For all their talk of a diamond, I think they it is really a 4-3-1-2. Anelka has skills but that isn't a natural fit for him. Otherwise it seems a solid formation, and both Drogba and Torres are going to get chances at some point.
I am not going to even bother working out how to combat it. I thought Kenny had lost it when I saw the team list for Stoke, but he got it spot on. I mean 3 CB it may have been, but you had Skrtel bursting forward like he thought he was Gerrard (although he shot like Skrtel), you had Glen Johnson in the number 9 position with a solid header from a cross that nearly was a goal. It was an amazingly fluid system and Stoke had no clue how to deal with it.
Means Chelsea have no idea what we will play, neither does the press. I hope any ITK shut the hell up as well in terms of team line-ups. We trust in Kenny. One thing I will say, is that if we are to get a result, I have a feeling Lucas is going to need a M0tM performance.

Chelsea Line up.

                      Cech
 Ivanovic   Luiz     Terry    Cole

                   Essien

         Ramires         Lampard

  Anelka      Drogba           Malouda

They will probably do what we did with Suarez and start him off on the bench before introducing him to get a reaction from the crowd and players.  They'll take Anelka off and for Torres and move Malouda into a free role in the space behind the 2 strikers.

Liverpool Line up

-----------------Reina----------------------

Kelly----Sktel------Agger------Johnson

---------Gerard--------Lucas-------------

-Kuyt-----------Raul-----------Maxi------

---------------Suarez----------------------

I think we'll play Kuyt on the right to help Kelly with Malouda and Cole as Chelsea will try to work on hm from the off.  Either way, this game will help his development.

Prediction is a tight 2 - 0 win to Liverpool, with Raul scoring the first and Suarez the 2nd.

* First time to hit Chelsea twice in PL at Stamford since 1995? At least we grabbed four in the 4-4 classic in CL...

Not sure what that means.  We did the double over them in 2008-2009.  Alonso scored - first team to beat them there in god know how long.  We beat them at home 2-0 in Big Fat Phil Scholari's last match.

Aunt Sally's comments have unecessarily stoked the fire up even more.  It would have been bad given the move but the sly remarks....!  Definately a red card in this one - lets hope it's him.

Think we'll nick something there to be honest.

Think he meant score twice at Stamford Bridge. In the same game. In the league.

im never confident of going to the bridge, even before the russian don came in and turned them into the 4th biggest club in london, but im loving what steve clarke and the king are doing tactically. i dont think i was the only one baffled before kick off against stoke wondering how they would all line up, but they got it spot on!!
so im pretty confident they'll have a plan to win this one

anyone travelling down and using the tube system please note the following:

Anyone heading to Stamford Bridge for Sunday's clash with Liverpool may appreciate the following information as there are closures on the District Line close to Fulham Broadway.

London Underground users should note the District Line will be closed between Putney Bridge and Wimbledon and between Earl's Court and South Kensington.

Also, the entire Hammersmith and City Line will be closed this weekend along with the Circle Line and Waterloo and City Line.

The Metropolitan Line will have no service between Baker Street and Aldgate this weekend. There will be replacement buses running for all lines experiencing engineering works.

My formation would be
                    Reina

 GlenJo  Carra  Agger  Aurelio

                   Lucas
           Gerrard Meireles

Kuyt                            Suarez
                  Ngog

Strong core, with players that will track back on either side and Ngog to lead the line.

Cant see Torres starting, he will come on for Anelka or Kalou. I personally think that if he was lining up against his old team in the tunnel it would put him off so I dont think that will happen.

Highly doubt Torres will start. He will be on the bench.

The key to this game is keeping hold of the ball. If we give it away they will hurt us. If we keep it I can see us getting something. Raul has played really well of great but he's been guilty of giving the ball away easily too. Must keep it simple. Also we must not do anything stupid in the first 10 minutes, like rash challenges or anything. They will be well up for this, make no mistake about that.

I'd be happy with a draw on this one. 0-0 and no goals for Torres, especially given how difficult this place has always been for us.

I think we should play the same formation that we did against Stoke. No doubt we will need Kyrgiakos to help deal with the likes of Drogba, Ivanovic and Terry at corners/free kicks.

Chelsea's strength isn't in the wide areas either so by packing the centre we could get more joy in canceling them out.

if stoke was the...litmus test for this formation against a chelsea side (stoke have similarities to the londoners re: strength and height) then i think its safe to say it was successful.

Why do people believe he will start on the bench? They've just spunked Ł50m quid on him, i'd imagine they will want to see him play, Abramovich in particular and we all know he does like a little meddle with the footballing side of things from time to time.

I fully expect Torres to start the game, he is after all 100% fit and theres no risks about him as a player hes proven he is lethal in the PL here.

if we could somehow win this game i think we`d have a chance of trying to make a late run for a champions league place.
pity carroll isnt fit, i`m sure terry is going to try and get into suarez`s face just like he did to torres when he first signed for us.
if we had the big fella up front i think we could have caused them problems, they couldnt handle him when chelsea played newcastle up at st james park, carroll scored against them.

If we are planning on spending most of the time in our own half hoofing away possession then you may be right.  Personally I much prefer the way we have been playing recently with the ball on the ground.
Playing Chelsea is not the time to bring back Carra especially as we are now on a run of clean sheets

If we play as we have since Kenny took over, we can beat these c*nts...let them play torres for 90 mins we will, and i am confident of this, beat them if we play as we have been...gerrard making his amazing bursting runs which have came back into his game can potentially rip apart their defence...hope suarez can bag one or two aswell!

Torres or no Torres, I have the same burning ambition to beat Chelsea at the Bridge as I always have.  We are undoubtedly the underdog.  But I prefer it that way bacause it gives us more to play for (if there already isn't enough).  Real Madrid told us they would win at anfield 4-0 before we thrashed them by the same margin.  Inter told us they could score 11 goals against us before we beat them at the San Siro. We will go out to win and we will win.

It's a hard one for me to call, but given that we find Stamford Bridge a hard place to get anything, perversely I think this works in our favour.

In the current rebuilding phase, no-one would expect us to win - so there's almost no pressure on the lads in that respect. There will however, be enormous pressure on Chelsea to keep their chase of the Mancs alive. If we pressure them and play some of that free-flowing, unpredictable football we saw against Stoke (though I recognise we'll need a much tougher defensive formation) we could spring a surprise.

It'll be great to give them a run around, and I fancy Stevie and Raul to pop some frighteners at the goal. A good, fear-free performance from the lads is important, less so the result.
“These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman... What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value.” (Thomas Paine)

Nah, cant see Roman allowing that to be honest. He'll start, there is no reason for him not to. It'll probably be the same line-up as they had against sunderland with Torres taking Kalou's place.

JT wants warm welcome for Cole

Chelsea captain John Terry hopes fans give Joe Cole a good reception in Sunday's clash with Liverpool.

"Joe gave everything for this club and hopefully the fans will recognise that and give him the reception he deserves," explained Terry.

"He is a Chelsea boy, even when he was at West Ham he said he was a Chelsea boy as a kid.

"I was sorry to see him go, others were too. That's why I'm 100 per cent sure he'll get a great reception."

Terry remains close friends with Cole and despite the fact that he has endured a slow start to life at Anfield he is backing the midfielder to come good.

"He's a great lad and I'm still in contact with him," Terry continued.

"I watched his debut and him getting sent off - he should never have been sent off.

"Then he picked up a knock but he is confident in his own ability and me too.

"I'm sure he will have a huge part to play for Liverpool."

but i can assure you JT that torres wont be getting any +ve response from reds

Actually forgot about him, I highly doubt he will start if he even plays. But I have given up guessing KK formations
