The idea that paying even £1M for a player is reasonable is unbelievable to me, so I'm not going to get caught up in the figures. If the oweners want to invest that much, great!

They may be prepared to invest now, but they want return on their investment. Somehow I find it hard to believe that a club will pay 35M+ for Carroll in the future. He won't sell as many shirts as Torres and I seriously doubt he'll deliver 20 goals/season. Which is not just a fair expectation, but an absolute must with that price tag.
