There is a big difference in taking a 24 year old on a Bosman, than say a 30 year old. He will have a resale value, at least back to France, where he has a decent reputation. The only real danger is if he has serious long term injury problems. He just had an operation, so hopefully we give him a very thorough medical before offering him a contract.

How can anyone get excited by a free transfer of a player who never made a name for himself - I mean, who the fuck is Marveaux? I first heard about him when he was linked to us.

I'm off this thread now with all my pessimism.

How can anyone get excited??

Well for one he's a winger. And going by reports he's fast, creative and skillful. Those are the main attributes we've been missing and beating our heads with sledgehammers over for god knows how many years. Have you seen us play lately? There is a chronic lack of width in the team. When I say width I mean someone who can get wide, cross a decent ball in and take a player on. There is fuck all of it. The only glimmer of light there is there is when Luis goes out wide and runs at people, but he's not meant to play that role.

I bet my bottom penny he will make way more of an impact  than the dross that our current #10 has served up. Or our current #14 for that matter.

This is how I see it.  Seems like we see him as more of a winger than a CAM, which is really what Pacheco is.  If he's as fast as they say he is, and can throw in a good cross, I think he'll make a great squad player.

But according to reports he's not as fast as Joe Cole (In November 2009, Cole was caught driving his Audi A4 at 105mph).  And if you read the report on him he's not able to cross the ball.

Not going to lie, I've never seen the lad kick a ball so I don't have a clue what he could bring to the squad. However, any injection of pace and skill into a team bereft of both should be welcomed in my opinion. Hopefully this lad has both attributes in abundance.

After Voronin, Jovanovic and Cole I'm going to be judging this from a distance and not getting to excited over him.

If he hugs the touchline, takes a man on and gets a ball in the box then thats fine by me.

Surely he's meant as a replacement for Jovanovic/Cole? :-\

hmm maybe.  I see pacheco operating in a front 3 at liverpool like he did with the spainish youth team.....  But the fact that Jovanovic and Cole hardly get a look in, and also with Suarez as a permanent starter and Kuyt usually always fit enough to be in the eleven every game, and probably another player coming in as a 'wing forward' if the rumours and reports are to be believed, then I see at least one of pacheco (if he isn't on loan) and marveaux getting as much game time as jovanovic is now.

I hope he does have a fair bit of pace and hugs the touchline, I rated our last few fast wingers (Riera, Gonzalez) but they got shipped out, fingers crossed this goes a bit better :)
I remember I was in bed with Paul Bearer making proper passionate love to him, and then all of a sudden he was tossing me off. I woke up at around 3am thinking "what the fuck was that?" Only to find my left hand covered in you know what

Have no idea how good he is, but it just seems like a low risk opportunity to add depth to the squad. I expect that if he signs for us, he won't be the only wide player we're looking at signing (hopefully there'll be a couple of big names coming), but rather this is an opportunity to add some depth to the team.

Has to be better than Jova atleast. No offence to him,but this is a winger who will probably play out wide, unlike Jova, who firstly isnt one, secondly isnt good, and thirdly never looks up.

A winger on a free,no risk.Cant be too bad.

Accord Marveaux - Liverpool

Last information in France.
Don't understand in what this "always wounded" player could be a good recruitment for Liverpool

The cons just jump at you
2. Unknown, unsung
3. Big bad bosman

Yes, relatively unknown (you'd heard of Hyypia when we signed him had you?) and free (because he hasn't signed a new contract). These cons will be giving me many a sleepless night.

People keep saying there's very little risk. We can't possibly know that without knowing what kind of contact we've offered him. An injury prone squad player on 60K a week would be a risk!

Surely we are due a decent bosman signing given our previous disasters in this area.

More than his constant injuries, i am really dubitative on his real level ( only one good season in Ligue 1).
A player for the bench, at the best IMO ...

I've heard bosman mentioned so automatically I'm going to assume this player is rubbish, a crock and not worth anything. Pfft, I'd never even heard of the lad before he was linked with us. From the very first moment he sets foot on the pitch I'm going to be scrutinising every mistake and error he makes, because, after all, that's what we do with our free signings BECAUSE THEY ARE RUBBISH. Not only will I give him zero time to adapt to a new country, team and language but I'll constantly bemoan any injuries he picks up because I've heard he's made of glass. When he invariably fails I'll bitch about his wages going to waste too.

Might as well sell him in the summer with all our other deadwood. Or at least have a bonfire.

Anyone have any idea what wage bracket he'll be in?

If it's anything under £20k a week then it's absolutely no risk at all.

We should weigh up his positives and negatives in making that decision, as we should do with any player
Gerrard's Positive contributions substancially outweigh his negatives so he stays
Coles do not therefore he goes

Yes he is ... He's had 6 significant injuries over the past 3 seasons ... Only Agger and Aurelio have as much injuries as Gerrard ... People should stop bitching and moaning about player's injury record, because there is always a risk involved, even with players that haven't been injured recently ... We should be concentrating on player's footballing ability ... Fuck it, even Harry Kewell is playing regularly these days ...
