The big bang maybe? There is way too much to understand, but there must be intelligent life out there besides us, I fully believe that.

2nd one was every bit as good as the first, maybe a little better in my opinion.
I can't agree with that. Ian Holm, John Hurt, Tom Skerritt, Yaphet Kotto, Harry Dean Stanton versus erm Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton, some bloke from My Two Dads and a typical James Cameron token Latino girl soldier.

It's a great romp like Andy says but James Cameron versus Ridley Scott?  :lmao

Concur with all that. I think those saying Aliens is the better film are just nuts... and I've loved Aliens since I was a kid!

Alien has much better acting and dialogue; a more oppressive atmosphere; utterly immersive, beautiful and truly innovative (unique for its time) art direction; far fewer silly moments, and a genuinely terrifying creature at its centre (again, unique for its time). Aliens labours under this pretty dumbass impression that if one Xenomorph is scary, then hundreds of Xenomorphs plus a big-arsed Queen Xenomorph, versus a bunch of meathead Space Marines with massive guns, has got to be scarier... only it isn't. That said, there are loads of awesome bits in it, and Bishop is great.

I mostly enjoy Aliens in the same way I enjoy Predator and Terminator 2, mostly.

Bang on. I love Aliens like I love Predator, it's a fantastic action film. But Alien wipes the floor with it as a piece of cinema.

I've watched Aliens more than Alien, mainly for the fact that I don't want to have to sit and wait in anticipation for something to happen, whereas in the second you can just switch off and enjoy.

Alien is better, but Aliens is by no means shite as some posts would suggest.

No point comparing the two films because they're totally different. Besides, why would anyone want to criticise Aliens, one of the best movies of its type ever. Alien is the better movie in a number of ways of course but just enjoy them both I say.

Ah, i know where your coming from but look up Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb

First one was a classic but second was far from a romp... many would argue including myself

Not saying I didn't enjoy the second one. But it wasn't a patch on the first one.

It was basically Cameron saying "Let's blow the shite out of loads of aliens while running around a lot, nuking a planet for a laugh and sticking in loads of gore and shit hot technological effects"

Loved the second one. Thought it was brilliant. But the first was a classic from start to finish.

Quick question Peeps - can somebody tell me why Cameron directed the 2nd movie instead of Scott?  Was the first one not a hit at the time?  Was it a studio decision?

Or did Scott not want to get involved with it due to the script / etc....?

The idea of doing a sequel was all Cameron's - he was writing a script for it even before he'd finished filming The Terminator. Fox wanted to see how that did before giving Cameron the green light to do Aliens. Scott was apparently never approached, but he was of course persuing his own things after the theatrical release of Blade Runner was butchered by the studio - he was branching out into fantasy (Legend) and other genres, doubt he'd have been interested at the time anyway.

wouldn't have guessed going by your first line! personal preference though. they're both fantastic, if there was a poll on which is better i reckon they'd come out dead level just about.

Oh they're both great films but Alien is a cerebral piece of cinematic greatness whereas Aliens is pure meatheaded entertainment. Alien is clearly the connoisseur's choice.

As for polls I'm sure you're right but going by what's popular these days (Voting Conservative/X Factor/Twilight Saga/Adele/Avatar/iPhones/Downtown Abbey/Sarah Millican etc etc) I'd take any result with a Texas sized pinch of salt.

How close with Prometheus get to quality of Alien........... Some seem to think it will be way off but I hope not.

You've got to wonder if the ship that crash lands (And is seen in Alien) is going to be analogue to Pandora (And her box of gifts) as in the legend the response to Prometeus stealing the fire was Pandora being created by all the Gods out of clay and sent to mankind where she releases all of mankinds ills onto the Earth (And interestingly she keeps Hope in the box)

Also Prometheus wasn't human - he was a Titan.

I kind of agree, I loved James Cameron's film. If Alien was a ghost story, Aliens was a war film in the same universe. Immense both.
Aliens is one of the great sequels imo.
Was going to write something similar to that. Exactly how both should be looked at, and Aliens should never be scoffed at because the director is James Cameron.

Wouldn't that be nice? The end titles music from Blade Runner is easily one of the best pieces of Electronic music I've heard.

Anybody bought this months Empire?

There's a big feature on Prometheus, really interesting. The standout line however has to be this one:

"The excitement is palpable on set, with actors and crew members united in their sense that this is something special, a comeback that's up there with Elvis '68 and Istanbul '05"

I'm sold  :D

It says everything to me that in a year that also sees the release of films like The Hobbit, Avengers and the next Batman that this film is still by far and away the one i can't wait to see more than any other.

Always hoped we'd get a glimpse of what went on before Alien but never imagined it would end up with Ridley Scott doing another epic to tell us.

Also, debating if Alien or Aliens was the better film is pointless to me, both complete classics in their genres but that's it though, they are nothing alike except the fact they take place in the same universe.
