Debate about engagement with the LFC Supporters' Committee will be a significant part of the Union's AGM on the 12th at Zeligs (before the Wigan match).

The meeting will be on delayed stream and there will be full online voting for members on the resolutions at the AGM.

Announcement and details coming out over the next couple of days.

Excellent news! Fan participation in action.

This diverse and (in the main) respected committee wil ensure that we pick a "team" that is truly representative of all LFC fans - and I'm sure the communication with all fans from both this forum and the club will be improved significantly.

SOS helped keep the pressure on H & G but a new positive generation of owners calls for a new, positive generation of engagement with all LFC fans.

Good move FSG

Something underlined by the Union's members overwhelmingly agreeing to engage with this new idea and hopefully getting representation upon it.

3705 applications put in.

Every application to be vetted by the Committee. 3705 x say an average of 400 words per application = 1.48m. Some task.......

Another thought - it says they'll be handed 3 folders, which seems a strangely specific number to admit to, especially with 3700 applications - you'd be hard pressed, even if you did it double sided, to fit 1300 or so applications into one folder, surely? 500 words is about a side of A4.

Perhaps these three folders will be

a) a massive one with a load of rejects
b) a fairly full one with some ok candidates in, and
c) a much slimmer one with the ones the club have shortlisted/flagged up

That way the club can say they've provided the panel with all the applications, but in truth I just can't see anyone ploughing through all 3700 and coming to a decision on all of them. There just aren't enough hours in the day, and there has to be some shortlisting done by the club at some point, even if it's weeding out those who don't fit the criteria, those who've used more than 500 words and any that have come back barely legibly.

Presumably unsuccessful candidates might ask for some transparency about the process bearing in mind the number involved and the fact that the selection Committee have a mammoth task to trawl through this many applications.

Aside from them publishing their selection criteria or scoring system, I think you'd struggle to get them to give more specific reasons for suitability/unsuitability for each application, it just gets too messy. I'd imagine they'd go for a simple email or letter saying 'Thank you for your application but in this instance you have been unsuccessful.' etc.

As a complete side issue, I wonder how many of the people who applied are famous fans? I also thought there would be significantly more people applying to have the chance to work so much more closely with the club. It must be a time issue.

Thought there would be a lot more than 3705, over 18 categories that's only an average of 206 per category. I would also assume that the majority of applications were in the 4 most popular categories listed (UK, Merseyside, International, U18s). Do you think applicants will be informed before 29th March or is everyone just meant to look on the website then to find out?

Do you think applicants will be informed before 29th March or is everyone just meant to look on the website then to find out?

Some of the categories were taken from pretty small constituencies, though - ST holders and the Anfield/Breckfield rep can only come from a maximum of 25k or so. How many are realistically going to apply from these (and who might not consider applying for other positions, ie if you're a season ticket holder who lives outside Merseyside, you might apply for the UK position and not the ST one). How many disabled supporters visit Anfield regularly - a few hundred? How many over 60s are savvy enough with the net to visit the official site and want to apply online? I might've expected a few more than 3-4k, but not by much.

Would imagine that shortly prior to 29th March the chosen candidates will be informed (because the club will need to set them up on the Kop social media thingy and a few other admin things and they'll need to know that they'll be getting emails/online hate campaigns against them). Doubt they'll just spring it on you on the 29th - someone might be chosen and not check the official website for a while, which wouldn't look good. Also the form asked for contact details, didn't it?

They also said that there'd be two 'reserve' candidates chosen for each position in case someone dropped out - would image they'd need to be told as well.

I think you'll be totally vindicated on that fella. There's no way really that they can seriously start from scratch and read them fairly never mind actually choose a committee, especially as i cannot see how they will even remotely choose two identical candidates on their own shortlists.

And here we go

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/lfc-supporters-committee-latest

Rather than one meeting in Liverpool to debate and agree all 18 Members of the Committee, as originally planned, there will now be four separate meetings spread over the next few months - with the selection panel considering a number of the 17 different categories at each meeting.

In the interests of absolute fairness and transparency, the Club are making every single application available to the panel and the first two folders of applications - there are six in total, containing 3,705 pages - have been delivered to the selection panel today.

The categories that will be considered in the first meeting of the selection panel this month include:

1. Under 18s
2. Ethnic Minority Supporters
3. Female Fans (To address issues specific to women)
4. Family Supporters
5. Season Ticket Holders
6. Disabled Supporters
7. Supporters in Anfield / Breckfield
8. Away game attending supporters
9. Corporate fans (Fans who have enjoyed corporate facilities watching LFC)

A second meeting will take place in April to debate any of the above categories that couldn't be concluded in the first meeting and also the applications from the following groups:

10. LGBT Supporters (Fans from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities)
11. Over 60s
12. General Admission Anfield attendees
13. LFC Official Supporters Clubs
14. Supporters in the Merseyside postal code area
15. All Red Members (Fans belonging to the official Club membership scheme)

Two final meetings will convene at a later date to debate the two most heavily subscribed to categories:

16. Supporters in the UK (outside of Merseyside)
17. International fans (Two fans)

By splitting the process into four stages, it clearly means we will not be in a position to announce the composition of the LFC Supporters' Committee as originally planned on March 29th.  However, by requesting more time,  the selection panel have demonstrated a real commitment to making the necessary time available to properly consider the merits of all of those who applied.

The Club would like to thank all supporters who applied and we hope to be in a position to announce the final make up of the Liverpool FC Supporters Committee before pre-season.

That would look like no Committee until the new season due to the number of applicants and the work to be done.

I wonder if the Club will engage with the Union in the meantime?

Really. The people who get the job on the committee will have a lot of work to do(it will be like having another job, as you know) but a committee is totally different to a union.

It will be a lot hard for a committee to get the feeling of what the fans want or to get fans involvement.

I see no reason why the union can't be involved in the engagement with fans as well.

I have no doubt that as long as the Union sees engagement with the SC as worthwhile and productive that it will be involved closely with the SC members.

I know it will also offer assistance and logistical support to members of the SC as well.

Im disappointed that its taking longer than expected, but encouraged that they are doing the process justice by putting the time in.  Logic would suggest that LFC should still engage with SOS until the SC is setup

Supporters' Committee latest

The seven-person selection panel which was put together to review the 3,705 nominations to form the new
Liverpool FC Supporters' Committee met for the final time on Friday and concluded the selection process.

Every application was reviewed and over the course of two exhaustive meetings the selection panel agreed on the 18 people who will make up the Supporters' Committee.

Over the next few days the club will be contacting the individuals who have been selected and an announcement to officially unveil all 18 people will be made in due course.

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/how-we-chose-the-fans-committee

On January 22, Liverpool FC unveiled plans for a new 18-person supporter consultation group that it hopes will allow fans to help shape the club's future through regular and constructive dialogue with senior LFC officials.

Almost 4,000 applications were received by the Club and a seven-personal selection panel was formed to review every application and jointly agree the best 18 candidates for the Liverpool FC Supporters’ Committee (http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/lfc-supporters-committee).

On Friday May 20, the 18 fans who have made it onto the Committee will be unveiled on this website.

Ahead of that announcement, this is the story of the selection panel in their own words. Click here to watch a free video of these interviews>> http://alturl.com/fttd2

Sue Johnston, Season Ticket holder and actress: I've thought about why I was on the Committee quite a lot. I think I'd sort of come into several of the categories that were there - obviously the female one, over 60s, I'm a season ticket holder and have been a Liverpool fan since I was a child, and now I have to travel to games a lot. I have a great understanding for an awful lot of those categories, and I think that's perhaps my input. I also travel to away games, I go a lot and so I meet fans and there's nothing better than being with the travelling Kop when they're playing away. I feel as though I do genuinely know the fans and I was really proud to be picked to choose the fan base.

Dave Boyle, CEO, Supporters Direct: In my day job I am the Chief Executive of an organisation called Supporters Direct and because we're not connected with the Club, or any of the groups at the Club, we were asked if we wanted to be an independent body on this panel to help select these people. As somebody who is not a Liverpool fan, it's another set of eyes, a bit more distance and another point of view, but somebody who deals on a day-to-day basis with fans' rights and fans being involved in, and being consulted by, clubs. We've got a professional background, which is helpful.

Jack Stopforth, CEO, Liverpool Chamber of Commerce: In my day job I am Chief Executive at Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, so of course I spend most of my life in fairly heavyweight business meetings either with clients, our own organisation or with other boards and panels. I think what Ian Ayre was hoping I could bring would be a degree of that business expertise and a background working in those sorts of environments because although this is about the fans, it's about what the fans can do for the Club, so it's very much a type of business proposition.

Karen Gill, Teacher, Author and Granddaughter of Bill Shankly: I thought it was an incredible idea. I was really impressed by the owners' willingness to commit to something like this. It's something innovative and I'm really glad I was able to be part of it.

Dave Boyle: I've been doing this job at Supporters Direct for 10 years and this is the first time a top-flight club - not just any Premier League club, but one of the top club's in the country - has been on the phone to us and said, 'Can you help us out?' That was big of the Club, it doesn't happen every day, and I've been enormously impressed with not just the personal interactions I've had with the people at the Club, but from start to finish the diligence of the people on the panel has been matched by the way the Club have supported it. As somebody who has another job to do, I've found the way the Club have helped me do my bit of the job has been fantastic. It's just been serious from start to finish and there's no way anybody could say that this is somehow a half-hearted process or there are some flaws in it. It's just been great.

Sue Johnston: I thought it was a tremendous idea. I think it's a great idea for any club and I love it that we were the first to think of it. I was very proud that it was happening to our Club because we've got such a remarkable fan base. I also feel it's something the fans really appreciate, mainly because we all want to have a voice - we all want to think we have a voice that's going to be heard. In this way, we can be heard. Even if you're not selected on the Committee, you have a representative who will speak for you. The response to it and the applications have been so overwhelming, that it's obvious there was a need for it and I think the fans really appreciate the fact we're forming this Committee.

Dave Boyle: I'm well disposed towards the Club, but I'm not a Liverpool fan. I've not got any axes to grind and I've not got any role within the Club, so having somebody who is just there to look at it and say which of the applications look better than the others, that's certainly the view I've been putting forward, as has everybody else on the panel to be fair.

Ian Callaghan, LFC record appearance holder: It's been a huge process. There's been over 4,000 applicants, so the panel have had to go through all of these - and fantastic applicants they were too. So to get it down to just 18 people is just unbelievable.

Karen Gill: The long-term goals are to repair the damage that's been done over the last few years and also to give the supporters the chance to voice their opinion about things that really matter. In that way, they will get reward from that - but so will the Club as well. I think it's a two-way thing; something the fans will absolutely get something out of, and also the Club as well.

Dave Boyle: It's a great idea and the Club deserve a lot of credit for bringing it forward. I'm not aware of another club in the Premier League who has taken this kind of initiative. There have been fans' forums and there have been meetings occasionally where you'll get the chief executive meeting fan groups, but actually setting up a group which is going to have its own support, going to have people in the Club who are going to be paid to support the people in doing what they're doing and are actually going to listen to what this group says, I think it's a first as far as I'm aware at this level of football in this country and it is to be very much welcomed. I hope other clubs pick up and run with it themselves.

Ian Callaghan: When I was asked to come on the Committee I was very honoured. Having been a Liverpool supporter before I even played for Liverpool, and still certainly a supporter now, I thought it was great they asked me to be on Committee along with the other people.

Karen Gill: For me it was very emotional because a lot of the applications mentioned my granddad's name - so many of them - and a lot of them were very touching and emotive, it made me feel very emotional. Amazing humour again came through in all of the applications. Liverpool supporters are famous for their great humour and it was actually enjoyable. It was hard work, but it was enjoyable and rewarding at the same time.

Dave Boyle: I think everybody was really surprised by how successful this initiative was. Nobody ever mentioned how many applications might be expected, but certainly nobody was talking about 4,000 applications. What has been really heartening is that everybody has read them. There has been no sense of 'I'll just pick out a few' or picking out a mate - nearly everybody's application has been read by everybody. For some of the groups there were just too many and we divided them up amongst ourselves, but every person who has submitted an application, it has been read by somebody. That means the people who we've chosen and the people who have gone forward are there because we know they're the best people for the role amongst the people who applied in that category as we've been able to weigh people's pros and cons up and say whose experience, skills or background makes them most suited. There has been a lot of reading and a lot of work at weekends and in the evenings for people who have got very busy lives as well, but I think that is a testament to the seriousness by which this panel has conducted its business.

Everybody who applied was pretty much a die-hard Liverpool fan, that's absolutely clear. If you're going to represent Liverpool supporters, as it would be with any other club, you've got to be a supporter of the Club. A lot of people spent a lot of time telling us how much of a big fan they are, but I took that as a starting point rather than the end point - I wanted passionate fans who also had something to bring. In some cases that might be their background and experience made them really well-qualified, they're people who in a professional or other capacity know about representing fans, they're good communicators or know how to solicit opinions and consult. Or in other places, it might be because their application showed they were already thinking like a Committee member; they were thinking about what ideas they could bring to the table about places maybe the Club wasn't getting it as right as it would like to and how they think that could be improved. So there are different criteria in different categories, but in all cases there was definitely a sense that this person is going to bring something to this group of people.

Jack Stopforth: By definition, they're all crazy, mad Liverpool supporters and almost every application had a little bit of reminiscence in it. Things like, 'I first came to the game when I was five years of age' and that kind of thing, which was great to read and it's good to see it's coming from very passionate people. Above all, that was all well and good and we took it as red, but we wanted to know what they thought the issues might be - what the issues a supporter from overseas or out of town might encounter, somebody who is on the ever-lasting queue for a season ticket. What did they think the issues are we need to think about as a Club and how can we make things better for the fans? We wanted to see applications not just saying 'I love Liverpool' and 'I'm Liverpool through and through', but also saying 'There are a number of issues the Club need to be aware of and think about.' They're the people we have chosen.

Sue Johnston: We've tried to make it broad and we've got people from all sorts of cross-sections of experience that can articulate and be good in committee situations, and are good at listening and also very good representing - they are a voice for their group, it's not just their opinion. They've got to be able to think as a leader of a group, it's not their voice only. I think we looked very hard and long at all the applicants to find those qualities and it was very difficult because there were so many great applications. It was very hard to pin them down - we could have chosen each category over and over again, and you feel very sad for the people who came very close but have not made it, but the standard was extraordinary so people should not be disappointed if they've not got in because it was amazing.

Ian Callaghan: It's been a long process because we've had to read through the letters and they were of a very, very high standard. It's been a hard process but I think the Committee has done fantastic. We've all seemed to get on well together and all have LFC at heart, so it's been good.

Jack Stopforth: I was amazed by the quantity - over 4,000 applications was just breathtaking - and then the quality. Category by category we could have chosen 10, 15 or 18, which was the total number we were looking for, for each. It was really extraordinarily difficult.

Karen Gill: I was absolutely overwhelmed by the standard. People were so articulate and passionate, and they expressed themselves so well. I wish I could have had everybody on the Committee - it would have been fantastic!

Dave Boyle: I've always taken the view that among the fan base of any club, the level of talent is just astonishing, but it's always quite surprising when you see that on a piece of paper in front of you. There are people who applied for this who are very successful in all different walks of life, and I'm not just talking about business experience, I'm talking about people who've got 30 years' community experience in terms of representing residents or been councillors or involved in charities. It’s across the board and what comes through from all of it is that there are people, who get paid an awful lot of money, who would love nothing more than to do something for free for a football club they love.

Sue Johnston: For the international fans, I found it very hard to hone that down because there were some extraordinary letters and that was the biggest group. I found in the lesbian and gay community, the standard of letters was extraordinary and very hard to pin down and also in the over 60s because of the history they bring because of being involved with the Club since they were small and their wealth of experience in the outside world, the standard was phenomenal. They were quite tricky to find.

Dave Boyle: From personal experience, the category of over 60s was really difficult because there were an incredible amount of people who have lived incredibly interesting lives, been successful, or were very diverse and had amazing experiences, and so you thought you could have picked 18 people out of that category alone. It was such a tough job. For the category of international fans, we're talking 1,000 applications from all over the world and which one is better than another? It was really, really hard. The under 18s category was incredibly hard because there were some fantastic young people who had put themselves forward. In all of these cases, we've selected not just one person, there are other people in case - we've not just picked 18 people, we've probably picked about 40 people in total and every one of them will be able to make a difference and a real contribution. That's a real pleasure - you don't want to be in a position where there was only one person who wasn't much cop, but they'd do. In every case, somebody's on there beating somebody else, who could have easily done the job just as good, to get to that position. That's a really nice position to be in.

Ian Callaghan: Everybody's been very friendly and very supportive. We've listened to each other and I've really enjoyed it. It's been a long process, but an enjoyable one.

Dave Boyle: Everybody's been very respectful. Everybody's been asked to champion the people they think and everybody has engaged with that. There's been no shouting, no animosity or rancour - if somebody has made a good case for somebody to be on this panel, everybody's considered it with respect. I was a bit nervous before the first meeting about how do seven people who don’t know each other decide 18 people out of a pool of 4,000. It could have gone very wrong, but what got through was a real commitment and diligence by the panel, both individually in terms of how they conducted their work, and collectively the meetings have been incredibly smooth. I wish some of the meetings I had in my own organisation ran as smoothly as these ones had.

Ian Callaghan: Obviously they're going to represent the supporters in the categories. Everybody has quibbles with the football club, whether it be season tickets, prices or anything. These people we have selected are going to bring this to the table, and the football club are going to listen to them, which is great for the Club and is fairly unique. It’s never been done before and I think it's a great idea.

Sue Johnston: I feel quite excited that now we will go forward and actually can't wait to meet them because they're a product of all this hard work, and we're going to see this Committee up in action. We feel very confident we've chosen some excellent people who will bring a lot of value to the Club.

Jack Stopforth: I think success would be a realisation amongst the wider fan base that the Club really does care about their opinions. This isn't a stunt, it's not a PR gimmick. This is a genuine attempt by the Club to reach out to its fan base after a very, very unsettled few years. Let's face it, it hasn't been the happiest period in the history of our Club and this is a chance for the fans to feel confident that they're not being ignored or overlooked.

Sue Johnston: I hope what they bring is that we will feel part of this great Club and that our voices will be heard, not just by the board, but by the owners and we won't be so pushed out as we felt over the Hicks and Gillett period. It was shocking how the Club was so disparate, so I think this is a great move to bring it all back.

Karen Gill: Unfortunately a series of events led to the fans feeling disjointed that they didn't have a voice, and I think this is one way the owners can bridge the gap that appeared. I think he'd (Bill Shankly) definitely be behind anything that gave the fans a voice. Working with Spirit of Shankly really opened my eyes to how disjointed the fans did feel. The supporters felt as if they'd lost a voice. I think it showed by working together, organising and having a voice and arranging events that you can actually get things done. This is great because this is taking it one step further - it is a great initiative.

Jack Stopforth: It says so much about the new owners and about Ian (Ayre) as the new MD. I think the Club is absolutely in the right the direction on the field, and now off the field as well. It is very, very encouraging.

Sue Johnston: I feel very confident we have actually made a very good selection. It's very hard from a letter to know if it was the absolute best but you feel hopeful and because we've discussed the final few in great depth, we do feel confident.

Jack Stopforth: If we've done our job properly - and I certainly believe we've done it as diligently as we can - then we ought to be able to look forward to a real contribution towards the Club going forward.

Dave Boyle: From a professional perspective, I'm always pleased when clubs give supporters a chance to make an input into the Club and I just hope these people who are selected come together and add some value to what the Club are doing. I don't want the Club in two or three years' time to say, 'That was a nice idea but it didn't work.' I want other clubs to be doing this as well - and the best way they will take it on board is if they hear people from Liverpool saying, 'We get real value from this - we do things and we've changed things to make this Club's experience better for the fans because of this Committee.' I hope they can fulfil what the Club actually wants from them, which is to provide some really serious input, a sounding board and a way of communicating with fans that just makes the Club even better.

On a more relevant note, I can confirm to all those interested that I have NOT been contacted to be part of the panel. Stop crying at the back there!

Don't suggest that rafared the non-locals will flip because it's their club and with such a wide fanbase the input of the local shouldn't be considered.

As you say bring back the days of going to the ground to collect your ticket it would be an interesting experiment

Revealed: First 6 Committee fans

Representing Supporters in Anfield / Breckfield: James Benson
Born: 1981
Lives: Anfield, Liverpool

Why I wanted to represent this group: As a resident of the Anfield area I would feel privileged and honoured to have a say on what is happening at the club that I love and the area in which I live. I have been a Liverpool FC supported all my life, but you could argue it was even earlier than that, my family are all Liverpool fans and I had no choice who I supported, it was a birthright that was thrust upon me like the family name, but I'm not complaining, I've loved every minute of it (and my kids have been given the same birthright!). I have been an Anfield resident for ten years now and grew up in the Everton area of the city before that. I have lived in north Liverpool all my life and feel that, although the club is not in any way responsible for the area, it should (along with Everton FC) have a moral obligation as residents of the area to involve themselves in helping the area to become better and to help it grow and to become a successful and prosperous area. Having the opportunity to enter into proper dialogue with the club over issues that we all deem as important is an exciting proposal and with the openness and transparency that has been promised I feel it is something that can only benefit the club. As far as what I could offer I feel that I would bring an honesty and forthright opinion that wouldn't be clouded by my love for the club. I would want to listen to all the opinions and to all the considerations for action and hopefully offer a direct and truthful response from the education of listening to those directly involved in the running of the club and not from the words that have been diluted by press or TV that may have a motive for obscuring the truth. This would again, I feel, help the club and help to remove any alienation that the fans may have felt in the past from the club. I am putting myself forward for this role because, as I have said, I would feel honoured to hear about the exciting future of the club from those that have the ability to achieve great things and gain an understanding of what they are trying to do and how they intend to do it. I would like to have a say on how these good things can be done, initially for the present and then for the future of both the club and the city, and hopefully helping to bring these ideas to fruition thereby helping to achieve our aim in securing both a successful club and the rebuilding of an area that desperately needs to be brought up to the standards suited to the home of a championship winning football club and worldwide fan attraction. Thank you for your consideration.

Representing Supporters in the Merseyside postal code area: Paul Rice
Born: 1957
Lives: West Derby, Liverpool

Why I wanted to represent this group: I have been watching LFC since the mid-60's progressing from the Boys' Pen, the Anfield Rd End & the Kop & have now been a season ticket holder in the Lower Centenary since 1989. For the past 3 years I have been heavily involved in Spirit of Shankly, chairing its inaugural meeting before being formally elected as Chair and more recently as Vice Chair & lifetime Vice President in recognition of my work for the organisation. Although disparagingly referred to as "200 divvies" and "sons of strikers" by two thankfully long gone senior officials of the club, SOS proved not only to be the vanguard of fan protests in the removal of the previous owners, but has impressed all that have come across it as a well organised, professional organisation that has gone on to represent its members with credibility and purpose, whether it be dealing with the club, organising away travel or taking up issues with the game's authorities. Indeed only this week we have taken up an invitation to make a submission to the Government inquiry into the governance of football. It is fair to say that SOS now enjoys a positive relationship with the club, remaining an independent, critical friend rather than a confrontational thorn in the side as was unfortunately necessary under the previous regime. It is not just through my involvement with SOS that I have experience of representing the views of a wider constituency. As Chief Executive of Liverpool Commercial District Partnership (of which I am pleased to say LFC is a member!) part of my role is to ensure the best interests of businesses in the Commercial District are articulated and well served in our dealings with public sector agencies. I have over 20 years experience in this type of role, as well as representing members up to and including at national level as a lay trade union official in NALGO/Unison. I was also a member of the board of the Association of Town Centre Management for 12 years, where I represented over 350 town & city centre managers. Although I could have stood for several of the positions on offer, I believe I am best placed to fulfil the Merseyside role. Although nobody could claim to know everybody in the city region, it is fair to say that my professional, SOS and personal networks mean I do know more than the average number of Liverpool fans across a broad cross section of the community. It goes without saying I would also ensure I represent the views of all local supporters through the lines of communication the club is in the process of establishing. Although I have cited my experience with SOS as evidence of my suitability, I believe it is totally separate from my role with that organisation. SOS exists to represent its members, whilst Committee is there to represent all supporters within each respective constituency. I would not therefore be an SOS representative in any way on the committee.

Representing Supporters in the UK (outside of Merseyside): Aaron Cardoso
Born: 1980
Lives: Milton Keynes

Why I wanted to represent this group: My name is Aaron and I am a British Asian from Milton Keynes who is a massively passionate red. I attend home games as much as I can, usually 10-12 games a season, in what is usually a 6/7 hour round trip. I usually sit in the centenary stand after a pint in the Paisley Lounge. I am a keen poster on the blondepoker forum (Europe's largest poker forum and my former employer) and in the sports betting and discussion sub board I am an avid poster on the Liverpool FC thread which I started in the build up to Istanbul. Over the last 20 or so months the thread has been reborn as I've defended our club to the hilt with my passion and research on all things football and all things boardroom. From Rafa's net spend to Hodgson's tactics: http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=244.0. I have a degree in Business Economics and am currently employed as an account manager for Leaseplan. I'd like to represent the club as the non-Meyseyside representitive in the UK for a few reasons. In all honesty I thought about applying for the Ethnic Minority supporters role but I really believe in some of the things we need to change, or perhaps just tweak, in order to become truly global are based around the welcoming of a wider audience. I feel as though we need to move away from the inward looking mentality I've seen creep in since Hicks and Gillette. I remember the warmth of fans around me as I came to Anfield to watch Barnes in the nineties scarcely believing I'd travelled so far with my dad. Now I hear chants about cockney scum and I lurk on the forum and feel the anti London vibe has returned for the wrong reasons. Don't let me forget the good stuff. I know we have huge Scandinavian support at our home games for example. I know our bond with various European clubs is huge. What I'm talking about it more fundamental. We should never buy the s*n, and we should embrace all that is scouse as though a nation, but we should also take into account the global picture. By definition a large number of Liverpool fans will be in London (it's simple mathematics) and will come from the South. This is a huge part of our future. If we remain on the outside we risk the columnists' inches gravitating even more to the right of centre towards the London clubs, the FA moving more into he LMAs pocket, and Sky 'old school' commentators being given even more of a grip on the nations opinions. We need to be smart, we need to embrace some changes. Not to fight as outsiders but to educate as insiders. We are only now catching up with "brand Man Utd" and "franchise Real Madrid". What would we give for an Alan Hansen on Sky? Or another Phil Thompson? I believe I am in touch with what not only our Southern fans think/see/read but I'm also in the unique position of seeing what many other clubs fans think of us and how we're portrayed in the media. Until the MK Dons came to Milton Keynes it was simply the biggest mongrel mix of football supports you've ever seen. Finally I feel as though these very real and sometimes tough questions need to go to our new owners with respect but gravity. We're willing to break our backs for them if they just scratch ours occasionally. In fairness, they're making all the right noises so far. I feel as though we, as fans, have a lot to offer but we need to move into the contemporary digital age so that we aren't left behind. If we take FSG's new age thinking and philosophy to the fans in the right way we'll all be sailing in the right direction. I hope my script finds you well - my apologies if I have written more than 500 words!

Representing Season Ticket Holders: Robert Humphries
Born: 1957
Lives: Orrell Park, Liverpool

Why I wanted to represent this group: Dear Panel, why choose me? Well I can only think of addressing this as a form of cv for a job application. However firstly I would like to state that I welcome the creation of this 'supporters' committee'. Obviously time will tell if it is to be of any real use but surely, despite some negativity, any form of communication has got to be better than none! I am also encouraged that the club have attempted to use a wide strand of members for the 'selection panel' - especially Ian Callaghan, my all time favourite LFC player; John Bishop, a fantastic comedian; Sue Johnston, the great actress etc etc (does that work? Sorry, I jest). My 'cv' therefore will be made up of three areas - personal, work and of course LFC. Personal I have been married for just over thirty years and have three beautiful daughters, one of whom regularly attends matches with me whilst patiently waiting on the season ticket list for her name to come up! I am currently on the 'Consultative Committee' for Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and previously was a 'Consultative Committee' member for Liverpool Vision, a local regeneration body and have served as Chairperson of my local Orrell Park Residents' Association. Work I work as a maintenance fitter at Yorkshire Copper Tube in Kirkby and have done for over thirty years. I am currently the team leader of my engineering department and also the Senior Steward on the site for the Unite/Amicus trade union. I have represented our members at site, regional, national and international level on various bodies and fully understand the role of representation and appreciate the differences between consultation, communication and negotiation. It was following the Hilsborough disaster, and having three young daughters at the time, that spurred me on to become a fully qualified first aider at work (including defibrillation) trained by the North West Ambulance Service. This interest is H&S led me to achieving my Nebosh National Diploma and a graduate member of the professional body, the Institute of Safety and Health (IOSH). I have gained a lot of experience through my union links and have achieved qualifications in Employment Law, Economics and Equal Opportunities amongst many others. LFC I have been an LFC supporter since I was an egg and a season ticket holder for as long as I can remember. I am passionate about my club and have enjoyed some fantastic times following the reds. I have travelled, and still do, everywhere to watch my beloved team. I understand the difficulties in creating a fair system for ticket distribution and remember hoping my season ticket ended in the right digit to qualify for cup final tickets as opposed to the loyalty scheme presently used. I would be honoured, if chosen, to represent my fellow season ticket holders and play a small part in ensuring OUR club recognises the importance of all its supporters in order to make LFC great once again both on and off the field.

Representing Under 18s: Lewis Cubbin
Born: 1994
Lives: Norris Green, Liverpool

Why I wanted to represent this group: First of all, I'd just like to say that the implementation of a Supporters' Committee by Liverpool Football Club is a decision that I know will benefit our wonderful institution for many years to come. The relationship between LFC and those who pledge their eternal allegiance to it has been somewhat broken over the past few years, what with a hostile ownership between 2007 and 2010, that saw the attitudes and values of everybody associated (the Liverpool way) stretched as key figures went public about things that we should, quite frankly, not ever need to deal with. In bringing the ordinary supporter off the street and into discussion with the Club on essential issues, the trust levels of our recently instated board would rise at a constant rate, and we'd be able to achieve that stability that we have been craving for such a long time. I'm Lewis Cubbin, a sixteen year old from Norris Green in Liverpool. I attend West Derby Comprehensive School's sixth form and, as I type, am studying English, Government and Economics. As I entered the GCSE period of compulsory education, and it became known to me that English was by far my strongest subject, I deemed it logical to take what literary skills I had, and look to use them in my future occupations. That coupled in with an unhealthy obsession with sport (football in particular), and my aspirations of becoming a sportswriter had began. I unfortunately don't possess a season ticket, but do attend around 80% of the home matches in all competitions, as well as quite a few away games (usually against the other Northern sides in the division). I am a member of the Spirit of Shankly supporters' union, despite not committing to all of their views. I joined the union during the height of Tom Hicks & George Gillett's time at the club, and have remained there even after their corrupt regime can to its demise. When I'm not going to the match or studying, I have a blog dedicated to Liverpool FC. I also have a Twitter page, which allows me to converse with other supporters (as of this moment, I have 560 followers) and have gained some recognition from influential figures such as Paul Tomkins in my first six months. I believe that I would be a stable representative of supporters under the age of eighteen as I possess a balanced opinion, am a great believer in long term, strategic thinking and most of all, I'm an ordinary, local lad with a good idea of what the fanbase is thinking. I wouldn't apply if I didn't think I would be of great benefit to the cause. I would be flattered if you could take my application into consideration, as such an opportunity would be a superb stepping stone for somebody who wants to some day write and converse with others about the sport and team he loves, for a living.

Representing Over 60s: Dr Stephen Kelly
Born: 1946
Lives: Manchester

Why I wanted to represent this group: I first visited Anfield as a young boy in the late 1950s and quickly became a committed fan. Over the next two decades I watched Liverpool from the Kop, and supported them home, away and abroad. In the mid 1980s I became a season ticket holder in the Main Stand and have been there ever since. I am now almost 65 and semi-retired but my passion and commitment continues as ever. As the author of more than a dozen books about Liverpool Football Club, including the official history and biographies of Bill Shankly, Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness and Gerard Houllier, I feel that I have an extensive knowledge of Liverpool and its fans. In the 1980s as a journalist with Granada Television I was involved in the media coverage of the Heysel and Hillsborough disasters. Indeed I was present at Heysel and following the Hillsborough disaster I campaigned strongly over the coverage meted out to fans particularly by the Sun. During this period I became more actively involved in the club through my books. This involved close liaison with directors as well as club officials, such as Brian Hall, and the various managers I was writing about. This enabled me to gain an understanding of the way the club operates. I have also written oral histories of the Kop and the Bootroom and as a result feel that I have an understanding of the fans and their passion for the club. Over the years I have on occasions written to the club pointing out difficulties concerning safety within the stadium. Although most of my games today are viewed from the Main Stand, I always watch European games from the Kop and thereby have a knowledge of that particular area as well. I still attend as many away games as possible and therefore understand the problems fans face at away matches. My prime focus would be to address concerns facing older fans. These include accessibility to the stadium itself, stairways, toilet facilities, congestion and the difficulties of exiting certain areas. As a fan who now lives outside of Liverpool I am also acutely aware of the travel difficulties many face, particularly on journeys home. These can include parking, road works, accessibility, exiting the Anfield area and the need for eating facilities both inside and outside the stadium. I also am familiar with the ticketing issues that fans face, such as pricing, availability and the fair distribution of tickets for key cup games. If I was to be chosen for this role I would endeavour to set up a website so that fans could leave messages detailing concerns. I would also discuss the possibility of having access to one of the fans' major websites, or even the club's official website, so that fans could communicate their problems. I welcome the setting up of this committee as a positive step by the club and something that I have been urging for some time.

The remaining 12 fans who have been nominated to sit on the committee will be revealed shortly.

I already disagree with my rep a bit by him saying that most of the fans outside of Liverpool will come from London I have a feeling a lot of fans will come from the South West Area because there is no Premiership team to follow and of course Ireland but I maybe wrong.
