The Optimist, The Ultimate Realist & The Pessimist
« on: July 14, 2011, 05:43:28 PM »
Bit of a shite thread, but I'm just wondering what you guys are expecting for the season ahead as things stand.I'd like 3 predictions from each of you if you can

Optimist: Your realistically optimistic prediction
Realist: Your completely honest prediction
Pessimist: Your prediction of how things can go wrong within reason

My predictions:

O: 4th place, with us squeezing Arsenal out of that 4th place spot and winning a 3-way battle between ourselves, Spurs and Arsenal
R: 5th place, with us and Tottenham fighting it out to overtake Arsenal, but neither of us quite managing it
P: 6th/7th place, a disappointing start as our players adapt to one another and a failure to make up for those poor early results

Mine,

O: Top 3,
R: 4th-6th place,
P: 7th-8th place.

I'd be very, very satisfied with a CL spot. This is a season for rebuilding.
He's a big-headed, boring, talentless, guileless, clueless, finger sniffing, face rubbing, 4-4-2 playing, bullshitting, media loving, Ferguson noshing, clunge rocket of a man, and I fucking love being smalltime when it comes to saying so.

I see this as a rebuilding season but I'm optimistic that without European competition we can do a proper title tilt, especially considering how last season turned out in terms of how the mancs won it

I think it will be interesting to see if Dalglish places a priority on obtaining any trophy such as the FA cup or League cup along with the bread and butter which is the league.

O - 2nd and a Cup
R - 4th
P - 5th

What's realistic about predicting us to finish outside the top 4?

We all moaned about how shit the league was last year, with no midweek fixtures in far off lands and a much improved squad compared to the one Kenny had 2nd in the form table, why is top 4 not likely?

Chelsea have a new manager and are missing Essien while their squad gets even older, Arsenal look to be imploding entirely, and City have the CL to deal with (along with away PL fixtures after every group stage match)

O: Title winners. It was a weak league last year and had we not sacked rafa or hired kenny from the beginning I whole-heartedly feel we would seriously run the mancs close. Kenny has a better squad now then rafa ever had.
R: 2-3
P:4th. I honestly cannot imagine a scenario where we do not finish in the top 4. 5th place would be absolutely devastating to me.

Chelsea have a new manager and are missing Essien while their squad gets even older, Arsenal look to be imploding entirely, and City have the CL to deal with (along with away PL fixtures after every group stage match)

Essien was out for half of their 2010 winning season. Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas might be a new manager but does that really mean that they would drop out of the top 4. I am sure Chelsea did not win anything in Carlo's first year at Stamford Bridge.

I won't be worried if I was a City fan about CL play. Their team is deep and they have "decent" players even at back-up. Europa League scheduling as we saw last season is even worse. Also doesn't that mean United, Chelsea and Arsenal are in the same manner also screwed?

Arsenal is our best chance at top 4 because their squad is young and prone to losing their composure with pressure. However, if they can manage to keep Cesc and Nasri (or replace them with a Mata-like player), their talent level is as strong if not better than ours.

O - Top 3
R - 4/5
P - Top 7

I think anyone predicting that Aston Villa or Everton can possibly beat us when they have half the revenues would imply a level of incompetence from both our owners and our manager that would defy my belief.

Realistically if we have made decent progress across the board we should beat Spurs and I will be disappointed if we dont.

To come 4th I think we need an unexpected implosion from one of the top 4. It is possible it could happen with either Chelsea or Arsenal led by Wenger's mental breakdown. I am expecting us to have fully recovered and be seriously talking trophies in 3 years.
