Wolves 0-3 Liverpool - 22/01/11
« on: January 22, 2011, 12:53:56 am »
Wolverhampton Wanderers         v         Liverpool Football Club

Date:                 21 January 2011
Kick-off Time:  12:45PM GMT
Venue:              Molineux, Wolverhampton

Team News:-
M Jovanovic        Illness                        doubtful
J Cole                 Ankle/Foot Injury       slight doubt
J Carragher        Dislocated Shoulder   unavailable
S Gerrard           Suspended

Lineups to follow in due course.

Ex-Red Adam Hammill in line to make his Wolves debut against his boyhood club.

Liverpool are still smarting from the defeat at Anfield just a few weeks back and hopefully a few of the players feel they have some scores to settle. I've been very impressed with the changes Kenny has made to us, style wise, so far. However it has yet to be rewarded with results. We've also seen a marked change in Torres' attitude on the pitch which can only be good news for us. He looks ready now to start off on a blitz of form once more. My God do we need him to!

Don't think this we be an easy game by any stretch of the imagination. Recent wins against us and Chelsea have given their confidence a lift, as has their fighting display against Manchester City. My heart is saying Dalglish's first win and 3 points though. Head saying a draw.

Oh and if anybody wants to PM me their predictions for the game.... be it result, who you would like in the starting lineup, first scorer, first yellow card, how many minutes before the travelling Kop chant for Suarez, or any other random prediction of things you believe might occur during the game, supernatural or otherwise.... I'll try to do something of a summary/statistical analysis in the buildup to the game.

I'm going for Torres first yellow, Lucas first goal, Pacheco to get his first league start and the travelling Kop to belt out a fantastic rendition of "get yer tits out for the lads" to Elokobi who has a cracking set of man boobs I must say! I'd like to see Suso on the bench also but it's about a year too soon I think.

Christian Poulsen starts for Liverpool at Wolves this lunchtime. Listen live online from 12.40pm GMT.

Kenny Dalglish has made one change from the derby, with Jay Spearing dropping to the bench.

The Liverpool team in full is:

Reina, Kelly, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Maxi, Lucas, Poulsen, Kuyt, Meireles, Torres.
Subs: Gulacsi, Cole, Konchesky, Aurelio, Spearing, Kyrgiakos, Shelvey.

Assume we'll be lining up as follows then:-

Reina

Kelly   Skrtel   Agger   Johnson

Poulsen
Lucas   Meireles

Kuyt                             Maxi
Torres

Disappointed to see neither Suso or Pacheco on the bench. I realise this is too soon for Suso of course but Pacheco not being there grates me a little. Also, why have both Konchesky and Aurelio on the bench? That's just using up two spaces for the price of one. Still reckon this team is good enough to do the job though. Come on you REDMEN. Just 50 mins to KO!

This is as pure as it gets baba. It's all or nothing. 3points up for grabs. Nothing less than a win will do mate. We have the players. We have the talent. We need a wee bit of luck.

I won't be able to co-commentate ax I just landed in sunny SIngapore and will be at the east of anfield pub watching the match and starting a riot.

Have fun and Win this for muffy.

This is what we do. And we do it very well. Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bM8gOyjeuc

A bit shocked. No recognized striker on the bench but a full complement of midfielders and left sided players. Hope this doesn't backfire on us.

Have fun in Singapore.... but not too much, I just don't have the money to bail you out anymore from prison! And remember the golden rule, take whatever age she says she is and subtract 5 for the truth.

Yep, 3 points are very much needed but I don't think this is the walk in the park some fans believe. Wolves are a very well organised outfit these days and always raise their games against the big boys in the league. Still think we can do them though. ALthough hoping for "a wee bit of luck" with Martin Atkinson in charge really is pissing into the wind!

Agree on the striker situation and you would feel a hell of a lot happier to see Suarez's name on the bench today chomping at the bit (of Aurelio's shoulder) to get on and fire us to victory. Maybe next week :D

Thank the lord for that news. Thought Kenny had gone nuts naming two left backs and no center forwards on the bench! Hope the little guy gets the chance to stretch his legs!

Wolves line-up
« Reply #8 on: January 22, 2011, 12:33:50 pm »
Wayne Hennessey
Ronald Zubar
Christophe Berra
Richard Stearman
Stephen Hunt
Karl Henry
Matthew Jarvis
Nenad Milijas
Kevin Doyle
Stephen Ward
Steven Fletcher

Substitutes
Marcus Hahnemann
Jody Craddock
Steven Mouyokolo
David Jones
Adam Hammill
David Davis
Sam Vokes

So Hamill's first ever game against Liverpool will have to come from the bench today. No Ebanks Blake who had a very good game against us at Anfield I thought without the goals to show for it. Milijas needs to be watched if around the box as he has a thumping shot on him. All in all though, I'm sure we can take that lot.

1 minute to KO

The teams are being led out today by Pepe Reina and Karl Henry. We also have a female lines-woman today. Expecting to hear her get some sexist whistling and jeers during the game. I'll try to keep them to a minimum but sometimes I just can't help myself.

Apparantly the rather bland looking lady is called Sian Massey, lives locally and this is her second time running the line in the Premier League.

Wolves ready to KO here!

We're off and Liverpool looking shaky in defence playing head tennis from Wolves punt forward. Agger should have done better with that. Results in a Wolves FK from wide left but Reina claims it with ease.

YELLOW CARD POULSEN

Liverpool's corner comes to nothing. Wolves counter down their left, Poulsen comes across and fouls. Atkinson seeing the oppertunity to win some brownie points with his bosses, shows an immediate yellow.

Liverpool make a brilliant chance for Lucas down the right. Throw in to Torres, back to Johnson who plays a delicious through pass into the box into Lucas' path. Brilliant run watching the replay, unmarker.

A few CB's charge across and block his shot. Good play though again by the Reds. We're making chances despite being sloppy in possession at times

Watching on a dodgy veetle link, still refusing to pay for Sky ;)

Early signs are that this is hardly going to be a walk in the park and if Poulsen carries on like he is then he'll be taking an early walk off the park. Still, he's made two decent passes......in the same game......and in the same half......signs of progress under Kenny? ;)

This pitch is fucking awful. I can see someone getting hurt here today.

I honestly thought it was the poor quality of my stream :D .... if that's the pitch, then it really is awful! The wolves half doesn't even appear to have grass!

Is Kenny's playing of Poulsen him giving the Dane a chance to prove himself - you know, clean slate and all - or does it represent the paucity of squad options available to him currently do you think?

I'm not sure to be honest. I don't see any benefit from playing the guy as Spearing and Shelvey have both looked more impressive than him in recent times and they will benefit from the experience of playing.

Woohoo, stream back :)

First 15 summary: disjointed, scrappy, physical. Poulsen "on form" :wave , more action in our penno area than in theirs. Typical away game so far, all that's missing is a goal. To them ;)

The lack of commentary is due to a lack of action. Not a reflection on us I assure you.

VERY scrappy game. Lots of throw ins around the half way line, long clearances, blocked passes etc.

Saying that, Meireles cross is blocked for a corner. Swung in by Meireles and Torres flick is blocked for another corner. Comes to nothing though and Wolves clear to Reina

Possession 65/35 for Liverpool in the first 20 minutes. Wolves are being VERY direct though so they are hardly seeing the ball in midfield.

Ball over the top to Torres, cuts inside his marker and is 1 on 1 with Hennessy. Takes the early shot low into the bottom right corner but the keeper makes a good save.

Stearman now trying to pick a fight with Torres.

Spearman fouls Torres again. That's the 5th or 6th Wolves foul but still the only yellow card of the game is to Poulsen.

Ref speaking to Spearman and Torres now. No doubt asking Nando the number of a good hair stylist.

WOlves striker is backing into Agger at the edge of the box. Agger and (Doyle I think) stumble over each other. FK given to Wolves right on the edge of the area but to the right corner of the box. Milijas to take.

VERY high and central. Reina would have saved it if it was 1/2 a mile lower.

Meireles down after taking a whack in the face off the ball. Looks like Henry stalk his arm across his path when he was running.

Atkinson is fucking useless. Let's be fair, that wall was nowhere near 10 yards away, the fucking ted.

I agree!

Most interesting thing I've seen since kick-off is a PM from our very own chocolate bar logistical placement chief....

It's a hideous cottage pie of a pitch at Molyneux.  I hope we tap them for compensation if any of our players tweak a ligament today.  Their groundsman must've got a new pogo stick for Christmas.   :o

A very scrappy game here in midfield. Lucas passing well out of trouble but the ball is given away by Kuyt, then Maxi with a weak tackle in a 50-50. Poulsen nowhere to be seen in a midfield battle. Worrying.

Free kick given against Lucas now. Liverpool looking very frustrated with Lucas talking back to the ref and Raul having a go about the earlier foul on him also.

Wolves gameplan here is clearly play long to their strikers who will back into Agger and Skrtel to win freekicks or to try and control and hold up the ball. Wolves playing a high line which TOrres has already gotten behind.

Best chance of the game. Lucas plays in Torres on the right edge of the Wolves box. Torres lifts the ball to the center of the box, 25 yards out and Raul stops to half volley no less than a yard wide. Very good strike and if it was on target would have been a goal.
