I think you'll find that he's 2nd to Martin Kaymer as of today. Martin Kaymer won the 2010 US PGA Championship, so he spoils your point about majors too...

Says something about the state of a sport when a World Number 1 is someone who has failed to win a major in the last year (Two 2nds a 16th and a DNP).

It is surely not just about the major's to all players though is it? What about prize money, competing in a lot tourneys will likely increase chances of accumulating prize money and therefore ranking points, which will mean avoiding the top players in earlier rounds; therefore, increasing the chances of progressing further in the bigger tournaments with the most prize money. This is especially important for younger players like Wozniacki and less so for the likes of Clijsters and the Williams sister.

I do agree though she must win a few majors before she can be considered the best; she is still only 20 so still has plenty of time develop and break through and win a few. Another poster asked the question earlier majors or rankings? If want to be considered as one of the best from your era then you need both really. As you would have shown you can do it when it really matters as well do it on a consistent basis.

The only player i think that is better than her overall currently is kim clijsters. Watched her play in Liverpool before at Calderstones Park a couple of years back
she has every shot going although i think she should mix it up more and perhaps serve/volley more. Plus she is a stunner and a Liverpool fan !

Williams sisters are/were better players but the lovely Caroline is at the top of the current rankings by miles.

Fair enough. I don't watch womens tennis and don't even bet on it anymore (too many breaks of serve for me to deal with) and certainly don't pay any attention to the ranking. It's just whenever I see the Williams play (not very often at the moment) they just seem better than anyone other player there.

Are the Williams sisters not number 1 and 2 because they don't play nearly as many events as Wozniacki or any other female player near the top of the rankings?

Does any female tennis player serve it as fast as Venus and Serena?

Picking and choosing tournament like that, they should be classed as part time and told to get into big tournaments through wild cards.

Well Dave, the popular view is that the Williams sisters are still the best two in the world, the trouble is they both played Eastbourne this week, the tournament hasn't finished & they're both kicking their heels watching Jeremy Kyle so I'm not too sure the theory holds too much water these days. Their advocates will point to injuries & their recent returns to the game but they're playing, they're there to be shot at and even the skinny rake posted above beat V Williams today... Make of that what you will.

One thing's for sure though, Miss Wozniacki is world number one, she has about 9900 points, next nearest is Kim Clijsters with around 8200 points...

Not complaining, not by a long shot hehe. I'm not an avid tennis follower, so just wondering. I remember women's tennis looking a lot tamer in the summer days of Graf, Seles. What changed? Was it a subtle shift from the WTA? Players themselves trying to gain more for themselves in advertising deals by making themselves more marketable? Just liking the attention? Kournikova for one was clearly too shit to win tournaments, so went down the glamour model route.

You can't tell me most of the lads who watch women's tennis or women's beach volleyball have any genuine interest in the sport whatsoever.
