Going to a place called Cabo Roig in the Summer......it's near Torrevieja. Anyone been? We've never tried here before!
Got flights on the day they came out last year and for all 6 of us was only £450 flying from Manchester to Murcia.
Booked a villa type place off Holiday Rentals which was a bargain for 3 bedrooms.

Haven't done a package holiday for 10 years now. Love to chill out of a night whilst the kids are in bed.

never been to the place you mentioned but spent a lot of time in the general area as my parents own a house about 15 mins north of torrevieja (think you're about the same distance to the south?).

the night market in torrevieja is good and there's plenty of restaurants and bars about, it's not crazy on night life either (no drunks stumbling about at all hours) so a pretty child friendly place. there's also a carnival there which i think i permanent throughout the summer months. some decent shopping there too.

if you can get to alicante try go to alicante castle.

there's also a place up in the mountains about 2-3 hours drive away depending on which side of torrevieja you're on (that was years ago though, i'm sure with the new motorways it'll be quicker now), called guadalest. it's an old castle/fort kind of thing with a little tourist village and some restaurants. nice day trip and if you leave early enough in the morning you can have lunch overlooking the valley (google it) then stop off at the drive through safari just outside benidorm on your way back, which i'm sure the kids will enjoy.

umm... guadamar is a nice little seaside city which is pretty authentic and every summer they hold the moors and christians parade there with a massive fireworks display. about 30 mins drive from torrevieja.

villa martin is over on your side of torrevieja i think. good for some grub and a drink... it's an urbanización with a golf course and the main part is a massive courtyard 3 stories high full with restaurants and bars.

there's plenty of other things to do but that's just off the top of my head. if you don't have a car or transport then i apologise for wasting your time and please disregard my post :D

Thanks for replying.........we are looking into getting a car for a few days (depending on how much). We are close to Villa Martin but we're nearer the beach.
We will deffo do some day trips and we've been looking at the safari you mentioned. Gonna go to the waterpark in Torrevieja which the kids love doing.
We're about 10 minutes south from Torrevieja so we will visit there. It's easier this year as our youngest will be 3.  With having a big age gap between the eldest (nearly 15) and the youngest it's hard to find somewhere which appeals to everyone. Cabo Roig has loads of family bars, restaurants and bars with live bands apparantly. We can only give it a try!
Having your own place is fab tho coz the little ones can get some sleep whilst the older 2 can watch dvd's etc whilst we're chilling. It's on a private complex so the kids can still make friends round the pool. I couldn't do a private villa........the kids would end up sick of eachother!
I think more people than ever are doing their own holiday rather than using a travel agent.....I'd recommend it to anyone.

no worries.

if you're thinking about the safari then definitely have a look at guadalest too cus they're not that far apart and you can kill two birds with one stone. i've been to guadalest 3 or 4 times when i was between the ages of 8 and 20 and have never found it boring once so it's definitely one for all ages. if you do go to the safari though please let me know how it is cus i haven't been yet and i'm off there this summer hopefully to see my parents (who have retired there now) and was looking into doing it as well.

there's loads of go-karts tracks in the area around villa martin for the 15 year old as well by the way.

i'm sure all the touristy places in alicante are very similar (from my own experiences) so it'll be great for kids all ages and everywhere is really family orientated - i wouldn't worry about that at all. we always stayed in my parents place which is a stand alone villa but never had any trouble making friends at the pool table when we were younger as it was always packed with kids in the bars at night. infact i still speak to and meet up with some of them now over 15 years later. i'm getting all nostalgic now, had some great times there over the years.

let me know if i can help with anything :D

Thanks mate.......really appreciate it. It's hard trying somewhere new. Last year we went to Cyprus coz that's were my mum and dad live but the flight prices are ridiculous! We've got a 3 bed villa and flights for 3 weeks to Cabo for what a couple of flights alone to Cyprus would be!
Before that we went to Benalmadena twice which is nice.
We've got a 15 year old girl and 12 year old boy who are company for each other. They like similar things (adventure) The go-karts would be good for them, and the hubby. Whilst killing each other here they're pretty good company for each other whilst we're away. When we go the waterparks they can go off together to enjoy the day.
We like to do a boat trip as well. I know there is a small Marina in Cabo but I think we'll have to go to Torrevieja if we want a big trip.
Just been looking at the Safari.....how far is Rio Elche from Torrevieja? If that is where the safari is!
Thanks for your help

elche is closer than the one i was told about up near benidorm. it'll probably be about an hours drive north for you and there's a few places you can stop along the way... i know there's a huge market in santa pola some mornings and guardamar is also along the way depending on which route you take (i think the new motorway will take you directly to elche so it could be less than an hour though). i think i've actually been to the one in elche a long time back and it wasn't a drive through one but i'll double check on that for you before i tell you that it was a bit of a let down haha.

i don't really know about boat trips but we've been out fishing on a boat from torrevieja before and caught a fish every 5 mins for about 4 hours so that's an option if you're into fishing, they also have some big game fishing out there too. i know there's also a few dive sites off torrevieja and a few dive shops on the off chance that you're divers.

Cheers for all the help mate.
Now looking on Google Earth at all the bars and restaurants near by..........no doubt we'll be away for the start of the season and will need a good pub with us on!

There is another safari further north which I think you might be on about. The one I said hasn't got good reviews. We're not fussy tho so could still be an option. The kids are easy breezy laid back type kids and will give anything a go. They've already said they want to go Go- Karting after me telling them what you said.
The older 2 did diving last year in Cyprus.....not for me, you don't know what is swimming with you in the open water!!!

The older 3.....the other 1 will be 7 when we're there (lucky cow has never had a Birthday at home) all love watersports. We're hoping the local beaches will have your pedalos, banana boat etc. 2 of them did paragliding together last year and loved it.

Coz we rent place with a bbq we tend to save loads by eating in a lot and letting the kids do activities. They're happy with that and we get to chill out.

We've been told Torrevieja is only 10 minutes away on the bus and the better restaurants are there. The nights we eat out we'll probably head that way.
You've given us loads of help mate, so thanks for that. Anything else you can think of would be great.

Off on a Med cruise next Sunday for 11 days. Some destinations I haven't been to before, including:

Vigo
Gran Canaria
Madeira
Oporto
La Palma

Med cruise? Someone's taken a wrong turn somewhere!

Just back from 10 days on the Costa del County Antrim. The last few days have been amazing weather wise. Sun was shining loads, pretty chilly obviously but out of the breeze and with the sun on the face it was lovely. Came back from there with more colour than I did from a week in Lanzagrotty last summer and far less stress in terms of keeping the kids occupied. My 3 year old in particular had a ball just playing on the beacj and chucking stones into the sea. Cheaper than Disneyland!

Got loads booked up this year, and looking for any recommendations!!

Starting with Dubai this Saturday as a work incentive trip.  4 of us stopping at The Atlantis - need somewhere to watch the WBA game if anyone knows of anywhere?  We're booked half board, so food isn't an issue but looking for some recommendations on bars/lounges/clubs. We're there until Wednesday.

1 weeks golf holiday early July in Albufeira with the boys - carnage!!!

2 weeks relaxtion with the wife & kids in Mazarron, Spain in August - cannot wait for this one!!

5 nights in Macua with the boys in October (2 nights golfing at Mission Hills and 3 nights at The Venetian Macua) - any recommendations here are gratefully accepted!!

Got to try and shoe horn a trip in with the wife for our 10yr anniversary in September as well.

May be having a week in Switzerland - just need to sort flights out as we will be staying in an apartment owned by a family friend. Thinking about it - currently saving for our wedding (April 2013) so it will be handy not having to pay for an expensive holiday.

HaHa Just noticed your CT, that's rather clever  ;D

Anyway, back on topic, I'm sailing a yacht along the Turkish coast line from Bodrum Marina in August.

Hello mate.

I booked it with a local yachting agent, its cheaper than the corporates (Sunsail etc..).

We've been sailing (me and the family) around the Greek Isles and Turkey for the last ten years or so.

It's great fun but you have to be qualified or they wont let you charter a yacht.  Although you can hire a yacht/skipper deal.

If you're interested pm me and I'll send you all the details.

We're sailing a 45 foot Yacht, (three bedrooms, two bathrooms, quite civilised) around Turkey and the Isles in August. We spend the day sailing and in the evenings arrive at a little island where we moor and go ashore for dinner in the local restaurants/bars.
