Well, you just leave some easy-slip-on slippers outside the bathroom. Sorted.

Also, if you have little kids using your bathroom expect urine to be hanging around inbetween trips from the cleaner  ;D

This thread is mad ;D

I've never really thought about it before its just common sense really, you walk in someones house and do what you want with your shoes unless you're specifically asked to take them off or they're dirty. Can only guess the girl reacted like she did because she had no socks on but had manky feet or toe nails or something. Mostly i'll leave me trainers on if its a short visit but take them off if i'm gunna be there for a while for the sake of comfort.

When I go visit someone i've got a look at their feet - if they're in socks and there's a shoe rack by the door, i take mine off,  but if they wear trainers or whatever i keep mine on. Don't find it comfy though, especially when you end up sitting on the sofa or on the floor. At home, i just go barefoot or in socks if its cold. I go out into the yard barefoot as well, and I couldn't care less about the germs. Don't think it's healthy to wear shoes all day.

It's a cultural difference though.

Found this....

What Germs Can Be Carried On Shoes?
The study, reported in April of 2008, found the following in large numbers:

How To Protect Home Flooring Against Shoe Germs
While the sponsors of the study hope to market washable shoes, other alternatives are as follows:

How are you finding the study now? Still, I've been removing the heads from all my visitors for years due to the fear of sneezing, It may be messy but I'll be healthy!

See for me the common sense is to ask first so as not to be told to take them off.

I'd be annoyed if someone just walked in my house without asking and had mud all over their shoes. The reasoning has nothing to do with germs, just the fact that the floor or carpet can get quite dirty.

So I asked her to leave (in a nice way)

Did you tell her to shoo?
She keeps getting texts off him saying "Oh please take me back, I love you and I'm still not over you". We read them together naked and then we laugh about it. Then she blows me off.

I don't let anyone bring their shoes "into the house." Shoes are removed as they enter the house and its either socks on or barefoot in the house or my office. I think its one of the most disgusting traits of being a westerner, bringing all that dirt from the streets into the home, bedroom and living room.

And we say 3rd world countries are dirty.

Your office as in your place of work? I have no idea what you do but that seems a little odd, asking potential clients or colleagues (assuming you don't work from home) to remove their footwear?!

Its not odd. Once people understand why, they do it willingly. Its people who are asked to do so but are not told why who generally act like they have  been shot in the gut.

I have a little office at home but it's at the back and I don't allow anyone in with their shoes on.

You should have worn your shiny cowboy boots and spinning heel kicked the bitch.  That would have taught her.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

couple of things... most have been mentioned, but anywayzz..

I've only encountered this 3 times in my life, the most recent occurrence was 2 weeks ago..
I was asked to take my shoes off at my mates new appartment, so i did as that was the norm there apparently,
so i moped around on the carpet and kitchen lino, my feet freezin while they all had nice snug slippers.. Didn't feel overly happy about it all to be fair.
If and when I go there again, i know now to bring slippers with me.. funny thing is, they have organised a bangin techno party for NYE, so If this goes down with people pissed and pillin, then the shoes issue will be the least of their worries. Actually, it would be rather funny to see a bangin techno slippers n socks party ;)

I was in France about 4 years ago and they had a tradition of doing the same thing, but in the doorway there were about 10 pairs of slippers.
So everyone got a pair of slippers to wear, no complaints, everyone happy..

Thing is though, the germ thing is totally stupid, as has been said in here Kids and adults need germs to build up the immune system, if we all live in protective little havens we would all be sick much more often. The argument that wearing socks instead os shoes would carry less germs around is a little, emmm, how do you say it best... misinformed.. silly... insane?
I know a few lads that I would pay my weeks wages to so that they keep their bloody shoes on, fear of stinkin the place out gotta be on your mind from time to time surely.. Not everyone has odourless feet, and not every girl likes their feet, i often hear its the part of their body they hate the look of. So i can understand that girl not wanting to take them off... but ofcourse, she should have said it nicely, rather than abruptly. But again, this depends on the culture too.. I know over here we apologise if someone walks into us, never mind the other way around, i guess we are overly courteous and so forth, but i dont have a clue of how people behave in Sweden.

Agree with you, conman. The germ thing isn't and should't really be an issue. It's the trampling of dirty shoes over the carpet that I don't like. The reason I have an opinion on this is because I've got a couple of friends who come round and never take their shoes off. When they leave I have to walk around the house an pick up bits of mud and clean the carpet where they've walked. It's fucking annoying.

Generally I don't ask people to take their shoes off, most people I know just do it out of habit too.

I can understand someone with a mental condition wanting people to take shoes off - or overly fussy people. When I was young I was obsessed with Germs, but luckily realised I was being a complete wanker and grew out of it. As people have said to those saying they want a 'clean house' for their kids - the reason a lot of kids are fucked today is because they haven't had a chance to develop immunities from infections and germs and bacteria and viruses because the world they live in is too sterile. You don't want your kids getting ill all the time and that's what will happen to them in later life - if they haven't had a chance to build their immune system they'll have health issues for life.

As to the 'people walking dogshit into your house' idea - why not check that the shoes are clean? If they are - fine come in. If they are covered in five pounds of dog shit - then I can accept taking them off might be a good move.

Nope

So you wouldn't mind if I came to your house without taking my shoes off after a pub crawl, then walking in the rain stepping on dog shit every other step.  Then getting comfortable on your white couch.
