People talk about goalkeepers in womens football, but the Japanese gk in particular was very very good, not just in the shoot. Even if she was only very small too.

Well if you miss the three first penalties in a shootout there isn't much hope...

Don't know if it was nerves or if they weren't prepared but that was a horrible shootout..

That last penalty was Japan was the best of the lot. Great penalty to win the World Cup.
"My coach told me to warm up just before the break. He told me I was going to take care of Kaka. I didn't think it was possible to turn things around but in the dressing room at halftime Rafa Benitez was calm - "We are Liverpool FC, we have so many fans, we are not going to be slaughtered. If we can score a goal quickly we push on from there.""

But at the end of the day, they couldn't finish off Japan and the Japanese fought like LIONS till the end..for glory, for Japan, for pride, for their people..for their land..for hope...and for everyone they left behind....

Japan didn't win, the US lost. Poor defending on the first goal. They hit the woodwork a bunch of times. Japan hung in there, never gave up, played fair, and in the end held their nerve. The US couldn't hold the lead and paid the price.

BTW...  Brilliant red card by the Japanese defender @ the end of the game.  Just a bright move to save her team.  Reminded me of Suarez's quick-thinking move in the WC, too.  Smart stuff...

Japan won. Fact. Hitting the woodwork, poor defending and whatever excuses you care to offer don't count. Goals do. And Japan scored to win it.

End of.

I agree, but I also think there was a bit of bad luck.  The pressure was on from the early first minute, but for whatever reason, the ball would not go behind that Japanese garden gnome they called a goalie.

Tough loss, but cast aside that bad luck.  The girls only have themselves to blame.  Rapinoe is still my favorite player.  Morgan would have easily won the MVP had the US won.

I wanted USA to win because that would most likely mean more Alex Morgan coverage in the near future :(

Both teams played tough and although USA played better they made too many mistakes and it costed them.
