Phil Jones
« on: May 17, 2011, 07:17:40 PM »
There seems to be a lot of hype around Cahill but after watching Jones against Utd, he just seems that extra bit special. You just feel if he were to reach the maximum of his potential, he could end up being world class. He has all the attributes you could ask for from a centre back really.

Amazing to think he's 19! He carries himself like a veteran centre back.

How good can he be?

I like the look of the lad.  Seems good with his feet when I watched them play City he had some good runs in him.  Seems strong and rapid even if he isn't 6 foot 3 or so he seems able to handle himself.

Nevermind next season, where the hell has he been this season!?

Remember him breaking out this time last season but not really taking any notice of him. He's done the same again this stage of this season. Surprised Blackburn haven't been starting him. He might be 19 but he looks good enough to have been a starter for them.

I've never watched him once in my life. Blackburn are probably the most uninspiring team in the division.

You think so?

I think he makes a few too many rash decisions atm. Will develop with a bit more playing time I think. He'll have learned quite a bit from Samba and now maybe it's time to learn form someone a bit more 'scouse'. He has all the hallmarks of being top, top class.

Could see him playing very well with Kelly as a partner for years to come.   :-X

Think he was injured for a while mid-season.

He'll be a top player. I remember watching what I think was his debut against Chelsea last season (same day as we lost 2-1 to United I think) and he looked very good even then up against Drogba who was on fire at the time.

Allardyce was playing him in centre of midfield at the start of the season and he looked very comfortable there going to box-to-box, not just sitting and destroying. He's a quality player. No one will bully him, he's mobile and he can play. Sounds simplistic, but isn't that everything you want in a centreback?

'Bout 6ftish. Read people saying the stats have him at 5'10 but, like when people used to say Insua was 5'5, those stats were from he was 17-18. He's still growing.

Next season he could be wearing red  ;)

A Scottish manager certainly thinks so.

He seems easily athletic enough to me if that is what you're asking.  For a centreback I would say he is fast.

I think he's very similar to Terry. Dunno if EBJT would have been able to look comfy in centre midfield at any point in his career though.

The reason I compared him to Camelgob as well is the rampaging forward with the ball, in close control...like Wio in his peak (obviously without his experience)

Well i'd say he is as we've scouted him on a couple of occasions in recent weeks.

Sweet. Heard we were interested but wasn't aware we'd actively scouted him. Hopefully Kenny can do the rest.
