I have been hammered by the bookies last few weeks so dropped my stakes considerably this week.

Only just realized this event starts tomorrow so my main Bet in Sweden is PGA Tour rookie Jonas Blixt. Blixt coming off the back of 3 top 10's missed the cut last week in the Memorial. I hope he had one eye on returning home this week and is raring to go in Stockholm tomorrow. This lad is a great talent. Took the skinny 28-1 on Blixt.

Also a few quid on Damien McGrane 80-1

Ist rd leader EW bets on Robert Karlsson (The amateur not the good one) 150-1 and Jaco Van Zyl 50-1

Finally a Westwood/Z Johnson double

Will probably go with Martin Laird e/w this week, feel like taking a week off before the US Open, don't fancy much this week, some players I like in the US but their prices aren't tempting enough to me.

Saving my money for next week and using money for Euro 2012.

Fancy Z Johnson to go very well this week but just haven't got the till to back him at 10-1.  Got him with Westwood in a double so will see how that pans out.

Done a few small EW bets on David Hearn, Tim Herron, Jason Bohn and Bob Estes.  The latter 3 all qualified for the US Open earlier this week so I hope they carry the momentum through this week to next weeks biggie.

1st rd leader bets. Karlsson, Harrington, Blanks and Merrick.

Todd Hamilton on the spread.

Merrick had me sweating last night alright.

Leader on -5 going into the 18th. One shot clear of clubhouse leader Maggert and just needing a par to virtually guarantee me the sole 1st rd leader bet and about £480. He only goes and sticks it in the water off the tee.

I'm expecting a double bogey and share of 2nd with shit loads of others and returns of about 40 quid. Merrick to his credit makes bogey and I am now in a share of the lead and £280.

Last few 3-balls still out on the course and Seung Yul Noh comes from nowhere to tie for the lead going into the last hole. Gutted I was until good old Noh sticks his second shot in the water and makes bogey.

Eventually got myself a much needed £280 :)

(now to waste it on Euro 2012 bets)

As usual, I was doomed at the cut in the Euro Event. Can't see Zach Johnson winning in the US to go with the probable Westwood win.

For interest I did JM Singh last night to finish in top 3 at 20-1. Singh needs a good round tomorrow and he has a slight chance.

I might get on John Daly after today in the US. Was playing some good stuff yesterday and is going well today. He will be a nice price I reckon.

Mcdowell fucked up the noren/mcdowell double.

Hoping for a place on the european though.
Wiesberger-9
Goya-9
Olesen-8

Stenson did well today and is now -2 on the PGA.  Other 2 not so good.  Laird started great and then went backwards

Main bet, Luke Donald, length off the tee doesn't give you much of an advantage this week, accuracy and scrambling key to success this week with small greens. Also the players have commented the greens are in great shape, rolling perfectly, Donald is a great putter so he should enjoy that also. Standout 14/1 now with Ladbrokes, hoping for some enhanced special in the next few days though from one of the bookies who go top price on all or some players for a certain period of time.

Also considering Nick Watney, 100/1 at Stan James, he enjoyed playing on this course as a kid, one of his favourites. Off the boil recently and I don't think he has the bottle to win if in contention so not gonna go big on him, hoping for my local bookie to go 7 places for a place which they usually do, would be delighted with 25/1 for a place, I imagine he would have put in good preparation for this tournament on a course he loved to play as a kid. When he finds form he is impressive.

Maybe Francesco Molinari at 100/1 also for his ball striking ability, but a horrendous putter so will have to think about that one.

As Stevie mentions, It's all about the accuracy at Olympic. Players are going to get punished for missing fairways thats for sure. Level Par could win this some are saying.

This is going to be a great 4 days i can feel it. I love the US Open. My favorite Major and especially on a course like this. The toughest opening 6 holes in golf they reckon.

I am already on Dufner at 50-1. Got on him straight after his win in the Byron Nelson a few weeks back.

Thinking about Poulter (4th in Driving accuracy on the European Tour) as another bet but not 100% sure on any others yet.

Poulter, Donald, Westwood, Rose. All good enough to win this from an English point of view.  If Rory and Tiger get themselves sorted off the Tee they will almost certainly figure. Tiger won the other week but as the commentator pointed out, Muirfield Village isn't a course dependent on performance off the tee. Olympic Club IS.  Not backing Woods at 7-1 but McIlroy at 18-1 is more interesting.

Selections complete:

Justin Rose e/w @ 33/1
Adam Scott e/w @ 45/1
Zach Johnson e/w @ 45/1
Sergio Garcia e/w @ 50/1
Francesco Molinari e/w @ 100/1
Carl Pettersson e/w @ 125/1

Justin Rose has all the attributes to win here and pick up his first major.  Driving accuracy, Good GIR stats and good scrambling stats which all go well at Olympic Club.  He has played very well this year accumulating numerous top 25's, top 10's a near win and a win and therefore is my main bet this week.  His scoring averages are also amongst the top 10 on tour.

Adam Scott has been nurtured for this from what I have read and only played certain tournaments so he is fairly fresh for the US Open.  He has the ability to produce big rounds of solid golf.  His form has been somewhat patchy and im hoping he can string the 4 rounds together.

Zach Johnson is in some great form, top 15 for accuracy off the tee and is top 5 in scrambling.  His scoring average like Rose' is in the top 10 on tour and I can't turn down 45/1 when you read all that.

Sergio has great stats on the European tour at the minute and sits 3rd in GIR.  His putting strokes gained on the PGA and putting on ET have improved drastically over the last couple of years and is in the top 20 for both.  His tee to green game is fantastic so if he can putt well he will have a chance.

Francesco Molinari should not be 100/1. Had a little bit each way on him. Molinari is in the top 10 on the european tour for driving accuracy and is playing well at the minute.  Carl Petterson is another each way punt at 125/1. Up there with scrambling and scoring average and both should prove good stats to have this week at the Lakes course. Decent price on the swede.

Right then, I've backed Westwood, Donald, Rose, Kuchar, Furyk and Hanson. All having good seasons and have recent Top-10 finishes which seems to be a good trend to follow for The US Open. All seemingly good fits for the course, it's not too long and most of the length is contained on 4/5 holes so as said above, accuracy really should be key this year.

Also took an early bet on Dufner after his second win @ 33/1.
On Fowler, Kuchar & Oosthuizen too.  Hopefully Fowler doesn't have any lasting effects from his mini meltdown two week ago.  Oosthuizen probably shouldn't get a bet after his appalling form of late but I promised myself I'd back him for this after the Masters.

Laddies offering 50's on Jim Furyk. Think i may be doing him too. This type of course gives wiley old foxes like a Furyk a good chance. Toms is another possibility at a very nice 100-1.

Just wanted to go big on him... but looks like I've missed the boat, best priced 35/1 now, tipped by Steve Palmer. Ticks all the boxes stats wise.

Luke Donald 16/1 with Will Hill btw lads.

Think i had it wrong Stevie. I was looking at 1st Rd leader 50-1 for Furyk. He was actually 40-1 outright with Laddies and now 35-1 as you say with PP. So not too bad a drop.

I'm going to get on Jim now before he drops again.

Said to my my missus last night to think of a golfer, any golfer and I will stick you a little bet on. Expected her to say Seve Ballesteros or Tiger Woods at best. She actually said 'Justin Somebody??".  Don't think she meant Justin Hicks so stuck a couple of quid EW on Justin Rose and told her she can half half the winnings :)

Gone for Mickelson at 22/1 and Watney at 100/1 in the end (both e/w, Lefty 6 places, Watney 7 places).

Probably poor picks, Mickelson obviously not a great driver of the ball, but with his scrambling ability, always has to be respected, 7 times in the last 17 years he's been in the top 4 places, 5 times 2nd, just fancy it could be his year and I like how he talked about the course in an interview, he doesn't sound negative about the first 6 holes like some others. Also seems to be excited about being drawn with Tiger, and also early Thursday starters might have a very slight advantage with the draw. Decent price I think at 22s.

Watney would be the jackpot for me. More of a hopeful punt, very out of form, but he's excited to be playing a course he liked to play on as a kid when he could, so I'm hoping he has decent knowledge of it and where is the best place to miss shots or whatever if you are going to miss, has had two weeks off and spent it at home, hopefully it helps and he was putting some work in on his game for this tournament, comes in under the radar which suits him, 25/1 for a top 7 place is what really made him a good bet for me. If he found some of the form he had early last year he'd have a chance for sure. Done him at 75/1 also e/w for 1st round leader.

Gave Donald, Furyk, Mahan and Stricker big consideration but will probably have a few bets in running. Can't wait for this tournament

Dufner, Poulter and Furyk my main bets. Really hopeful that these accurate guys can go well this week.

Els and Toms in my second tier of EW bets.  Smallish EW bets on huge outsiders Colt Knost, David Mathis and Tim Herron.

Dufner, Wi, Manassero, Toms, Herron 1st Rd leader leader (EW)

In the St Omer Open I've done Saltman, Nixon and Norret - All EW and 1st rd leader.

How likely is it that arguably the greatest ever golfer to play the game and a winner of 14 Majors and twice a winner on the PGA tour this year will finish in the top 10?

Very Likely I'd say

All bookies are odds on for Tiger top 10.

Just looking at the scorecards. The half of the field starting on the back 9 appear to be starting on the 9th Hole

Sure that isnt usual.  I always thought they started on the 1st or 10th Hole?

or am i just going mad?
