Why would they? Players go over easily like Ben Arfa did all the time, when they're going nowhere. Carroll's dive was fucking stupid and senseless, all he had to do was tap it in.

The ball gets caught under Carroll's feet, so he anticipates the keeper palming it or his foot, and instead of trying to gain control of the ball again, he decides to make a meal of the touch from the keeper that never comes. He'd have probably fallen over trying to control it anyway.

South American commentators are usually unimpressed by this, they take it as a part of the game and quickly move on.
That's why I was interested in hearing the English commentators. I had the impression they made a big deal out of players diving (i.e: Suarez).
But in those cases they didn't sound bothered, did they?

With the Carroll one at first (as did I) that it was a penalty. But when shown replays they agreed it was a dive. The Ben Arfa one was just ignored. There was the slightest bit of contact. Not enough to make him go down like that though.

Pardew's got them playing like a bunch of fannies. Hope they get a reality check next season when all their best players are poached.

Your right mate very sad. Put into context though dig out his resignation speech (1st time round) look at his face and how ill he looks the strain of Hillsborough and the after shocks were clearly to much.

lets not forget the man deserves, no has earnt our respect. He does not deserve the amount of abuse and disrespect that he has been served up. Not because he was the greatest player we ever had, but because he was the greatest MAN we ever had. His handling of the Hillsborough disaster nearly cost him his own life.

His love for the club, fans and people of the club holds no bounds, It is our honour to have had him at our club
