears unused to the complicated pass and move triangles.  Of course, we should continue to break in Henderson  for 2-tier games and use Meireles/Kuyt in place of him in Man U/Manchester City, Chelsea, Spurs etc.  We should drop Carroll for odd games now and then to throw our opponent off.

But I am happy with overall performance (including Henderson as a whole) - workman like and limiting our opponents to very few attacks which is also what we need away from home.  My view is not a criticism of Henderson but trying to use our big bench to maximise our chance to win the league.

I can see them going into the Europa later this week.  Seem to have lost confidence alongside the departure of Fabregas and the imminent departure of Nasri.  Think if Wenger doesn't sign 2/3 good players they'll struggle to get top 4.

Anyone saying we hoofed it for 70 minutes before Meireles and Suarez came on clearly didn't watch the match, but heard Carroll was playing so we had to be hoofing it up to him, because we can't play any differently with him in the team

Ecstatic about the three points, and a good case can be made for Meireles to be in the starting eleven (one of our best players last year for me).  Agree that our play was static in the first half and our off-the-ball movement was not good, so fewer chances were created...

As for Carroll, two shitty calls by the officials in the last two matches would have probably changed a lot of this perception that he's not doing a good enough job.  Last week the "push" prior to his goal that was ruled out, and this week, another "push" on Koscielny before cushioning a header to Downing, who proceeded to smash it into the bottom right corner after the whistle (with his right foot, no less... I don't think Szczesny had a chance).

I agree that his movement isn't always so great (will it ever be vs. Suarez?), but I think when you combine his aerial ability and better service from players like Meireles (who very much feels like the missing link) and Suarez, you get the sense that he brings another dimension and will flourish under Kenny.

Meireles has to start against Bolton for me but who for? I known a lot of people will say Henderson but just because he wasn't playing through balls every 5 minutes dosen't mean he played bad because for me he linked up play very well in the attacking midfield area and always had an eye for a pass out to the wings where there was somebody free. Promising performance for a 20 year old.
