Is lemo used outside Liverpool?

I don't know, but it is now used in Liverpool for something that's definitely not lemonade!

Quite a lot of the words mentioned on here are familiar to me and I grew up in Blackburn, so I guess they're just Lancashire words. We also said Lolly ice instead of ice lolly.

There are others that I had never heard of in my life before I moved here, like antwacky, meff and jigger. Antwacky's got to be one of the best words ever!
Oh and when someone said they were going to the baggie I had no idea what they were talking about.

Anyone ever use Danny for car ? Played footie with ab uber scouse lad from Scottie rd who always said that.

And another one is done a dusty l= done one = gettin' off= gone home/elswhere
Happy to have my eye wiped on this but I believe Danny comes from a form of rhyming slang for Danny Marr who was a boxer....there was a documentary on in the early 80's about scouse car thieves called whizzing' a danny which was the talk of the playground the next day
Dusty comes from Dustin Hoffman. As in I'm off man

Lemo? What the fuck does it mean now?  ???
Ferguson has probably told Moyes that he will be his recommendation to take over.

When I used to get the bus with my mum years ago, if we were going into town we'd go upstairs so she could have a smoke. But if we were only going a few stops, she'd say "just go inside" (meaning stay downstairs) Anyone know if that's a local thing? Or a generation thing?

I read leggy earlier. Never heard that before.

But 'legger' or 'to get legged' as in getting chased by say a golf course security guard after you played golf with your mates and didn't pay.

My Grandad used to say that as well, I always assumed that old buses must have been open topped and that's why he said it.

If my memory serves me right I think it was more 60's lingo, though professional scousers in the media spotlight might have carried on using it into the 70's.
Certainly with me and my mates, by the 70's, I think the word 'ace' had replaced it in everyday speech as meaning something really good, and instead the word gear was only being used to describe clobber.

I have a 'Learn Yaself Scouse' book me nan gave me about 2 days ago. Its quite old (80s I think) but its funny, took it to work today and the lads have have had a laugh with it (I live and work in Manchester).
re published in hte 80s, but originally a 60s tome...much of the lingo was a good 20 years out of date by then, but still funny. the author - fritz spiegl -  was a musician who settled in liverpool, fell in love with the city and the lingo. good ear he had, i'll say that...cracking sense of humour too, a fine example of a genuine scouser born far far away from the sound of the one o'clock gun! (shankly being another).

Yep.  Cockney rhyming slang originally as was 'Sherbet'  (dab)  for cab.

Another one for a cab was 'Joe Baxi'.

Quote
Dusty comes from Dustin Hoffman. As in I'm off man

Another one for leaving was 'Tales'  as in 'doing tales'  from Tales of Hoffman.
