Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here but am I correct in stating that the Mirror says Chelsea are offering £60m, while the Times is saying LFC got offered £35m? Those are two completely different numbers. For £35m I would say no way to selling Torres, but for £60m....ehh I might have to think about that one for a little. I'm leaning towards saying yes, please accept that.

Nah, it looks like LFC have rejected a current bid of around £35 - 40m ....where the "Mirror article" suggests Chelsea might bid up to £60m .....

And NO we shouldn't accept a bid for Torres regardless of the price! :wave

Simple. We have no time to find a replacement. And if the owners are looking at improving the squad, they wouldnt sell him, regardless of the offer.Fernando is key to everything good that can happen to our club.Bring in a Luis Suarez and one more quality player, and see how this team blossoms.
Fernando loves to play under Kenny.

Bringing in Suarez then selling Torres makes absolutely no sense, Torres is is surely worth more than 60million also. Thought this selling Torres rubbish from our supporters was put to bed.

If we were still under Hodsgon I would have been a bit worried.  Under Kenny and new owners who are looking to bring in quality like Suarez, less so, and even though I still think Nando looks a little pissed off atm, that's probably down to this season being almost a write-off as far as honours and trophies go.

Bringing in Suarez then selling Torres makes absolutely no sense,

Read that rational at a Chelsea forum justifying why the bid may be legit.  Comolli has to sell to buy.  Since the Babel transfer was so small and Jova wouldn't go to Wolfsburg, Comolli has to drum up funds to buy Suarez and Adam.

Ah, my question is why would Liverpool sell Fernando Torres to bring in an unproven PL striker and a good midfielder?  I can see why those two would be brought in to help Torres but why bring in those two by selling world class talent?  Sell Torres for Messi or David Villa?  Sure.  Sell Torres for Adam?  Why?

Dude, even for £60 I wouldn't sell... It sends absolutely the wrong message to even think of shipping out an icon of the club (most likely against his wish) to a competing team no less....

Why sell Torres? for any amount of money it would give the completely wrong idea, our best players should be kept no matter what the price. Look at all the quality players West Ham have sold over recent enough years, and they got a good chunk of money for them and look where they are now?...Imagine they had turned down those bids and the players had stayed  :rollseyes

What happened to Abramovich running the club on a business model and not putting his own money in?

Chelsea raiding their piggy banks for Aguero, Luiz and now Torres?

And they still can't buy any of them.
I'm really hoping Sturridge busts out the wacky dip when he scores.

Yip, but I dont think he'll leave! The owners though need to do something about improving the Squad! Chelsea can bid all they like, does not mean they'll be successful

I found this nutjob shite on a Chelsea site.  Can't figure out what VDW or Suarez have to do with this.  Maybe someone else can explain and decode it.

Quote
TORRES BID A TRIPLE WHAMMY RUSE IN MERRY-GO-ROUND?
By dixon9
January 28 2011
Liverpool have confirmed that we have offered £35 million for Fernando Torres. “Chelsea have made a bid for Fernando which has been turned down,” confirmed a Liverpool suit. “The player is not for sale.”  With only three days of the transfer window left, the offer smacks of a wild card catalyst to spark off a chain reaction which involves Udinese’s Sanchez, Aguero from Atletico Madrid,  Liverpool target Luiz Suarez from Ajax, Van de Wiel from the same club and finally David Luiz from Benfica.

The Torres offer was certainly expected to be turned down; the bid was too low, and the new owners – although desperate for cash – were always unlikely to be willing to upset new manager and Liverpool fan’s favourite Dalglish.

So why make the offer then?  Well, it was always worth a try given Liverpool’s current difficulty in shifting Ajax’s stance in selling them Luis Suarez, with their £12.8million bid falling well short of the required £21million.

Ajax in need

But Suarez isn’t the only issue here.  Ajax are in need of some cash injection and are prepared to sell defender Van der Wiel to solve their problem if no agreement is reached with Liverpool for Suarez by Saturday.

“Anything can happen at the moment,” said Van der Wiel’s agent Slimani.

“I think if one of the clubs wants him, he would have to think about it. The main thing is that Ajax will have to make a decision about that.

“But at the moment nothing is concrete, there is no offer on the table. He still has a contract for five years, so it all depends on Ajax and whether they are willing to let him go, and whether Luis Suarez joins Liverpool.”

The pressure is on and an increased offer from Chelsea for Torres would give Liverpool the cash needed for the deal with plenty to spare.

Van der Wiel latecomer enters the fray?

The pot thickens with the availability of a much cheaper £8.8million Van der Wiel possibly persuading Benfica to stop delaying and seal up the deal with Chelsea for David Luiz.  Benfica want €25 million (£21.5m) plus one young player – apparently Nemanja Matic – which would put the total fee at around €30m.  The Portuguese club also have an investment fund group “Benfica Stars” who are anxiously awaiting their €6.25m cut.

 Sanchez Udinese FP

"El Niño Maravilla"

Chelsea have also been negotiating with Udinese for their much lauded striker Sanchez.  Udinese are adamant they will only let Sanchez go for £25 million and we are reportedly prepared to go to a maximum of £22m.  Could the Torres bid drive Udinese towards accepting our slightly lower offer?

Long-term Target

Ditto re the situation with our interest in Atletico Madrid’s Sergio Aguero.  Reports claim we have again gone back to the Spanish club with a new offer for their striker.  The much publicised Torres offer could also serve to persuade them to grab our money.

There’s a big poker game going on at the moment; who will blink first?  Who will win and who will lose?
If you are first you are first. If you are second you are nothing- Bill Shankly

Woke up to this shit story. Do not sell Torres for any price. His armband PROVED he was a red, he is the best attacker in the world and he doesn't go ANYWHERE!

Time to really show your loyalty Torres. And time for us to stay cool. Even if they do bid £65M, what the hell will we use those peanuts on? It buys us 3 Suarez's. Not nearly as much as we could get with Torres. And money isn't everything on the transfer market. We are NOT a club who sells our loyal and fantastic players whatever the hell the price is. We have to do something. A petition! To Tom! To Fernando! Fuck, we have to do something!!

I'm going to implode............
