Robinson to me seems a bit too green yet, but looks a talent. A double shame that we can't get 1 more season for Fabio due to his unreliability. Because I don't think Robinson is that far away from challenging Enrique as a back-up.

Would love to see Fabio play one last game for us.

If Fabio is fit, he should play.

Enrique is a joke of a defender, who uses his pace to make up for awful positioning and a lack concentration.

Enrique up until recently has been one of our best signings this year. Fucking behave.
I remember years ago doing the fart with your fingers pointed like a gun.

I did it to my brother, I had a dressing gown on.

Instead of farting I shat on the floor - my brother thought I was demented.

This has been a good day for the Ignore list.

As for signing another defender, id say it depends heavily on how fit we are expecting GK, Kelly to be, as I'd be more than happy with GJ being an emergency LB when Enrique and Robinson are unavailable, providing this doesn't mean were relying on Flanno to play week in week out at RB.

I would have liked to see him have a few games with Carroll on the pitch, it's getting less likely now but his left foot is incredible. Wish he could teach Enrique about crossing and how the ball doesn't need to go 40 metres up in the air every time, only real flaw in Enrique's game though apart from the reluctance to release the ball.
Where once we watched the King Kenny play, and could he play.

I always thought he lacked a bit of courage but then it's not hard to understand how a man who has injured himself playing with his kids in the back garden may not put his body on the line in every tackle

Lovely footballer, I just can't be sad about a guy who has barely played for us leaving. No hard feelings, hope he finds a new club and can enjoy a few injury free seasons before he retires.

Good luck Fabio

I'd be on edge if I saw anyone else playing left back, thats a position we've struggled with for a long while and finally we've found the man.

Great player, shame about all the injuries. Would it be possible to keep him on a straight pay-as-you-play contract and have a Ledley King situation where he only plays when fit? Would give Enrique some rest from time to time and keep too much pressure building up on Robinson (who has also had his injuries this year, mind). Not too confident with the only natural left backs in the squad being one experienced and a youngster.
If he was Dudek would've saved it...and there would be no film.

They can have me on a pay as you play basis if they like ha.

It's a struggle to find any decent left backs natural ones may I add, such a rare breed.

Regardless of whether or not we choose to pay attention to Bascombe, the info about Aurelio is, at worst, hardly the wildest stab in the dark.

It's a shame that we're likely to lose such a talented player this summer but, as has been mentioned earlier in the thread, we're just not benefitting enough from that particular asset.

This raises a good point - even at a time when you could argue that we'd benefit from using Aurelio at left back and giving Enrique a breather, we're so low on options in midfield/wide that we need the security of a cotton wool-wrapped Aurelio sitting on the bench and ready to deputise.

I'm sure his Anfield career has been very frustrating but we shall all remember Fabio fondly - he was an important figure in the best Liverpool side I've ever seen and gave us/was part of many highlights during Rafa's tenure.

The question of whether we replace him (via the market) or not is interesing.  We've obviously not seen much of Robinson this season but Flanagan never fails to impress me - if you consider him as third choice right back and Johnson and Kelly as able deputies for Enrique on the left, then I think we may as well save our pennies, trust in the five full backs we've got, and let Flanagan and Robinson rack up some important game time in the cup competitions before Christmas - if we get an injury to a senior and/or development isn't quite as anticipated, then we can investigate the market during January.

Fucking class player. When fit, one of the best LBs in the world. Shame his injuries have been such an issue. Says something that the person who brought him here was the same person who knew it was the end of the road for him and let go of him.

He is defensively decent, but in attack, he is just brilliant. Fantastic with the ball at his feet and I might get slated for this, but I'd say he would be better than Adam in the centre of midfield. All hypothetical, of course, because of Fabio's injury problems.

Enrique is a joke of a defender, who uses his pace to make up for awful positioning and a lack concentration.

I wish people would stop living in a fantasy world and realise that Enrique isn't a great defender. Although saying he is a joke of a defender is exaggerating it, Enrique's best atrributes are his physical assets. Many times this season he has look inept playing against someone who is faster than him (There must only be 4-5 in the league to be honest) and he lacks the brain that Aurelio has who (when fit) is a heck of a defender to beat. He's nowhere near as quick or strong as Enrique, but his positioning makes up for what lacks physically.

Enrique has been a great signing but his form has dropped off so it's easy to be critical of him now, many were lauding him as the best LB and signing of the season when the season started.
Keep it simple.

Off the top of my head:
Adam Johnson looked better than Jose in one of the 4 games against City (Don't remember exactly which one)
Antonio Valencia
Theo Walcott got into dangerous positions in the loss at home.
Hatem Ben Arfa embarassed him several times too.

There have been small moments in which he's made stupid decisons but his overall good performance overshadowed the bad moments.

not enough to make any deep impression on me, if what you said was conclusive.

The small gripe i do have is the tendency to allow crosses to come in. That said, i think he's very good. Maybe he can also use the ball better at times, but we do really have a very very good full back.

No doubt he's an excellent full back but he does struggle against players with pace and trickery. Also can be erratic when in the attacking third but I actually like Enrique a lot! He's a solid LB but he's not as good as some make him out to be, nor as bad. I'd worry when he starts to get older and loses his speed but it's okay, we have Robbo for that ;)

i think you are a tad harsh on the lad. Every single full back gets skinned. If you have a very quick player running at you, he'd have a headstart even purely pushing the ball and out run you. Until it becomes a common scene, which it hasn't been, there is not much to worry about him being our starting left back. We've had excellent results against the teams above us, and he has been a major part of that.

I don't remember any of those making him look inept. In fact with regards to Walcott I thought Jose had him in his pocket.

Would be worth giving him a game against Blackburn, let Enrique have a rest. Lots of very lazy balls from him yesterday. Having said that, Agger needs a bit more match fitness before Saturday, and looked excellent when he came on yesterday, but would probably rather see him back with Skrtel in the middle.

Fabio really should start tonight.

Agreed, teams should have genuine competition for places all over the pitch and after a few below-par games from Enrique it would bne nice to see a seemingly fit Aurelio start. If he looks too rusty to start against Everton then at least Enrique has been given a bit of a rest (assuming Aurelio lasts most of the game of course).
