Wow. Now I really AM curious to see this. cornelius giving it a 9/10?? And this isn't a wind-up?
Haha, I bloody loved it! Can't wait for the directors cut whistles and bells blu ray.
I just don't get the criticisms. A mate of mine on facebook posted tonight that if Alien didn't exist or this film was unrelated to it, it would be getting 5 stars across the board. And I think he's right, that seems to be the barrier for some people.
Special praise too for the casting. Perfect IMO.
back on topic... giving a film 9 or 10 suggests perfection or near perfection. and this film is anything but. Alien, Solaris, Blade runner, 2001....those are 10s.. and using them as a yardstick this film isnt close
i just think people are too rash with hyperbole. you need to stew on them a bit before putting them up there with the classics
I think anyone who's ever encountered my film views on here would know I'm not prone to hyperbole. I'm notoriously fussy and quite clearly had some serious hang ups prior to seeing this film but it's only an opinion and I'm quite capable of deciding where to place films in my own pantheon thanks. 9/10 is not ridiculous. If I thought it was a masterpiece I'd have given it 10 but frankly it shits on anything by Christopher Nolan for example yet nobody seems to balk at people scoring The Dark Shite with a 9 or a 10 and this shits upon it from an epic height. And if Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a 7 (and some people seemed to think it was even better than that for some reason!) then Prometheus definitely warrants a high score. Quite simply I just don't share your hang ups and was deeply engaged from the first frame to the last and I've no doubts that this is a film that I will watch many more times.
Incidentally I love Blade Runner as much as the next man but it's not without it's flaws either.
