We wasnt on the verge of selling our best striker for £50,000,000 though

We did however sell our best centre midfield pairing for £50m and never replaced either properly

you can't make the distinction can you? Here's a clue...

Luis Suarez £22m  ------>  :wave  :lickin

Andy Carroll £35m  ------->  :o  :butt

The fee we paid isn't Carroll's fault. I'm chuffed we've got two dangerous strikers rather than one sulking one who wanted out.

So you won't be "supporting" him/us then?

Good..

Erm, no.

We could have Glenn Beck up front for all I care, as long as we're winning I'm not that bothered.

Apparantly Carroll is better than Torres.

Hmm, he hasn't even signed for us yet and the knives are already out. Better to judge him after he's actually played some games for us? Nah not on here.

If he scores 25+ goals a season then he'll be worth the crazy money, scored 11 for Newcastle in half a season. Encouraging stuff.

So why call him a twat when he hasn't even kicked a ball for us then?

I think we overpayed for him, we are making a serious gamble here.
Hope this ends well.

Yes but its not our money, apparently Chelsea can wire it straight to the Tyne.

So that's our three main attacking players with assault charges of differing types in the last year, we certainly won't be seen as an easy touch anymore. Our three main tattoed boys will look like pussycats now, We are big fat Gypsy Wedding now. Soto and Carroll up for every corner I say, Bolton beware.

Enjoy because caring too much hurts

p.s. watch Torres fail his medical now and stay

Fair play to the posters who might be disenchanted with this signing, it looks a lot of money for a 'possibility'. That said, I hope he does the shirt and himself proud. If he can save the battering for the matches (never mind the outside world, I'm worried about training. I want us to be able to field a team each week), he might, under the watchful eye of KK, develop into something of an asset for the club.

All the best in Red, AC.

1987 Dalglish sold the best striker in England (rush) and signed 3 up and coming but unproven players at that level (Barnes, Aldridge and Beardsley) and they say that season was the best Liverpool side ever. Wonder if Suarez, Carroll and Adam could be the 2011 version

Is your complete blindness to the lad's track record deliberate or unintentional ?

We are not talking about what he may do, we are talking about what he has already done at the age of 22. Injured himself while pissed in a casino, attacked a woman and received a Police caution, convicted of assault after pleading guilty, broke a team mates jaw in training, had his car burned out and was up until a month ago on bail for yet another assault.

All this in a one team City like Newcastle.

Didn't Suarez bite someone as well? What a scary strikeforce we now have. Guted about Torres but he has been awful for over a year. 50 mil is an inflated value of Torres IMO and in turn 35mil is inflated for Carroll. Carroll being the more overinfalted admittedly. (add the british player inflation as well)

We now have a strike force of power and class. The can both give us 6 -8 solid years, and have the potential to get better.

Can Suarez and Carroll be ant worse than Torres on his own for the last 12 months. The prices do not upset me, its Torres going to a rival that does. Are Drogba / Torres better than Suarez / Carroll... i am afraid it appears to be but ask the same queation in 3 years time and it will be a different question. We have made a move for the future. lets face it we are out of most things this season anyway.

I am well chuffed with the signing, think he will turn out to be immense for us.

Cost a little higher than expected :o but such things happen when you get a surprise Torres bombshell at the end of the x-fer period.

Torres = twat.
Carroll = twat.

Probably true. But (wrongly) this is the nature of football now. Dog eat dog. Maybe it always was like that actually, its just so much more 'showbiz' now, 24hr Sports News and the like.

Whomever it was we were to buy to replace Torres, we were going to tread on some fans' toes somehow.

Chelsea and Torres did it to us. We did it to Newcastle for Carroll. Newcastle will do it to Ipswich for Connor.

I remember when we sold Rushie to Juventus and thought the world was coming to an end - and then we got Barnes, Beardlsey and Aldo - this reminds me of that.... Wonder if we'll get a 3rd big signing tonight!

I don't remember it as I was only a twinkle in me dads eye but I was reading Brian Reade's book and was on the chapter about that season last night, so maybe Adam can make it a similar deal.

Sucks that he's crocked for a while though, but could be a great signing (Torres for 15m+Carrol,  hmmm)
I remember I was in bed with Paul Bearer making proper passionate love to him, and then all of a sudden he was tossing me off. I woke up at around 3am thinking "what the fuck was that?" Only to find my left hand covered in you know what

The net spend for this window isn't terrible anyway.

You mean like when we all pissed ourselves laughing when they bought Rooney in the first place?

Rooney had lit up a Tournament for England and was one of the hottest properties in Europe, Somebody lit up Carrols' car and Nolan's house was the hottest property in the Street.

This time last year Carrol had scored 3 goals for a Newcastle side that were tearing up the Championship.

You either bring someone in like Carrol on the cheap and iron out his personal problems or you let him grow up and then pay £39.5m for him. What you don't do is spunk £39.5m on a totally unproven walking one man crime wave and hope you can return him to the straight and narrow
One thing does need to be said: in the post-Benitez era, there was media-led clamour (but also some politicking going on at the club) to make the club more English; the idea being that the club had lost the very essence of what it means to be ‘Liverpool’. Guillem Ballague 18/11/10

Furious. Also hearing we are getting Adam in for 9mil as well. Selling Torres for 50million then spending 44 million on Andy Carroll and Charlie Adam is fucking lunacy. Frighteningly incompetent.

A year ago you could have probably got the pair of them for 5 million pounds. Now after half a season in the premiership they are now worth 44 million pounds. Like fuck they are.  Neither of them have even a full season at the top level. One has concerns over his mental state and ability to stay out of prison and one has concerns over his weight and fitness levels. And we go and pay 44 million.

Decent enough players but with proper scouting and good negotiators you could do so much damage with 44 million. Way better than Carroll and Adam. I am fucking seething. When will the bad decisions stop.

Fee is because he is 22, English and because it is transfer deadline day. It's a huge fee but it's not the players fault, I'd rather have a £35mil Andy Carroll who wants to be at Anfield than a £50 mil Torres that doesn't.

If you're influenced by your friends into hitting your girlfriend then you're a tool.

Very fair point. Was that the incident that was supposed to have happened outside a nightclub or was this a separate one? Weren't the charges dropped?

What I was trying to say was that it was interesting that for all the issues off the field he had had very few on the pitch. Players like Bowyer and Barton are on short fuses whatever and will always be liabilities. I drew a parallel with Woodgate because he also was pretty well behaved on the pitch, despite being a nightmare off it in his youth (which I remember seeing him attribute to failing to cut his ties with mates from his childhood). I think there is a big difference between being somebody with no control of their temper in any circumstances and somebody who is young and can't hold his drink. All the latter has to do is make sure they don't go out on the lash, which for the amount of money they make shouldn't be too much to ask.

Obviously the worrying incident is the training pitch one. Although when you read the provocation he was subject to you can't help but feel some sympathy.

Alan Shearer on Andy Carroll on BBC Five Live: "Off the field he has been in trouble once or twice before - that would be the major area of concern for me. I spoke to Kenny months ago before he even came to Liverpool about the potential of Carroll. Kenny got myself and Chris Sutton and myself and Mike Newell together at Blackburn and he probably sees Carroll and Suarez as a similar partnership - both can score goals. Andy Carroll is unplayable on his day. We might see Charlie Adam there and with Steven Gerrard and his tremendous right foot - if you get balls into box for those guys it will be a hell of a partnership."

Suarez I feel will become world class. Carroll I think will become very very very good.

This can only be a good thing.
"He worshipped expertness of any kind. He loved his work passionately and had no tolerance for anything save for other single-track devotions. He was a master in his own field and felt no sympathy except for mastery. His view of the world was simple: there were the able, and there were the incompetent; he was not concerned with the latter."
