2011 Summer US Tour??
« on: March 29, 2011, 08:04:24 PM »
Looks like a fair share of teams are announcing US tours for Summer 2011.  I saw some news about dates in Asia for LFC, but any rumours about US appearances?  A friendly at Fenway park seems like a no-brainer with current owners.

Would we be playing baseball or footy, or half each? ;)

Good one...last summer Celtic and Sporting CP played and it was packed.  Boston of course has a large Irish population, but they also have a lot of Portugese.  LFC would be sold out in a matter of hours.

Easily. I've been to a number of LFC bars in the Boston area, and one in particular - The Phoenix Landing - is usually packed on match day. No doubt in my mind a summer tour through Boston would sell out in the blink of an eye.

The Phoenix Landing is epic on match days, even more so since FSG have come aboard.

Had no idea The Phoenix Landing was a LFC bar!  I haven't been there in YEARS and certainly that was before I discovered PL football.  My living room is the only LFC-loyal 'bar' in Asheville, NC!

If we're already booked in to play in Asia I would rather us not play in the U.S. of A.

Prefer it if we played more friendlies at home / in Europe instead.
Less travelling for the players but more importantly it will be easier for me to get across to watch us !   :wave

With no major intl tournament this year I really hope we have a good pre-season and come flying out of the blocks in August.
Will make it easier for new players to settle in too.

You couldn't be more right. I know my mates and I would be beside ourselves with excitement if Liverpool came to town to play - I went to the Celtic/Sporting match and Fenway was absolutely packed it was great.

A Liverpool game in the USA would be packed no matter where they went. There are always people who would fill the stadiums. When Sporting, Tottenham, Man City, and the Red Bulls had their tournament in NJ last year, the stadium was packed for every game (I went to 2 and watched the others on tv), fans were going crazy and doing chants and what not, it was the best atmosphere I've ever seen at a USA football match. There will always be people willing to go to football matches when a big name team comes to town.

Hope they'd come to either PPL Park or Lincoln Financial so I could go see them.

Though I definitely wouldn't mind going out of the way to DC or Red Bull stadium.

They may be waiting to see what the schedule for our European Games (if any) are. If we miraculously get 4th, it puts a huge hole in our preseason.

Red Bull Arena or Seattle would definitely be the most formidable if they wanted to choose a football stadium. Seattle cause they've got a great footballing fan base there, and NY because 1) It's NY, guaranteed to pack it and 2) It's a new, very nice stadium where every seat is a beautiful view and it's designed for football only.

It would sell out everywhere, I'd love it if they came to Southern California and if they were really that concerned about ticket sales all the have to do is schedule it against one of the bigger Mexican clubs, instant sell out.

Yeah, same.  I saw the Union played Manchester United at the Linc last summer.  Pretty awesome, besides that the stadium was 90% United fans (and the Union lost  :()

I wanted to go to that but the timing was off.  But I saw the Union home opener at the Linc when Le Toux scored that hat trick.  My first game at PPL will be in a week or two when they play New York.

Not in 2011.

Should be in 2012.

There's also a potential for a LFC supporters convention. There was one planned for Las Vegas this summer but it's been cancelled. Not enough time to put it together properly. So look for something next summer when the team tours.

I was there also.  Those games were HOT.  Had to be 100 degrees in the new stadium.  If players weren't in shape they soon were after playing in that heat.  Good games all around and (even as a neutral supporter) the atmosphere was boss.  The big NYC Portuguese population was out en-mass and the surprisingly large amount of Tottenham supporters actually did their club proud that entire weekend.

Watched the matches @ Fenway on tv.  The crowds seemed fantastic.  By accounts from friends who were there the atmosphere was great.

Personally I'd love to see Liverpool make a Boston trip at least once per summer.  Considering that FSG own the stadium it would be nice to actually break even on one of these summer trips.  But way more importantly, I think it would be great to get that familial-thing going with the Cities of Boston/Liverpool.

Anyway, Liverpool would sell-out wherever they played in the US, whether it be 37K Fenway Park or 85K Meadowlands Stadium.

Considering Liverpool played Celtic in July 2004 at Rentschler Field in Hartford, CT ( just a few hours away from Boston) and didn't sell out back in 2004, some of you need to revise your predictions of a sell out. We won 5-1 and I was there.

Not to mention we played Porto in Toronto and Roma in  NYC that weren't total sell outs either.

Versus Porto in the Meadowlands..just under 26,000 attended back in 2004.
