This result isn't a suprise, neither is the way the game panned out, i don't understand the shock that some people are offering. We have been in terminal decline for nearly 2 years, our best assets have been sold, we have lost half of the team that pushed for the title, we have had three managers within that period aswell.
The last 3 transfer windows haven't helped either, the buys have been poor, and have only made the situation worse.
We need to be patient now more than ever, some people layed all the blame on Roy Hodgsons doorstep, and incompetent though he was, he wasn't at fault for everything. We are seeing the evidence that the Hicks and Gillett era is catching up with us. Kenny may be the best player to ever wear the red shirt, but he can't work miracles with this squad.
Fenway have no choice but to wade in, and buy a few top quality players, there is no ideal situation here i'm afraid, there's no time for them to find their feet, they need to start making decisions. As i said, we need to be patient, two years of poor performance aren't going to be cut out with a couple of good signings. I have a feeling Fenway will leave their spending until the summer, which means Kenny will have to lift a squad that has underachieved under Benitez and Hodgson (last two years) it's not a position i envy.
I feel 75% of this squad needs to leave.
