Que the "Hitler finds out Fabio is injured again"!

Just like Kieron Dyer, cannot seem to play a game without getting injured.

I feel exceptionally sorry for Aurelio. Rolls-Royce of a player when fit, but isn't physically able to compete for more than half a season without getting injured. I could see him taking the Martin Laursen route of early retirement sooner than later, which like when Laursen had to quit due to injuries will be a real shame.

Half a season?  I would take 2-3 games but he can't even do that.

He made 14 league appearances in both 09/10 and 10/11. Just under half. Never can seem to do many in a row, though. Someone needs to break out whatever magicks we used to keep him fit in 08/09.

To rate someone who`s spending 95% of their time in the physo-room during a season is simply lowering the standards of this club. He is a decent left back but nowhere near top 10 in the PL. Having said that, Im also sorry for his injuries ofcourse but he shouldn`t be a part of our future plans anymore.

If he doesn't elect to go the Martin Laursen route, and if we are paying him a set wage, we ought to go the Ledley King route for the remainder of his contract.  It seems he's just as likely to injure himself in training as in a match... maybe he could be kept at a high enough level of fitness to still be handy as a substitute by spending more time on the exercise bikes and in the pool... I know that aint match fitness but it's not like he plays matches anyway.

"Liverpool are currently anxiously waiting the test results regarding a freak injury sustained by left-back Fabio Aurelio whilst playing football with his family.

The 29-year-old was merely knocking the ball around in his garden when he suffered a serious injury that has already ruled him out for the start of the Reds' Premier League campaign"

July 2009.

proves that he doesnt just get injured playing a match or training..

Harsh indeed. There's two threads on the guy, he's been a Liverpool player for 5 years, is sublimely talented, completely contradicts the perceived wisdom on "match fitness" and when he plays he's a perfect case study for what a top quality LB is. So I'd say yes.

Look, he's in his last season, and you can sneer all you like but I for one hope he can go out on a high and contribute to our push for a CL spot once we get down to the business end of the season. If anyone is deserving of that considering the shit hand he's been dealt by fate, it's Fabio.

Don't be soft. That unqualified Serbian quack?! It was a fucking embarrassment that Waller/Rafa used her "services", and those players who were "magically" healed such as Riera and Benayoun, mysteriously broke down a couple of weeks later. Funny that.

Can't really agree. The question here is - How much can he really broke down by himself? Like the time he where away for months after playing football with his/his brothers kids in the backyard? There is something here that we don't know/understand I guess - He have so many times telling us that "Now I will be back!" "Less games will benefit me!" "Previous injury had nothing to do with this" etc. I honestly thinks hes known for years that his body never will work as a footballer anymore and thats sad. But still, he wants his paycheck as everybody else.

It was just tongue in cheek.  I don't remember Yossi and Riera breaking down after a couple weeks though.  Not saying it didn't happen, I just don't remember it at all.  Not that it's important, like.

Yeah well, tongue in cheek or not, I've seen people refer to it in all seriousness. It was 'practices' like that epitomised the incompetent medical team headed by Waller at the time.

so was giving him a 2(?) year contract last summer a good decision?

he's given a few classy performances in that time , but has had at least 4 spells of injury (not incl the current one, if true).

i presume he means the 're-signing' of aurelio was a disaster... which is closer to the truth what with all the leftback shenanigans last summer

He made 14 league appearances in both 09/10 and 10/11. Just under half. Never can seem to do many in a row, though. Someone needs to break out whatever magicks we used to keep him fit in 08/09.

570 minutes last year in the league over 14 games. That's 41 minutes per appearance, or 6.33 full games of 38. In 2 of our league games last year (Arsenal away, Mancs home) he came off before half time. Year before he had 653 minutes.

To be fair he appears in no where near half of our league games. And it looks even worse on a per minute basis.

The football manager wannabe gave him the contract.

I thought Rafa was harsh to give him a pay as you play contract but then checking the avg number of games he played for us, it made sense...

Maybe that football manager wannabe didn't have access to wikipedia...

Such a waste of talent. Easily one of the top left backs in the league when he played. Him and Agger side by side was a thing of beauty. If only it wasn't usually in the treatment room.

Disaster is clearly harsh but its fair to say that with hindsight we'd probably have moved on long ago had we any idea how disruptive his injuries were to be.

On his day he's very good but those days are too few and far between.

Who would we have moved onto? We've been looking for another LB for years, Fabio or not. We've gone through Dossena, Insua and *gold help us* PFK in the process. Not like we've been solely reliant on Fabio is it?
