I cant wait for Agueros first words...something like "its a dream, they are a big club, yadda yadda, yabba dabba dooo"

And then he'll need to check for what club he has actually signed for.

Im sure he will be devastated if he ends up winning stuff too

LOOL.

That article has no clue. The highest earners are Yaya and Tevez both of whom are well above 200K a week. Even Barry is on 120K.

Unless of course, they mean 140-150 AFTER TAX

Because the papers tell you Yaya and Tevez are on 200k a week? Even though when asked if he was on 200k a week Yaya laughed and said 'I wish!'

That would be £10m a year. Our wage bill is high but it would have to be £200m per year if you believed all the figures. It's not, by some distance.

The latest figures showed that our wage bill is a similar amount as those challenging for the title, something we aim to do and that reflects in the wage bill.

All thats left to do is the small matter of increasing the revenue into the club, thats a slow process, let's see how the CL goes.

I must admit i find it funny how people believe the press when using it as a stick to beat other teams with, but then doubt it when it quotes prices Liverpool pay etc

Chelsea and utd are hardly going to fall away and the champions league requires luck and hoping barca get knocked out, they could go another 2-3 seasons without winning any of the 2 major trophies despite their ridiculous spend, if aguero wanted guaranteed success well the only club in the last 5 years thats done the business in england would be man utd as much as we hate that.

We'll pick him up for a cut price £20m in a season or two when City are chasing their next shiney so I dont know why everyone's so down.

Yeah and try and talk him into dropping his wages by about £50k a week.

I understand why people would like to believe the figures, we have an owner spending vast sums of money on the football club.

No doubt our wage bill is up there with united and chelsea's now though so we have no excuse but to challenge for the title.

I just hope we can cope with CL + League, since its our first time in the competition.

A Club who prob cannot afford him, with a manager on the blink....

Going to City is different now, they have the money, they have the squad and they have Champions league football.

The United squad that got to last years final was no great team, and prob the worst to win the prem in many a year.

When Liverpool won the CL in 2005 they were not the best team.

City are building something, and the money is allowing them to do it quickly.

With some of the good young players they have, Aguero, Johnson, Dzeko and Silva, looks quite a menacing forward line.

Personally I think they go into the league campaign with a healthy chance, and will no doubt be in the mix in April. How they deal with that then will be what makes them, and what in the past has made United.

Remember at the start of a season, no team are guarenteed to win things, but just like there are those that think Liverpool can win the prem this next season, and there are some, there are more that believe City could, and with Aguero and a few others, I may well be one of them.

Are we a plastic club now we've got a bit more wedge to spend? Are we all that's wrong with modern football because we're foreign owned? A lot of the shit you can throw at the 'new' man city you could probably throw at us.

Because NESV have invested money into a few young players? Totally different to going around buying an entirely new team every season, based on who the flavour of the month is, using a very deliberate tactic of inflating the value of the market into a totally nonsensical, meaningless abstraction so that only the billionaire boys' elite can afford players - and then complaining when the players prefer to see out their ridiculous contracts rather than leave the club. City have no real transfer policy - they just pursue their shiny new toys, blow every other club out of the water, play him for a few matches and then move on to the next player that takes the Sheikh's eye. The two could not be less comparable.

We have only spent money because of the serious gaps of quality in the squad. We have the branding, the global fanbase and the sponsorship power to justify such spending, especially when the complete lack of intelligent investment (or even investment AT ALL) for years and years and years has hampered our ability to succeed.

Please dont suggest buying the likes of Silva, Tevez and Aguero and flavour of the month type signings. They are world class players.

And Silva isn't a world class player, but he is very good.

Stuff like this makes me bang my head against a wall. Aguero clearly wants Champions League football.

Not to mention that Aguero will be in triple Carroll's wages.

Also, Carroll will score more than Aguero next season.

This is only the inevitable taking place. The sheikh wasnt about to pack his bags after winning the FA cup. And while it will make our task of getting back to the top that much harder, knowing that they will not stop until they have knocked the Mancs and whisky breath off our perch does soften the blow someone what I suppose.

Wheres the bitterness and jealousy? What i see is a resentment in what City are doing, like Chelsea before them, making the transfer market a mockery and ruining the modern game, if its not already ruined. You can say what you like about manning up and the likes, but theres no getting away from the fact that these manoevres are ruining the game in the long run. Because of the astronomical and frankly absurd wages and transfer fees being thrown around you've got players willing to jump ship at the slightest wiff of a bigger paypacket, agents doing their uptmost to get moves and clubs, players and managers doing their best to unsettle using any form of action at their disposal, AND from clubs that are not necessarily smaller either.

Theres simply no respect in the game.

The whole market is nuts and out of control. But dont worry about Fifas new rules, teams will get round it one way or another.

You don't rate Mancini?

I read an article recently about how Man City are well advanced in the 'statistics' side of things and that the numbers have a huge influence over who they sign.

Maybe their approach is a little less scattergun than people think.

The whole Carroll/Aguero thing is tiresome and bollocks really. Its the sort of shite Mancs come out with to try and wind us up.

Aguero;

Wants Champions League football, we dont have it
Earns crazy money and would have had to have taken a pay cut to come here
Wasn't available when we needed a striker in January.

Carroll;

Sees LFC, even out of Europe, as a step up.
Earns half of what Aguero will be after/on, if not even less then that.
Was available in January.

Yes Aguero is a very talented player, but he was never an option for us. Carroll was.

You're probably right. The issue is with getting back into the Champions League places of course. I know games aren't won on paper, but on the face of it, it's going to be one hell of a task to force our way back into the top four given the squads of our competitors. While we have signed some good players, I'm not sure they will be enough to make up the gap. Getting into fourth past Arsenal is I guess our best chance.

No.

Who's is then?

But do they have the best manager and attitude (as a squad) to go with that talent?

I have my doubts.

Bit harsh on Mancini there, I like him and he's got the defensive side sorted, work on their attack this season and they are on paper a good side

They do. So what if Carroll isn't fast as fuck or got a fancy name, or can do skill all match. He's going to scare the shit out of defenders next season and create a shed load of chances for Stevie, Charlie, Luis, Stewart etc.

Same thing happened with Chelsea.

Exact same thing.

Instead of people whinging, concentrate on supporting your own side, not getting your fucking nags in a twist and having silly goes at Man City.

Hows that his fault? If there was no match fixing whats to say that he wouldn't have won it anyway?

And he has done better than Redknapp, clearly.

In what way is it clear that he's done better than Redknapp ? He's finished above Redknapp once in the league

How much bigger is Man City's transfer budget ? And all they've got to show for it is 1 FA Cup.

This thread is laced with it, as is most other Man City threads.

Same thing happened with Chelsea.

Exact same thing.

Instead of people whinging, concentrate on supporting your own side, not getting your fucking nags in a twist and having silly goes at Man City.

Why does it bother you so much? So people are having a go, fine. It's only City.

I was just pointing out he probably didn’t know who were City were as recently as 2 or 3 years ago. It’s amazing how quickly things move when you have a bottomless pit. I’m not jealous, I’d still fancy our chances against them although I think with their depth the head says they’ll be pushing Chelsea and United in the top 3 this season.

To be honest, if we don’t win it next season I wouldn’t mind them doing so. It’s infinitely preferable to United of course and Chelsea to for that matter.

In what way is it clear that he's done better than Redknapp ? He's finished above Redknapp once in the league

How much bigger is Man City's transfer budget ? And all they've got to show for it is 1 FA Cup.

He's had one full season and he finished above Redknapp. Won a trophy and probably the only thing he did badly in, was the Europa League last season. His mandate will have been to finish in Champs League spot and he achieved it.
