Massimo Moratti in "lack of class" shocker!

We Wanted Leonardo Before Rafael Benitez - Inter President Massimo Moratti

Massimo Moratti wanted Leonardo in charge of Inter last summer, but the timing wasn't right...

03-Jan-2011 1:50:00 PM

Inter president Massimo Moratti has admitted that he considered Leonardo as a serious candidate to take over the Nerazzurri reigns as early as last June, following the departure of Jose Mourinho to Real Madrid.

"I thought about the candidacy of Leonardo back in June, but then there was no point talking to him about this because he wanted a break after working with Milan," Moratti explained to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

However, the president would eventually get his man following a public outburst from eventual choice Rafael Benitez, not to mention a poor run of form domestically.

"I saw him [Leonardo] as the best successor to Mourinho. He is quite a strong person to be able to withstand such pressure.

"When we chose Benitez, we thought his experience would help us to improve the situation, but not everyone can withstand such stress," Moratti was quoted as saying.

***

"Improve the situation"? They'd just won the fucking treble. And he couldn't "withstand such stress" after what he'd been through at the viper den that was LFC?

I wasn't a massive fan of Benitez the manager, but this little fucking gnome needs a lesson in how to speak with decency and honesty.

And claiming Rafa wasn't really his first choice and it's all right now Leonardo is in place is as transparent as it is disrespectful. I wonder what he'll say when the Brazialian elbower fails just like he did at his old club Milan?

Dejan Stankovic: I Can't Forgive Former Inter Boss Rafael Benitez
Stankovic believes Benitez made some wrong choices, including leaving him out of the Club World Cup final...
By Adam Scime
Jan 3, 2011 5:45:00 PM

Inter midfielder Dejan Stankovic has hit out at former coach Rafael Benitez in an interview with Sportski Zurnal.

The Serbian was left out of the Club World Cup final against TP Mazembe in the United Arab Emirates after playing a significant role in the 3-0 semi-final win over Seongnam Ilhwa.

"I still cannot forgive Benitez. I played great in the semi-finals, scoring a goal, and he left me out of the starting line-up," recalled the 32-year-old.

"With [Jose] Mourinho the same thing happened in the Champions League final, but you cannot compare the two situations. Before [the final in] Madrid I was injured and I had not played in Barcelona due to suspension. I was not in form, but in Abu Dhabi I was.

"Benitez's decision shocked not only me, but the whole team. Fortunately we won."

Despite winning the Club World Cup, Benitez was sacked and replaced with ex-Milan boss Leonardo over the holidays.

"Was Benitez sacked because of me? I don't know," laughed the former Lazio player.

Stankovic has been a fan favourite at San Siro since joining the Nerazzurri in 2004, but he is not certain he will retire with the Beneamata.

"We'll see. I have a contract until 2014 when I will be 36 years old. Perhaps it'll be the right time to retire as an Inter player," he mused.

"Like the national team you must leave room for young players, as they did with me recently. That's life, it's natural."

http://www.goal.com/en/news/10/italy/2011/01/03/2288325/dejan-stankovic-i-cant-forgive-former-inter-boss-rafael

Just shows you the envorionment Rafa had to work in, dealing with kids like this one, Morratti chose to appeal to the players rather than support the manager.

Hope they fail miserably and return to their prevoius mediocrty, joke of a club.

Inter are in for a huge shock, with the financial fair play rules coming in. They've got a squad filled with old players, players that lack hunger to win anything and are now facing injury problems and an owner who can't invest into the squad. Plus, they've got an inexperienced manager and one that was a previous Milan legend (something which will be used against him when he starts fucking up).

Good times ahead  :)

From a club that only won the league for the first time in years because of points deducted on other teams. They'd not have won a league if it wasn't for Gallipoli or whatever the corruption thing was called. Moratti is a cock.

Have you read swissramble's article on them? It makes for pretty grim reading. A lot of club's are going to struggle with the fair play rules, especially the Italian ones. The declining crowds, not as much TV money and both Milan clubs have old squads which will need completely rebuilding.
I think Germany could become the third biggest league. The likes of Bayern are pretty clued up on the commercial front and already exist with constraints well.

Classy bunch.

Still, some of our own will lap this up and use it as wank material.
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

juve i think make a reasonable profit every year so they should be ok under these rules, probably will leapfrog them to the top like calciopolli did with inter

Yeah Juve are in the strongest position, they regularly have money to spend each summer on players and with the new stadium will hopefully have increased ticket sale revenue.
If you look at the figures, AC Milan had a commercial revenue of €62m in 2009 compared with Borussia Dortmund with €60. Bayern had €130m from commercial and were by far the most. Inter's was only €44, a third of Bayern's. Inter's matchday was also only half of Bayern's but they eclipsed them in terms of tv revenue €115 for Inter to €60 for Bayern.

I wasn't really surprised reading Moratti's comments about Rafa once he'd left but after reading that Stankovic interview, I get the impression that Rafa must have failed to stroke most of the squad's egos that Jose helped build over the last 3 years.

Hahah stankovic what a waste of space, mourinho tried to sell the basterd off in his first year but stankovic didnt want to leave as mourinho said he wasnt good enough compared to his lazio days. I wonder how stankovic felt then or did he suck off jose like the rest of them. What a dick he would rather put himself first than the team and they won the world club cup championship why is he complaining.

If moratti thinks this squad can hold out for another season or two then he is in for a big shock. to be honest only etoo looked like he liked rafa anyway as he actually played to his strengths and got him in the form of his life. But i guess the likes of stankovic preferred the counter attacking shit they used the year before.

A deal for Stankovic was done with Juventus, but the Drughi said that no way would they support the signing of an Inter player.

The deal was cancelled.

Few seasons later he won the trouble with Inter lol.

very disappointing from stankovic
he played well when rafa was in charge and it was partly due to the system and tactics that was employed that suited his style of play
stankovic has a history of muscle injuries and with age catching up, he should have understood the reasons for being rested
