mcmahon was ten times the player barton is, imo mcmahon was the second best player in that late 80`s team behind john barnes.
mcmahon is massively under rated by liverpool fans, well the ones who never saw him anyway.
That's it. McMahon was as important as Souness was before him just different players though with some similarities.

Des, I have just had a call from a very reliable source that confirms your post. Other clubs are in for him too though, so it depends what counter-bids are made.

Not going to lie. Not overly impressed with this if true. He's had a good season and will probably improve our squad but there are too many doubts about his personal life. Yes he has cleaned up his act but there always doubts about him and I wouldn't want a thug like him anywhere near our football club
He's not exactly cleaned up his act.

And this is what I cant understand. He just doesn't fit FSG's type. They and Comolli have both stated on numerous occasions that we wouldn't be after signing any 'stop gap' players. This sort of signing goes against everything they have said.

Yeah really.  If he was 5 years younger I'd say we should take a chance, but I don't even know why they're looking at him.

Been thinking over this before I posted. What was / is clear is our need for more depth in the squad. Yes, the youngsters look very promising, but they are not used to playing for the 1st team every game. We need a larger squad, and Barton would do a job for us, and also meets the english players ruling. I would expect bigger signings also over the summer.

He would give his all and play hard, we need a hard player. Wasn't particularly looking at or hoping for him but I think we need someone with his attributes.

if we include youth players who have the potential to become far better than barton then i think we do.

Such as who?

Shelvey is the only decent youth player who can play in midfield for us.

Coady might come through but that won't be for another year yet IMO.

Lots of similar doubts remain about AC too, he seems like a real decent fella though.
True but I just feel Barton is on another level and we will be opening up a massive can of worms. But then again its not my opinion that counts, its Kenny's and Comolli's

He's better than Spearing for me. But he's also a fucking nutjob disaster waiting to happen.

Strange one though. I know they're not the exact same type player but can't see us signing him AND Adam. Not when we've also got Lucas, Gerrard and Meireles plus Spearing with a new contract

Let's wait and see where it runs though. I'm still expecting him to be playing for everton or someone like that next season

More trouble than he's worth, overly aggressive, and a pointless stop gap signing.

No thanks. Hope this is a bullshit rumour.
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

Midfield? Maybe Kenny thinks we're a soft touch?

As a repalcement for Poulsen maybe? Sure. Shelvey on loan, Gerrard, Meireles, Lucas, Barton as four midfield options wouldn't be bad, of course Spearing is to be considered aswell.

You couldn't be more wrong my friend. Barton, like him or loathe him hates getting beat, players like that make good winners and if you look how that shower down the lancs won the league with nothing more than a better mentality than the rest; then if, this signing happened I can see totally the reasons why kenny would make a move for a player with his attitude.
