I got the Lucas thing wrong. Will be right on Henderson though. Play him RM, play him CM - Not good enough and never will be.

Top 3 Finnish
Trip to Wembley
Qualify for CL

So we should re-sign Litmanen and Hyypia, and buy... Mikael Forssell?

EDIT: Hadn't read the rest of the thread, and came up with those 3 independently. Spooky...

4 or 5 first team squad out (deadwood)
3 or 4 players in (2 for first team; 2 for squad) Nett spend circa £20m (after selling deadwood)

A decent run in the Europa (should we get 5th)
A decent domestic cup run
4th place (but much closer to 1st points-wise)

Decision and start on ground expansion (start end of next season)

If we can spend more and sign 4 first team players and if we miss out on the Europa League then I'd expect us to be 2nd or 3rd but put in a decent challenge.

Much relies on what the other top teams do too though

If no-one else strengthened, I'd say we had a chance.

A few signings in the right areas and we can deffo put up a title challenge that lasts until the Spring I reckon.

The wildcard is City as they'll be in the European cup, the lure of that combined with their money may see them far stronger than this year.

With a few signings(4-5) i'll think we  can get a CL spot and then challenge for the title next season after that! Kenny will bring us the nr. 19 :)

I expect us having a shot at the league title, perhaps not winning it, but at least a Rafa-esque could have been-season where we're within 10 points at the end. I hope we could go further than that, but it all depends on whether the weaknesses in the team is addressed. The first XI right now is, under the right management, already capable of CL, as Kenny's points record suggests.

In the domestic cups, I'd settle for at least a semi final. If we get Mancs away from home it's tough going through, so cups aren't easy to predict, but once we've reached the semis it's on neutral ground and same for all.

If we're able to get more than 75 points we're dead-cert for CL, which should be the primary aim.

Expect to be involved in the title race most of the season for starters. How close we come will depend on new signings and, of course, fitness as I can't foresee any motivational or tactical problems. We'll certainly have as good a team spirit as anyone if the present atmosphere is anything to go by. Top 3, cup final.

And I believe Top 4 finish is realistic

Realistically, well possibly win the Carling cup? I also do not think a top four finish is unreasonable given that we have consistently been in the top three of the form table for the last eighteen games:-

Spoken like a true manager at a press conference. Which we're not - we're fans and we ideally like to aim high and talk about "what if's".  In my 35 years of actively supporting LFC, I don't think I've ever met a single person in real life who's said "Let's just take it one game at a time"  :)

you need to get out more

I just dont see it in City, at least yet to be honest.

People say, if they're in the Champs League they'll attract the biggest players.

Well, even in the Europa, they signed Silva, Yaya Toure, Dzeko etc.  Some of the biggest names in world football.

Problem with city is they dont have the heart.  Thats one huge advantage we have over them......even if they do have a better squad.

It will be interesting if they get a new manager in the summer.

Because its the right manager that will make them a force.......not more new superstars

In late August this thread will be something other than pipe dreams and guesswork.

There's no logical reason why we shouldn't live in hope and expect to win the league. It happens, look at Kenny at Blackburn. There's no reason that after a successful transfer window we shouldn't be as well placed as the other contenders, and if we're not, we currently have a manager who is outdoing other big managers to make up for that, and incredible belief.

Saying we expect to win the league isn't putting any unnecessary pressure on anyone. The players won't know its what we expect. Dalglish on the other hand will - we're in the league to win it and thats what we will try and do. The dream of 'top four' reminds me of what has effectively been a barren spell punctuated by some amazing nights over the last 20 years. Lets get into the Champions League so that we can...what? Compete against the best in Europe? When we can't compete against the best here? I'm expecting a serious title challenge and for once in the last 20 years I'm putting money on it.

I think we only need a couple of useful squad members to add to what ew have got (so that Poulsen is ot needed) and we should be able to get a Europa place if not challenge for 4th.

Dont think we will be more than 10-15 points behind the league winners either.

This season we gave the likes of Spurs and Manchester City, a 4-5 month head start before we finally parted company with Hodge podge and started to compete, and now at the business end of things and we are a stones throw from qualifying for europe again, and not a great deal away from Champions League qualification,

Had Kenny taken over 2 games earlier we could be in the places already!!

Other teams will obviously strengthen, but so will we, and i believe we have the people and the financial clout to strengthen the right areas with the right staff, (the most expensive player is not always the best choice)

There is no reason to believe that top four is beyond us, and a good run in the cup, is very very achievable.

Just as a footnote, i really really feel we will start to see the begining of the end for Man U next season, money will be tight for them, and they have so many key members of thier squad who are only going to get older, and more prone to injuries.

Being realistic I would say the following;

1. 3-4 top class signings that go straight into the first team. Signings such as Young, Gervinho, Cahill and Matuildi.

2. Start to promote youth further. Give more games (10 -15) for players like Robinson, Kelly and Flanagan. Implement promising youngsters such as Sterling, Suso and Coady.

3. Finish in the top 4. Ideally with a sustained chase of the top 2 until February 2012. Pts total of 75 would be great.

4. Win a cup (ideally the FA Cup).

5. Look to sign 1 other intelligent signing with experience. In the January window.

With the expectations of most of the fans so low, lower than usual seeing as a lot of usually end up saying 'this is our year' and such, it would be typical if we went and won the league next year haha in fact if the expectation stays as it is currently, I'm going to make that my prediction  ;)

But realistically, I'd be happy with top 4. Just get us back in the CL. I think we'll have to see just how much we invest in the summer to predict any more than that.

Spot on. we're a lot better off than most realise on here and with Summer transfers included, i see no reason why we cannot take this form into next season.

We won't have Europe, or if we do, it will be to blood the kids more and with that being taken care of, we can concentrate fully on the league. To all those who are saying we're miles away from the current top four, I don;t subscribe to that point of view. Arsenal don't know their arse from their elbow, the shite are not as good as the gutter press (EDIT: all the press and of course their delusional fans) think and the rentboys are, and have been found out. Signing a £50 million striker when your problems are multiple and elsewhere is not the way to go, Couple that with a managerial change in the summer as well and they are more than up shit creek!

Manchester City are the only worries to me as if they get a decent manager in they'll be the ones to watch, but i can see them going for a marquee manager signing who will be a big name, but even more inept than Mancini!

So to answer the question: Challenging for top dog status.

Beat the Mancs comfortably home and away, beat Chelsea and shut out the traitor, beat Arsenal twice with last minute penalties and have a go at the title.  Top 3 finish and a good cup run.
