was he? didn't notice! first time in a while then surely. not seen or heard much about him bar the odd UEFA cup games. wasn't he £2M? With Skrtel off form, maybe he should get a bit of playing time.

He's just turned 19, plenty of time for him to develop at his own pace yet, there's no rush for him to start games.

Hard to get a game with 4 CB's in front of him. I reckon we should loan him to Blackpool or someone like Blackpool

But right now we have one CB who's come back from a long injury, one who is off form, one who is injured and one who is hairy and not very good. Also we have one young CB who seems to be thriving at RB.

He's arrived with a good reputation and he's been willing to take the gamble on joining a side with 4 senior centre-backs (as one of three young centre-backs)...if he's 5th choice (at absolutle best) with us, then he needs a move, not even necessarily to a side where he's one the pitch but to a club whereby he's at least first pick to the bench.

Our young centre-backs (including Martin Kelly) are very good...in a year or two, Carra, Kyrgi, and possibly Skrtel, will be held in very different positions at the club - we just need a little realism and confidence.

Probably. Just shows where football's at when a 19 year old with one appearance under his belt is being called not good enough.

I think that's largely irrelevant. Even if you rate Skrtel & Kyrgiakos poorly they are still ahead of Wilson and when Carra is back in a week or two it gets even more bleak for Wilson. He needs to be paying football this season. If he can go out on loan and perform well there's a good chance we won't renew Kyrgiakos' contract in summer and he can force himself into 4th choice as CB. The next 6 months could be the most crucial for him in his Liverpool career.

6 years ago then!

point is, i dont see kelly as a CB in a few years, he shows great turn of pace, can ghost round defenders. Get some work on his crossing and he will be a fine defender.

anyway, this is a danny wilson thread. is he a dominating in the air type of CB? because thats what skrtel should be, yet isnt.

Watched his game against Faroe Islands and I've been following him in the reserves as well. He is a good player and I am certain he'll make it at this club. He has every attribute, he's quick, tall, good in the air, good with the ball at his feet, and an absolute nightmare to defend on set pieces. Can't believe some people are already slating him on here. I know Kenny has mentioned his name a few times and the fact that he made the bench over the Greek is certainly a sign that Kenny rates him.

Have a mate who is a massive Rangers fan and was gutted when he left. Not to mention, people forget, he has Champions League experience. I'm sure he'll get thrown out there sooner or later.

I do find it unsettling that members of our "fanbase" are slating him when they haven't even seen him play, just because he hasn't been out there enough. He played well in our Europa League match too against Bucharest I believe. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Definitely one for the future and I'm sure we'll see him out there down the line.

I don't think anyone is slating him. It's just suspicious and indeed inauspicious that we haven't seen him when we have a CB crisis that I think we are having right now. But getting ahead of Greek on the bench is a positive.

He's a great prospect and only 19 years old. However I'll have to re-evaluate my opinion based on your extremely knowledgeable and detailed analysis of the player.

Sadly if Wilson's getting on the bench ahead of him then I don't think Ayala has a future here, which is a real shame, because he's the only CB we have who has played consistently well this season, albeit at championship level. But really, now would be the perfect time for Ayala to get some time on the bench or even on the pitch - on paper he's exactly what we need right now. If he's not even getting on the bench where Wilson is he isn't likely to suddenly jump up the pecking order he's inexplicably been shifted to the bottom of as Wilson matures and improves further. I was very much hoping he'd get a chance under Kenny but I don't think it's going to happen.
Going by the stories in the Scottish Papers today Celtic tried to get him on loan till the end of the Season but Kenny turned it down
Seems to me like it would have been a good move, again though if true it tells you that Wilson is seen as a first team possibility, where Ayala presumably isn't. Not really sure what exactly Wilson's done to deserve that over Ayala but that's no criticism of him, he looks like a very promising player and I'm really looking forward to seeing more of him. Along with Kelly and Ayala he's the reason I don't want us buying any CBs either now or in the summer - we've got talent enough already in the squad.

He is not good enough yet, but he has the potential to be a future starting CB for us no doubt about it. He will get his chance to prove he can play, but he will have to be patient and he knows that, he knew the CB situation here when he joined. His exclusion is bit of none story.
