Football Manager 2012

21st October 2011.

http://www.sega.co.uk/fm2012/?t=EnglishUK

Game Information

Football Manager 2012 allows you to take control of any club in over 50 nations across the world, including all of the biggest leagues across Europe.

You’re in the hot-seat, which means you decide who plays and who sits on the bench, you’re in total control of tactics, team-talks, substitutions and pitch-side instructions as you follow the match live with the acclaimed 3D match engine allowing YOU to make the difference!

As the boss you’ll also have full control of team affairs away from the pitch:

Will you spend big-money on expensive superstars or put a focus on scouting for wonderkids?
How will you approach training & match preparation?
Will you be the chairman’s best friend or always demand the best investment from the board?
How do you react when a young star has problems – a shoulder to cry on or a clip round the ear?
And how will you deal with tricky questions from the media?

Now it’s time to put your opinions to the test.

New & improved key features for Football Manager 2012:

Manage Anywhere, Anytime – the ability to add or take away playable nations in your saved game as often as you want. Manage in that country at the start of the next season - meaning you don’t have to decide on which nations are playable at the start of your career.

Transfers & Contracts – significant changes to the transfer and contract systems, including loyalty bonuses, better implementation of amateur and youth contracts, an improved transfer centre and the ability to lock areas of the contract negotiation when you aren't prepared to budge. This helps you to manage your budgets and gives you flexibility in what you offer money hungry players, or agents, as incentives.

Scouting improvements – using several real life scouting reports, a new in-game report was devised which includes squad analysis, tactics information and information about goals scored and conceded alongside lots of other scouting improvements, giving you all the information you need to prepare before kick-off and throughout the season.

3D Match Improvements – new animations, a whole new crowd system, improved weather system, more stadiums, plus two brand new cameras - "Behind Goal" and "Director Cam" as well as all other camera angles being reversible - meaning you can watch and analyse every aspect of every game.

Intelligent Interface – a new adaptive layout system, which means the higher your screen resolution, the more info is easily at your fingertips. The new interface also contains new filters, customisable columns, a new tactics screen, and lots of new overview screens.

Tone – a whole new level has been added to team talks and conversations, with the new tone system, which allows you to specify the way you want to say things – be as cool as a cucumber by saying things calmly or throw tea cups around by saying things with passion. There are 5 different tones to choose from with specific comments per tone.

Brand New Tutorial – standing separate from the main game, a mode to help new players find their way around the game easily, whilst also offering tips to experienced managers on how to get the most out of the game, as well as a new in-game “how to” system.

On top of these key innovations, there are lots of areas of the game that have had huge improvements, such as the media system, press conferences, the youth system, newgens, the social networking options, friendlies, international management and many more which will be detailed in a series of video blogs over the coming months, alongside more information about Football Manager 2012.

On top of these key innovations, there are over 800 new features making huge improvements, such as the media system, press conferences, the youth system, newgens, the social networking options, friendlies, international management and many more which will be detailed in a series of video blogs over the coming months, alongside more information about Football Manager 2012.

A few screenshots, more on the link above.

Aside from a serious look at injuries what other features would people like to see? Personally I'd love to take control of a current manager rather than creating one every time. For example being Rafa and currently unemployed looking for a new challenge and perhaps one day returning to Liverpool? Would be too hard to put into the game surely?

Looking forward to this.

I like the new aspect of tones during team talks and the extra option, there isnt much else there though that im really looking forward too. Much improved graphics would be nice in the 3D mode.

Always get frustrated by Football Manager games - I tend to get them and wait until the fixes/updates are out before getting started on a proper game (often gets to December time!) but then when January comes and transfer start being made it feels like the games outdated - it's March before the updates are sorted and by then Summer transfers are starting to be heavily rumoured or even announced.

Wish FM was a subscription game instead - they released an overhaul every three or four years but regular fixes and updates which can be accepted or declined by each gamer.

Last time I properly played was Champ Manager 2001  :-[

Same here, except for the graphics. I think they're sufficient and the games look fine.

Two things I'd like to see are a.) more interaction with the players and b.) a much more detailed career-mode where you start as reserve-team coach and work your way up.

a.) It's just so frustrating to be dealing with players at the moment, because you cannot really "talk" to them. You can tell them they can't leave or you can tell them you'll put them up for sale. That's basically it. I would love it if it was a bit more detailed like really rallying them towards the end of the season when you're fighting for promotion or against relegation. At the moment, all you can do is wait for one of them to speak up. Another thing I can't stand is having unhappy players when taking on a new job, because the previous manager pissed them off. I'd love being able to tell them "The other guy didn't like you, but you'll get a new chance to shine".

b.) It would be great starting a career as Liverpool-coach being in charge of the U18s or reserves and then build up your reputation. Interacting with the actual manager (stuff like him telling you to play xy in a certain position and then asking what you think about that player, etc.) or stuff like that. In FM09 I tried playing with Barca B and it was dreadful, because at one point my best players (a majority of the squad) got transferred to the first-team and I couldn't use them, but they were getting splinters in their arse sitting in the stands. Add to that, that I had a transfer-budget, but buying players was always a gamble as some were available for selection and others went right into the first-team squad... ;)

It looks good, I like the new manage and team anywhere bit, because some computers aren't powerful enough to run all the nations at once (If you wanted to do that), so it would be good.

I did this by deleting Kenny from the database and starting a new game under the name Kenny Dalglish. I also changed my history (national apps, club apps, achievements) in the real time editor.

I like the new tone thing, it'll be good to be able to say things in a different way on the game.

I wish they'd do something about the training aspect though, for me the one now is far too complicated and not easy to use. I never get the best out of training and it's hard to bring through youth unless the players are in the first team squad and playing a few games to help them reach their potential.

I still wish there are aspects of the transfer market they should improve. For example, the ability to include players on loan as part of a permanent transfer deal and the ability to purchase more than one player in a single package deal. It would also be great if they could add rumours and interest in players from the fan forums. The latter would be annoying as hell, but realistic nowadays. Adding aspects of FFP into the game as soon as possible would also be much appreciated. It would be good re: the nations to manage in feature, if you could be offered jobs in another country without having to have that nation pre-loaded and then be able to simply swap over. Also, I've said it for ages, but having more comprehensive depth charts that measure positions at all levels of the team  as SEGA/SI did in their Eastside Hockey Manager game would be very welcome.

I'll settle for realistic transfers. If Barca want Suarez, they're not paying 14 fucking million, and they shouldn't walk away when I ask for 40. Not that I would have sold him, like.

Plus I'd like to be able to get rid of players, even if it means losing them on a free.
Its like if I called you a wanker, im not actually slagging you off for wanking, as i quite like to do that myself.

Personally i think this game needs some sort of achievement system, i get bored of playing my team after winning the league and champions league 3 or 4 times.

I just dont have the motivation to play after that if their were achievements it would increase the longevity of the game for me.

I would also like the option to start as under 18's/reserves manager i think that would be a good option being able to go to the boss and advise him to buy x player for the youth squad.

Some sort of kit design option would be good which maybe you had to unlock after a certain no of seasons or titles, looking at the same old strip 5 seasons on is a bit boring.

Also when you win the title you get like 5-6 messages saying oh well done blah blah blah.. it doesnt cut it for me i would like to see some sort of cut scene scenario where it runs you through the history of the club and trophies or something to that extent.

team songs would be another good idea, having a rendition of ynwa would be a great addition to the matches. champions league music for the champions league games.... presentation ceremony after the games ect ect.

I think they could it alot better they have been doing it for a while now.

Manage Anywhere, Anytime

FINALLY! I hate having to live with whatever I picked at the start. I wonder if it's possible to activate nations just as their newgens come up, buy the good ones, and dump it.

Hopefully the new team talk system will cut down on stupid shit happening. When I talk to players and praise them about half the time they argue with me and if I pick the wrong response they go off and have a sulk.

"I think you played well!"

"How can you say that? I HATE YOU!"

Sounds promising. All the scouts tell you is whether or not he's a good player, not what the hell I'm supposed to do with him.

I'd settle for simple finishing fine tuning. I've lost count of the times I've pulled my hair out because a striker is through on goal shoots from 35 yardds out

Or when they can square the ball so the striker can score an open goal but decide to shoot and hit the keeper or miss.

The final nail in the coffin for me was when I played 3 matches in a row with Liverpool. Final Premiership fixture of the season, FA Cup final and CL final. All 3 matches were absolutely dominated. 25~ attempts on goal, 6-7 CCC's and 60% possession in all of them each. Lost all of them 0-2. Fuck off.

I had the best strikers in the world and they ALWAYS fluffed it when they were through on goal. That's just infuriating.

And another thing I want, is in-game interaction with players. If a player fucks up and the motivation thingy shows "lacking confidence" or if a player is complacent you should be able to call him over and tell him either that he shouldn't worry about it or to get his shit together or he's benched next game.

Can't wait to set the tone to fucking pissed off and have a go at my players for losing 1-0 to fucking WBA at home.

Hope they improve AI in this one as well, it seems to me after 5-6 years the opposition managers just seem to all turn retarded and make really stupid buys for incredibly high transfer fees, once you have bought up a bunch of top class youth it all gets a bit too easy.

Indeed. You can either wait for half time if it's the first half or sub him. Touchline shouts should go beyond tactical and extend into "Oi! What the fuck are you doing?".

Remember when Kenny pulled aside Flanno after he twatted Carra and knocked him out? That's what Football Manager needs, especially the pulling players aside.

Definitely. Or being able to send certain players to warm-up as a warning sign for certain players on the pitch. The whole team-talk/motivation stuff should be improved. I just can't stand the way it is now. After half-time you almost always see who got the team-talk right and who didn't. First team to have a scoring chance wins the game most of the time. It's boring... ;)

One thing I would like to see in future versions of this game is a slight amendment to the Offer to Clubs feature. Considering many clubs now inform an unwanted player's agent that their services are no longer need  and for the agent to shop the player around, it would be good, if perhaps you could have the option of either offering the player to clubs by yourself, or requesting an agent to shop around his client. Basically you could inform the agent of how much you wish to sell the player for and negotiate a percentage of the transfer fee as a commission. It might make it easier to shift to some players that way and give a bit more incentive for some of them to leave.

I think the director of football should have a role now. Tell him who you want and let him go off and do his thing. Maybe daily reports back to the manager of how he is getting on and how negotiations are going. Of course with the option of stepping in yourself and negotiating the price/contract but it would be a nice option.

They have to fix the team talks/motivation. The amount of times a team will play so poor based on the 'wrong' choice of team talk is unbelievable. They seem to have a much bigger effect on matches than tactics or player ability.

I've got 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11 and will be getting 12. But somehow I never pay a lot for it, don't think I've ever paid over £30 for an FM game. I agree with you when you say its updates basically but there are always some nice new features. It's like FIFA, not much changes but you still go and get it anyway just because its the new one out.

1) That's pretty cheap, I might pre-order from there too. Thanks for putting the link up.

2) It says under the price "Delivery: This is a digital code. The code will appear in the "download" tab in the "my account" section." So yeh you just use the code and activate it.

I for one carn't wait for this one. The last couple of games I had gone off it a little but 11 has really hooked me. When playing 11 I forget all time and end up playing like I did when the first game came out all those years ago.

I will end up buying this on (or very close to) release day again. But I really hope, like I do every year, that there will be significantly less bugs than the last few releases. Last year didn't last 3 days without being patched as I remember (twice for the Russian version).
