I'm not watching the cricket but only getting updates from here and bbc.

A real shame that Tendulka didn't get his century...

;)

Can any of you more knowledgable types tell me what effect the old/new ball has on a spinner? I know the new ball is much better for the pacemen but is it any particular disadvantage for spinners? Does it have any particular effect on the spinners?

Think England have done brilliantly to not allow Tendulkar get a hundred in eight innings this series, can't be many other occasions of that?

The match kicks off in 30 minutes ya silly twat

It's vital to be able to grip the ball as a spinner, and a ball with some rough on it is much easier to grip. There are some spinners who are comfortable with a new ball, but not many. Swann is one of them. There will be many more in the coming years because of the trend for spinners to take the new ball in 20/20 and other forms of one day cricket.

The main reason spinners don't bowl with it however is that it's not going to make them turn it any more, whereas it will almost certainly push through and swing for seamers.

But then again, can't really give it to a player who's team has been whitewashed.

Broad for me.

i'd give it to broad, he was getting some stick before the series but has bowled very well and had some useful knocks in the first 2 tests, especially the 2nd innings at lords when we were 6 down for little over 100 runs

Broad for me.

Vaughan won man of the series when the Aussies battered us down under, if I remember rightly.  Agree though, as great as Dravid has been, it's hard to give it to an Indian player after this drubbing.

You're right he did. But he did score by far the most amount of runs.

Pietersen 533 in 6 innings
Pietersen 504 in 6 innings
Dravid 461 in 8 innings

Broad 25 wickets and 182 runs.

So yeah, Broad or KP.

Eh, how has KP got 12 innings?

Bell deserves it more than KP, more crucial innings. Broad should get it though.
